U.N. in Crisis as UNICEF Joins W.H.O. to Face Endemic Sex Abuse Claims
UNICEF on Wednesday became the third U.N. agency in less than 48-hours to begin an internal inquiry into allegations of sexual abuse of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as claims of rape by U.N. workers threaten to engulf the globalist organization.
The children’s fund said it was “appalled that people who identify as UNICEF workers have reportedly committed abuse against vulnerable women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”
It added that once the internal inquiry is complete, “There will be serious consequences for any staff who have been found to have sexually abused people.
Earlier Wednesday the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said it too was investigating allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation by one of its staff during the DRC’s Ebola crisis, while the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) made a similar announcement Tuesday.
As Breitbart News reported, W.H.O. has been accused by at least 50 women of a series of sexual attacks in a joint investigation by two news agencies.
Local women were allegedly plied with drinks, “ambushed” in hospitals, forced to have group sex with aid workers, and two became pregnant. Jobs in return for repeated sexual favors has also been alleged against both men and women.
The allegations cover the period between 2018 and March this year.
“The actions allegedly perpetrated by individuals identifying themselves as working for W.H.O. are unacceptable and will be robustly investigated,” the organization said in a statement.
The Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu has initiated a review of the specific allegations, as well as broader protection issues in health emergency response settings.
For its part, UNICEF said that it “encourage(s) all victims to come forward”, adding that it has “strengthened our efforts to prevent, and respond to, sexual exploitation and abuse” in the past two years and has now sent extra staff to DRC to investigate the latest allegations.
“Such abuses by U.N. personnel and other humanitarian workers are an outrageous breach of trust with those we are mandated to support, often in very trying humanitarian circumstances,” the IOM said earlier Wednesday.
Allegations of sexual misconduct have arisen in all peace operations deployed by the U.N. for the past 20 years at least.

Jewish Democrats’ Ad Compares Trump’s America to Nazi Germany
An ad by the Jewish Democratic Council of America comparing President Trump’s America to 1930s Nazi Germany has sparked outrage — and support — from antisemitism watchdog czars.
The split-screen 30-second ad released Tuesday features side-by-side footage and images of Nazi Germany rallies in the 1930s and Trump rallies, including neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, as well as images from the 2018 Pittsburgh synagogue attack in which 11 Jews were killed. A defaced, present-day synagogue features alongside photos of graffitied Jewish shops in the ’30s.
Entitled “Hate doesn’t stop itself, it must be stopped,” the ad blames Trump for the rise of far-right antisemitism.
A somber narrator opens the clip by saying, “History shows us what happens when leaders use hatred and nationalism to divide their people.”
“As antisemitism and white nationalism rise to dangerous levels in America, we are all less secure. It’s time to show that we’ve learned from the darkest moments in history. Hate doesn’t stop itself. It must be stopped. Vote — our future depends on it,” the narrator continues.
The ad intends to target Jewish voters in swing states including Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania, according to the JDCA.
It comes days after Joe Biden said Trump is “sort of like Goebbels,” comparing the American president to the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
The Anti-Defamation League, which routinely condemns Trump over allegations of stoking antisemitism, issued a sharp rebuke of the ad.
“This has no place in the presidential race and is deeply offensive to the memories of 6M+ Jews systematically exterminated during the Shoah,” tweeted ADL head Jonathan Greenblatt, using the Hebrew word for the Holocaust. “[T]he hate [and] extremism in this race is alarming and should be repudiated unambiguously. Elected leaders who engage in lying, scapegoating, and routinely call for violence should be condemned, full stop. At the same time, we urge leaders & their surrogates to refrain from invoking the #Holocaust in the context of the current election. It is not the same. Stay focused on the issues.”

However, Greenblatt’s predecessor, Holocaust survivor Abraham Foxman, said the comparisons were valid.
“Germany did have institutions and they did have democracy and it did fall apart so, yeah, it’s not Germany, and it’s not Nazism, but our antennas are quivering,” Foxman told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
“There is serious hate out there which is reminiscent of the hate that we lived through, part of our history,” he said. “Jewish antennas quiver — it doesn’t have to be Nazism to worry us that hate is out there, and hate is not being challenged.”
The American Jewish Committee and Simon Wiesenthal Center called for the removal of the ad.

Ariana Grande Concert Bomber Associated With Known Extremists, Was on Security Services Radar 18 Times
Salman Abedi, the jihadist who killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, United Kingdom in 2017 repeatedly came to the attention of the security services but officers failed to connect the dots, leaving him free to murder.
The Libyan-origin 22-year-old detonated a rucksack full of improvised explosives at the Manchester Arena on May 22nd 2017, killing 22 at an Ariana Grande concert. Most of the victims were child fans of the pop star, and their parents who had chaperoned them.
The ongoing inquest into the attack has revealed multiple failings of the security services, not least the fact that Abedi was reported to police and security guards several times on the night of the attack for acting suspiciously, but also it has now been revealed in the years running up to the bombing.
Abedi had been flagged by the United Kingdom’s MI5 domestic intelligence agency 18 times over seven years, The Times reports, and was known to have relationships with six other people being monitored by MI5. Yet despite the wealth of evidence, when viewed in isolation each case was dismissed as being not sufficiently suspicious.

Among the reasons for being flagged were plans to travel to Syria, his contact details being found on the phone of an arrested extremist, and twice visiting convicted terrorists in prison. The newspaper reported that two instances of the intelligence services receiving intelligence about Abedi in the run up to the attack were dismissed as being “possibly innocent activity”, despite actually being related to the planning of the bombing.
In one case, Abedi was actually made a subject of interest by the intelligence services but was taken off the list months later.
The inquiry is expected to last at least until early 2021.
Hashem Abedi, Salman’s brother, was sentenced to to a minimum of 55 years in prison in August for his part in the attack. He was found guilty for 22 counts of murder for sourcing chemicals and parts for the bomb.
In a cruel twist of fate, both brothers had been rescued from Libya in 2014 by the Royal Navy, which was tasked by the government to evacuate British passport holders from the country during the civil war following the 2011 anti-Colonel Gaddafi coup.

Contracts Awarded for 40 Miles of New Walls on Texas Border
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials awarded a pair of contracts to build new border barriers in previously unsecured sections of the Laredo Sector in South Texas. The nearly half-million-dollar contracts will add 40 miles of border wall systems where none previously existed. The Laredo Sector has approximately 110 miles of border along the Rio Grande.
Officials report the border wall system is composed of 30-foot tall bollard wall sections, all-weather access roads, lighting, enforcement cameras, and other technology. Combined the border wall system provides an effective “enforcement zone” to combat the illegal crossing by Mexican cartels of drug and human cargo, according to information obtained from CBP officials.
The first contract ($283,150,000) is awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel Co. The company will build 27 miles of new border wall systems. The contracted is funded from Fiscal Year 2020 appropriations, officials reported.
The second contract, awarded to Southwest Valley Constructors Co., provides an additional $201,250,000 in funding to build 13 more miles of border wall systems, the report continues. This contract is also funded from FY20 appropriations.
Officials did not disclose where in the Laredo Sector the 40 miles of new border wall systems will be constructed.
“The Laredo Sector is an area of high illegal activity, with over 43,000 illegal entry encounters and over 39,000 pounds of drugs seized FY 2020 through the end of August,” CBP officials said in a written statement. “The majority of its activity is occurring in areas where Laredo Sector lacks infrastructure, access and mobility, and technology. These projects will improve Laredo Sector’s ability to impede and deny illegal border crossings and the drug and human smuggling activities of transnational criminal organizations.”
Earlier this year, CBP officials announced construction would begin in January 2021 on a 14-mile long section of new border wall systems, Breitbart Texas reported.
Caddell Construction Company, (DE) LLC received the $275 million award to build the new border wall system. Officials sad the funding comes from FY 2020 appropriations approved by Congress.

UN Insists Record Boat Migrant Numbers ‘Not a Threat’ to Britain
Record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing the English Channel are “not a threat” to Britain, and could even be a boon for taxpayers, the United Nations (UN) has claimed.
Speaking to the Commons Home Affairs Committee on Wednesday, representatives from the international body argued that Britain should open new channels that would allow many more low and no-skilled third world migrants to enter the country legally in order to deter individuals from paying people traffickers.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) representative in the UK, Rossella Pagliuchi-Lor, told MPs that the thousands of people who have broken into Britain in recent months were not a problem.
Instead, she insisted that the only “dangers” of the situation were risks to the lives of migrants travelling across the Channel in dinghies, along with “a different sort of risk”, which she said was critical media reporting of the phenomenon.
Taking aim at “the sort of narrative that we’re seeing in the media and elsewhere that suggests these arrivals by boat present… a danger, a threat to the UK, when in fact [illegal immigrants are taking] simply a different route,” the UN official insisted that third world migrants are “not a threat”.
“The people that you will find on the boats are pretty much the same you would have found otherwise on the back of a lorry. There is no real difference — the main risk is to themselves with regards to the danger of the crossing itself”.

She also dismissed the idea that boats could be turned back to France, stressing that attempts to do this could put migrants’ lives at risk in the water and therefore should not be an option for Britain.
The UN’s evidence to the select committee came as the total number of migrants officially recorded as having made it to British shores by boat this year had reached close to 7,000 — more than triple the figure recorded in 2019.
Pagliuchi-Lor and Vincent Cochetel, the UNHCR’s special envoy for illegal immigration to Europe via the Mediterranean route, said Britain was a popular destination for migrants due to its reputation as a “champion in terms of multiculturalism”, and called for the government to create “safe, legal routes” for migration.
Currently, family reunification rules in the UK are “quite restrictive”, Pagliuchi-Lor complained, explaining that the government limits claims to members of the nuclear family, such as parents and children.
The UN “has been advocating for a somewhat broader definition of family”, she said, before alleging that a huge expansion of chain migration would “not be a massive burden” on Britain and its welfare system and public services.
Other ways Britain could reduce the number of people migrating illegally would be to open up legal pathways for unqualified, low-wage labourers from the third world to resettle in Britain, as well as with an expansion in “study visas”, the UNHCR representative said.

Despite Comey defending himself and his team with his “by the book” claims, the former FBI Director admitted to the Senate Committee that there were mistakes made.
NPR reports that Comey told lawmakers that if he knew then what he knows now, he would have taken “a more skeptical view” on one of the key surveillance requests that targeted a junior campaign aide of President Trump’s back in 2016.
Lindsey Graham, the chair of the panel, said that “somebody needs to go to jail or get fired,” over the FBI’s handling of the Carter Page warrant application process, one of the key sticking points of the inquiry.

Thanks to Russian forces, the Islamic State in Syria has been defeated, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, who claimed that more than 133,000 terrorists have been killed in the country over the past five years.
Shoigu was writing in the Russian army newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda, on the 5th anniversary of Moscow’s military operation in the Levant. The minister believes that Russia helped preserve Syrian statehood, prevent the spread of terrorism to other countries, and ultimately defeated the Islamic State (formerly ISIS) in Syria.
“When discussing Syria, sometimes the question arises: did Russia do the right thing by taking on this difficult task?” Shoigu wrote. “But, every time, we can prove that the mission in Syria was not only the correct decision, but the only possible one.”
According to the minister, the Syrian Arab Armed Forces have liberated 1,024 cities with the aid of Russian air support, meaning that 88 percent of the country’s territory is now under the control of the government. He also noted that more than 133,000 militants were killed, including 4,500 from Russia and other allied Commonwealth of Independent States countries.
“The task set five years ago by the supreme commander-in-chief [President Vladimir Putin] has been fully completed. The international terrorist organization Islamic State has ceased to exist in Syria, and not a single terrorist entered Russia,” the minister wrote.
The Russian operation began on September 30, 2015, after Syrian President Bashar Assad requested military aid from the Kremlin, in a legal move. The international reaction to Russia’s intervention has been mixed, with countries close to the US, which illegally attacked Damascus, denouncing Moscow’s role and ultimately imposing sanctions.

One plug made by Hictkon is so dangerous that it 'should not be sold' due to the fire risk it presents to people in the home, according to Which?.
Online retailers should take more responsibility for the safety and security of the products sold on their sites even if the seller is a third-party, Which? says, adding that government intervention is needed.

Media Narratives, whether delivered through TV or social media, are crafted to influence the publics opinion. We’ve watched them turn out divisive and tribal headlines in order to keep us angry, pointing the blame at each other so we clearly see how corrupt both sides are. More often than not they come off overtly hypocritical in their presentation. They should be better at this by now, but instead it seems like each side is intentionally flaunting their hypocrisy, while rallying behind their wildly unpopular candidate. At this point they have to know their viewers can see their obvious gaslighting, and the ones who really care are becoming fed up that their voices are being ignored.
Pay attention to the narrative of the day, and ask yourself why are they presenting it this way. Tonights narrative, “the debate was an embarrasment” CNN and MSNBC, in a bizarre move, criticized both candidates with their anchors saying things like “it was a shit show” and “a hot mess, inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck.”
On top of that we’ve seen wealthy elites exposed doing some of the most unthinkable things, brought into the mainstream, then snuffed before justice could be served. They essentially performed a hit openly, and basically didn’t even try to deny it, instead moving along to the next bit of rage-porn.
Meanwhile, while that narrative is being spread, we’ve seen social media tempt us with riot footage. We’ve seen an increase in interest in these street factions battling eachother. Both sides have been accused of funding/influencing them, and neither side has condemned their sides faction. We’ve seen memes shared by influencers pretty much encouraging revolution, to the point where the movements seem corporately sponsored. We’ve seen endless finger pointing about cheating, accusations of election fraud, shameless pandering with blatant disregard for public opinion. This all seems intentional.
It feels like a honey pot, like they are leading us into a trap for a reason I can’t quite nail down. Do they want unrest so they can justify passing more authoritarian surveillance/policing laws? Do they want to lead us into restructuring how our government and economic systems function? Is this coming from foreign interference in an attempt to destabilize us? Is this about conditioning us towards the Agenda 2030 globalist vision? Whatever it is, it seems like they are taunting us, even encouraging us.

California environmental professor argues ‘white supremacy’ is the cause of wildfires and hurricanes
An environmental professor at Santa Clarita University in California recently blamed the global “climate crisis” — which he says has resulted in raging wildfires on the West Coast and hurricanes on the East Coast — on none other than “white supremacy.”
Ted Grudin, who earned his Ph.D. in environmental science from the University of California-Berkeley, wrote an op-ed in the Earth Island Journal last week titled, “How White Supremacy Caused the Climate Crisis.”
In the op-ed, Grudin asserted that “embedded in the theory of racial supremacy is the theory of human supremacy over nature, which has brought environmental calamity upon us.”
As Grudin sees it, white supremacy thrives on the “accumulation of wealth and power” of a select few, namely Caucasians, and the “oppression and destruction” of everyone and everything else. White people, he argued, have historically believed that dominance and control are their “natural rights” and have thus sought to “colonize peoples and lands.”

COVID-19 'Phase 3' Vaccine Trial Participants Report Day-Long Migraines, Fever
European press reports earlier indicated that the EU's pharma regulator is preparing to expedite approval of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, even as the FDA expands its investigation into the COVID-19 vaccine's Phase 3 trials (after a patient was reportedly seriously sickened in the UK, though AZ insists that illness had nothing to do with the trial).
As the WHO, Bill Gates, Dr. Fauci and the global health-care establishment work with their allies in the press to try and convince as many people as possible to agree to take a COVID-19 vaccine once one is approved, more alarming reports are emerging in the mainstream press about issues with the 'Phase 3' trials.
CNBC reported Thursday morning that several patients involved in trials involving Moderna's vaccine candidate and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine candidate have experienced serious side effects, including "shaking so hard he cracked a tooth after taking the second dose."
As bad as they were, the symptoms typically dissipated within a day or two, and four out of the five subjects interviewed by CNBC said they felt the struggle was "worth it" to gain protection from COVID-19. Then again, the symptoms certaintly sound serious.
Luke Hutchison woke up in the middle of the night with chills and a fever after taking the Covid-19 booster shot in Moderna’s vaccine trial. Another coronavirus vaccine trial participant, testing Pfizer’s candidate, similarly woke up with chills, shaking so hard he cracked a tooth after taking the second dose.
High fever, body aches, bad headaches and exhaustion are just some of the symptoms five participants in two of the leading coronavirus vaccine trials say they felt after receiving the shots.
In interviews, all five participants - three in Moderna’s study and two in Pfizer’s late-stage trials - said they think the discomfort is worth it to protect themselves against the coronavirus. Four of them asked not to be identified, but CNBC reviewed documentation that verified their participation in the trials.
While the symptoms were uncomfortable, and at times intense, they often went away after a day, sometimes sooner, according to three participants in the Moderna trial and one in Pfizer’s as well as a person close to another participant in Moderna’s trial.
At least 41 vaccine candidates are in human trials worldwide, but only four US-backed candidates are in Phase 3: Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson. At least one UK-backed vaccine is also entering Phase 3. While it’s possible some of the symptoms described could have been caused by an unrelated illness, Moderna and Pfizer previously said some participants in their phase one trials experienced mild symptoms. Pfizer emphasized that complications like this were only seen in a small number of cases.

Israel Is Sending Weapons to Azerbaijan as Fight With Armenia Continues
Azeri cargo planes having been frequently flying to Israel for weapons
Israeli arms are fueling Azerbaijan’s fighting with Armenia in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, told Israeli media that the Azeri military has been using Israeli-made attack drones in the recent violence.
Israel and Azerbaijan are major trading partners. The two countries have signed defense agreements together, and it is believed that Israel provides the Azeri military with 60 percent of its weapons. Israel also gets a large amount of its oil and natural gas from Azerbaijan. Azeri cargo planes have been recently spotted at an air force base in southern Israel.
Azeri cargo planes landing at this base is a relatively common occurrence, but the timing and frequency of recent flights indicate Israeli arms are fueling the conflict. According to Haaretz, two Azeri Ilyushin Il-76 freighters landed at the base last Thursday, just days before the fighting broke out. Two more freighters arrived on Tuesday and Wednesday, which means Azeri forces could be replenishing their weapons.
Hajiyev said that the Azeris “very much appreciate the cooperation with Israel, especially the defense cooperation.” So far, Israel has remained silent on the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh. When asked if this silence bothered the Azeris, Hajiyev said, “No, no, Israel and Azerbaijan understand our situation” and cited multiple agreements between the two countries.
The fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh continued for a fourth day on Wednesday and shows no sign of slowing down. Turkey has been accused of intervening in the battle on behalf of the Azeris, with Armenia claiming Ankara is using F-16s to shoot down Armenian fighter jets. Turkey denies the charge. Reports say Ankara has been helping its ally in another way, by sending mercenaries from northern Syria to the region to support Azerbaijan.

US Army receives 1st of 2 Iron Dome batteries, unlikely to buy more
After Israel refused to hand over underlying source code for the powerful air defense system, American military put plans to acquire further units on hold
The United States received its first of two Iron Dome batteries from Israel on Wednesday just over a year after signing a purchase agreement, the Defense Ministry said, though the American military will likely not buy additional systems going forward.
“These batteries will be employed in the defense of US troops against a variety of ballistic and aerial threats,” the ministry said.
The US and Israel signed an agreement for the purchase of the two batteries — each of which include a launcher and missiles made by Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd., a radar array made by the ELTA defense contractor, and a command-and-control center developed by the mPrest firm — last August, with initial plans to buy both two more units and to consider deeper integration of the Israeli air defense system.
In March, however, the US Army indicated it was scrapping — or at least freezing — its purchase of the two additional batteries and the further incorporation of the Iron Dome into its aerial defenses.
Though the deal appears to have stalled, Rafael continues to meet with US officials about the matter, a spokesman for the company said Wednesday, stressing that no final decision had been made on the deal.

Amazon Announces Mail Surveillance And Palm Scanner For Point Of Sale
Amazon has announced a new product for its Ring subsidiary company, a mail surveillance system. They also went a step beyond and released a new palm scanner point-of-sale system.
Amazon announced its rollout of Amazon One devices that use a customer’s palm prints for identification and payment at physical retail stores. The devices are presently available for use in Seattle locations for Amazon Go stores, and the company wants to expand it to any retailer willing to partner with the mega-giant.
According to an announcement by Dilip Kumar, the vice president of Amazon’s physical retail business, the Amazon One device creates even less payment friction in the company’s cashier-less retail stores. Instead of being identified by an account on their mobile phones, customers can simply walk into the store, scan their palm, shop for products, and the purchases will be automatically charged to a credit card.
A spokesperson for Amazon told Recode it has “no plans to use transaction information from third party locations for Amazon advertising or other purposes.”
However, Amazon says it wants to use the tech to spread to third-party partners, and payments aren’t the only function it has in mind for the system. Other use-cases discussed include a customer entering a location like a stadium, badging into work, and loyalty cards. It brings to mind a dystopian view of society.
If the Amazon One hand scanner wasn’t enough, Amazon Ring just announced that it will be releasing a new in-home drone and mail monitoring system using a sensor. Activist Post reported last week on the in-home drone, noting how the autonomous drone “Always Home Cam” zooms around inside your home to give you a perspective of any room you want when you’re not home. The drone can also be commanded to fly on-demand or programmed to fly when a disturbance is detected by its linked Ring Alarm system. Once it’s done flying, the Always Home Cam returns to its dock to charge its battery like a good robot.
The latter mail system is equally as privacy-invasive as a camera that flies around your home. The $30 Mailbox Sensor is similar to the Ring Motion Sensor accessory for Ring lighting products. The new Mailbox Sensor is a little sensor that relies on Amazon’s Sidewalk technology to extend the range of your Wi-Fi network, reports CNET.
The Ring Mailbox Sensor is designed to send an alert to your phone when the door is opened; and it’s supposed to work with other Ring products, such as using Ring doorbells and outdoor cameras to record footage when the mailbox is opened. This means that the cameras will trigger to record the mailbox when the sensor is tripped.
Ring is really fulfilling its goal of becoming a blanket surveillance system.

US to Keep Buying F-35 Parts From Turkey, Despite Purchase Ban
The U.S. will continue to buy parts for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter from Turkey through 2022, despite Ankara's purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system billed as an "F-35 killer" by Moscow, the Pentagon's top acquisitions official said Thursday.
The Trump administration in July 2019 banned Turkey from participation in the multinational F-35 program. But the Defense Department had to continue buying Turkish-made parts to maintain production, said Ellen Lord, DoD's Under Secretary for Acquisition and Sustainment.
Turkish factories currently make more than 900 parts for the F-35's center fuselage, cockpit display systems and other components, Lord said, adding that a complete cutoff in December as initially planned would result in about $1 billion in replacement costs that would slow down production of the aircraft.
"So we made a decision on a number of parts that it was smarter in terms of taxpayer dollars and warfighter readiness to let those contracts play out in Turkey so that we wouldn't have these huge termination liability costs," Lord told the Senate Armed Services subcommittee on readiness and management support. "So we have a few of the [Turkish-made] products that will go until 2022."
However, "we are well on our way" in eliminating Turkey completely from the F-35 program, "and the bulk of the parts will be out by the end of year," she said.
Over vehement objections from DoD, NATO ally Turkey began taking deliveries of the S-400 Triumf advanced air defense system from Russia in early July 2019, at an estimated cost of $2.5 billion.
Later that month, the White House announced that Turkey was being formally removed from participation in the F-35 program.
"Unfortunately, Turkey's decision to purchase Russian S-400 air defence systems renders its continued involvement with the F-35 impossible," then-White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said at the time. "The F-35 cannot coexist with a Russian intelligence collection platform that will be used to learn about its advanced capabilities."
Turkish pilots were also banned from continuing their training on the F-35. The country had planned to buy about 100 of the jets.

Vatican Criticizes Pompeo’s Handling of China Issues
Pope denies an audience with Pompeo, citing US election season
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is currently touring Europe. Not surprisingly, the trip has turned into a crusade against Beijing, and some foreign officials are not happy with Pompeo’s attempts at diplomacy.
On Wednesday, the Vatican announced it had denied a request from Pompeo to meet with Pope Francis. The official reason was that the pope does not meet with political figures during election seasons, but the Vatican’s diplomats also criticized Pompeo for remarks he made about the Catholic Church’s relationship with China.
Pompeo’s issue with the Vatican is with a deal the Church made in 2018 with China over the appointment of bishops. Before the agreement was reached, the Chinese government appointed bishops inside China sometimes without the pope’s approval. This caused a split between Chinese Catholics who were more loyal to the Vatican and those more faithful to the state-appointed Catholic leaders.
The agreement’s details are not public, but the pope says it gives the Vatican a say in the appointment of bishops in China. The deal is set to expire in October, and the Vatican is engaging with China in negotiations to extend it. The Catholic Church’s dealings with Beijing has drawn the ire of Pompeo.
Writing in the conservative journal First Things, in an article published on September 18th, Pompeo slammed the Vatican’s negotiations with China. Pompeo reiterated his point of view in a tweet on September 19th.
“Two years ago, the Holy See reached an agreement with the Chinese Communist Party, hoping to help China’s Catholics. Yet the CCP’s abuse of the faithful has only gotten worse. The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal,” Pompeo said.
The Vatican’s Foreign Minister Archbishop Paul Gallagher expressed his views on Pompeo’s criticisms of the Church in comments to reporters. “Normally when you’re preparing these visits between high-level officials, you negotiate the agenda for what you are going to talk about privately, confidentially. It’s one of the rules of diplomacy,” Gallagher said.

Protesters storm Beirut bank, demand return of savings
Protesters stormed a bank in the Downtown district of Beirut yesterday and staged a sit-in, demanding the institution return their savings which have been trapped since late last year, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported.
Hundreds of thousands of bank account holders have been unable to access their entire savings since November, when the country’s financial institutions imposed informal restrictions, limiting withdrawals to meagre weekly sums.
Banks unofficially introduced the restrictions to prevent capital flight and protect foreign currency reserves after anti-government protests broke out in October, amid a worsening economic and financial crisis.
In the months since, banks have frequently been targeted by protesters as a symbol of the crisis-ridden country’s problems.
In April, several bank branches across the country were torched or attacked with Molotov cocktails as anger at the financial institutions bubbled over.
Yesterday’s demonstration targeted the general headquarters of Bank Audi, according to a report by Al Arabiya, with protesters reportedly telling local television channel MTV, they were customers of the bank.
The unidentified protester told MTV the group had “come here to deliver a message to managerial boards of all banks”, but that demonstrators had not forced their way into the bank’s offices.
“Bank Audi is not the target [itself]”, the protester added. “Rather, we are addressing the whole corrupt banking system [in Lebanon] that hasn’t responded to enquiries of clients and depositors or explained to them the fate of their deposits and savings since February 2020”.
He later said protesters could no longer wait for the banks to respond to their queries but had to take action.

Biden opens up 13-point lead over Trump in new national poll
Joe Biden has opened up a 13-point lead over President Trump in the wake of the first presidential debate,according to a new CNBC/Change Research survey released on Thursday.
The poll shows Biden garnering 54 percent of the vote to Trump’s 41 percent, with 53 percent of likely voters surveyed saying that the Democratic nominee performed better than Trump in the debate on Tuesday night, while only 29 percent said the president had the better performance.
That debate quickly devolved into a raucous and chaotic event defined by frequent interruptions and hectoring by Trump, who has since sought to declare victory in the showdown.
But the CNBC/Change Research poll found that 45 percent of likely voters believe that Trump underperformed expectations at the debate, while only 11 percent said that Biden performed worse than expected.
The poll also underscores the dismal public perceptions of the debate. More than three quarters of respondents — 77 percent — said it did not make them feel proud to be an American.

Putin, Macron, Trump call for talks on Nagorno-Karabakh without preconditions
The presidents urged an immediate cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh
MOSCOW, October 1. /TASS/. Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Donald Trump of the United States and Emmanuel Macron of France in a joint statement have called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict without preconditions.
"We also call on the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to commit without delay to resuming substantive negotiations, in good faith and without preconditions, under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs," the statement reads.
The presidents urged an immediate cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. "We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities between the relevant military forces."
They also expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in their joint statement. "We mourn the victims and express our condolences to the families of those killed and wounded," the presidents said, according to the Public Radio of Armenia.
Renewed clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, with intense battles raging in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The area experienced flare-ups of violence in the summer of 2014, in April 2016 and this past July. Azerbaijan and Armenia have imposed martial law and launched mobilization efforts. Both parties to the conflict have reported casualties, among them civilians.
The conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed territory that had been part of Azerbaijan before the Soviet Union break-up, but primarily populated by ethnic Armenians, broke out in February 1988 after the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1992-1994, tensions boiled over and exploded into large-scale military action for control over the enclave and seven adjacent territories after Azerbaijan lost control of them. Talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement have been ongoing since 1992 under the OSCE Minsk Group, led by its three co-chairs - Russia, France and the United States.

Hundreds of small, local anti-Netanyahu protests nationwide ahead of new limits
Rallies organized in locations throughout Israel so that protesters can stay within a kilometer of their homes
Hundreds of protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were taking place throughout Israel Thursday evening in adherence to new legislation aimed at limiting demonstrations during the coronavirus lockdown.
In a statement announcing the protests earlier in the day, the Black Flag movement said that protesters would stand within a kilometer of their homes, wear masks and maintain social distancing protocols.
A map publicized by the organization, which announced its withdrawal from the large weekly protests at the start of the lockdown, appeared to show hundreds of locations around the country for the so-called “neighborhood protests” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, including gatherings outside the homes of ministers and coalition members.
The organization said the local events would be repeated on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, the Crime Minister organization announced the start of a march to the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem from the northern town of Kiryat Tivon, although it was unclear how this would continue with the new regulations in place.
The announcements came after the government approved new emergency regulations banning Israelis from traveling over one kilometer (0.6 miles) from their homes to attend a protest, and limiting outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 20 people per group.
The law effectively stifles the large weekly demonstrations at Netanyahu’s official residence in Jerusalem and is slated to enter into effect on Thursday.
The new regulations were approved as part of legislation passed by the Knesset early Wednesday morning. Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit later informed the government that the legislation was not valid until appropriate changes were made to relevant regulations.

NJ Homeland Security Assessment Warns Violent Unrest Could Follow 2020 Election
A new threat assessment by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness warns that extremists from both sides of the political spectrum could engage in violence and civil unrest well into 2021 as a result of the upcoming presidential election.
In the lead up to the 2020 presidential election, potential civil unrest and worse has been predicted by multiple governmental agencies and assorted federal outfits, including the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. Last week the organization published a “supplemental threat assessment” on the upcoming electoral contest subtitled “The Convergence of COVID-19, Nationwide Civil Unrest, and the Upcoming Presidential Election.”
Using COVID-19 as a backdrop, the 13-page report identifies the pandemic as the “driving factor” behind “public health fears, economic instability, political dissent, and cultural turmoil,” that will persist until 2021.
It is the first publically-released evaluation of concerns federal law enforcement officials are said to be harboring over the election and comes on the heels of a recently leaked memo from DHS, which echoed many of the same narratives developed in the document issued by DHS’ satellite regional New Jersey office, including the leading role of White Supremacist groups.
In August, the FBI distributed a bulletin to police departments across the country warning about domestic extremists “across the ideological spectrum,” who were likely to “continue to plot against government and election-related targets to express their diverse grievances involving government policies and actions.” More significantly, the Bureau’s missive directed police to prepare “to act prior to a possible democratic presidential administration,” due to fears that “stricter firearm regulations would be enacted quickly thereafter.”
