Anti-Defamation League Circulates Petition Urging Jews to Denounce Trump

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is circulating a petition among Jewish organizations urging them to criticize President Donald Trump for failing to denounce white supremacy during the first presidential debate on Tuesday — though he did so then, and has done so, often, before.

The petition, which was leaked to Breitbart News, states (original emphasis, links removed):

In Tuesday’s Presidential debate, when asked a simple question about condemning white supremacists, the President could not simply disavow these groups. After their mention, the Proud Boys could barely contain their excitement. This is extremely dangerous.

We are gathering support for the Jewish communal statement below in which we urge political leaders and fellow Americans to unequivocally and explicitly denounce white supremacy, white supremacist organizations, and the individuals and groups who adopt and act on white supremacist and right-wing extremist ideologies.

Please sign on here to the Jewish communal statement below by Friday, October 2 at 10:00 AM ET.

We join today as representatives of Jewish American communal organizations in response to President Trump’s refusal to denounce white supremacy during the September 29, 2020 Presidential Debate. The call to organizations like the Proud Boys, violent extremists with a long record of bigotry, to “stand back and stand by” immediately and dangerously galvanized groups and individuals supporting white supremacist ideologies.

White supremacy is a public safety emergency, a threat to American democracy and a global crisis. When white supremacists are encouraged by our own administration on the national debate stage, the security of the 2020 U.S. election is at stake as are the lives and safety of those routinely targeted by those groups. And the problematic impact of white supremacy in America exists both on the ground and online. Social media companies allow white supremacist groups to grow their membership. Algorithms and engagement metrics augment their voices. Troll storms torment their victims. Platforms are a mechanism for white supremacists to plan their attacks and even broadcast their violence.

We urge all our political leaders and all our fellow Americans to unequivocally and explicitly denounce white supremacy, white supremacist organizations, and the individuals and groups who adopt and act on white supremacist and right-wing extremist ideologies.

Jews as a people have a long history of being singled out, stigmatized, and blamed without basis during times of societal crisis. The Jewish community is not alone in experiencing these stigma. In times of great fear, uncertainty and unrest, the demonization of the other has had the capacity to encourage extreme violence fueled by bigotry, racism, hatred and antisemitism. Knowing the perilous reality of incitement compels us to call on all people and particularly all leaders to reject white supremacy and right-wing extremism.

Now is the time to condemn violence, not incite it. Now is the time to denounce white supremacy, not sustain it. Now is the time to encourage democracy, not jeopardize it.

Ted Cruz: Senate to Confirm Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court ‘Before Election Day’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that the Senate will confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court before the end of October.

Cruz spoke to Breitbart News as the former Supreme Court litigator released his book, One Vote Away: How a Single Supreme Court Seat Can Change History, which details his insight into the Supreme Court and how many of Americans’ most cherished freedoms hang in the balance of the nation’s highest court.

He further told Breitbart News that the book would give a “behind the curtain” view of the Supreme Court. He added that the book would help give readers context for the impact of the Supreme Court ahead of Barrett’s confirmation.

Cruz argued in front of the Supreme Court nine times and wrote over 80 Supreme Court briefs. He was also put on President Donald Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees.

The senator also clerked for then-Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist, and currently serves as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which would vote on Judge Barrett first, before sending her to the Senate for full confirmation. Cruz also chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution.

Cruz said that Judge Barrett is supremely qualified to serve on the nation’s highest court. He added that although Senate Democrats will do their best to attack her, the Senate will confirm Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court before Election Day.

Cruz told Breitbart News “So, I think Judge Barrett is a very strong nominee, I think President Trump made a good choice here. I sat down and spoke with her yesterday, about 45 minutes with Judge Barrett. And I thought she was very impressive; her credentials are impeccable. She was number one in her class at Notre Dame law school, she was a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, she has been a law professor at Notre Dame for 20 years, and she is one of the most respected federal appellate judges in the country. And, all top of all of that, she is also a mom with seven kids, which I can’t even imagine the latter one, much less doing everything else she’s managed to do altogether. And, you know I have to say when we sat down, and she visited yesterday, what impressed me the most was her demeanor, was the calm, the peacefulness; she brings a judicial temperament and an academic and a scholarly approach.

“I think she’s going to do very, very, well at the confirmation hearings, and I’m confident that we will have the votes and that we’ll confirm by the end of the month before Election Day.”

Cruz said that the prospect of having a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court has made the stakes even higher for Democrats. He added that the Democrats’ attack on Barrett’s adopted children and her strong Catholic faith is “despicable.”

‘Urge You To Delay Consideration’ — Sen. Feinstein Formally Asks To Delay Amy Coney Barrett’s Confirmation

Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein and a group of Democrats on Thursday formally asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham to delay the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, according to Fox News.

“The timeline for consideration of Judge Barrett’s nomination is incompatible with the Senate’s constitutional role,” Feinstein said in the letter, Fox News reported. “We again urge you to delay consideration of this nomination until after the presidential inauguration. The Senate and the American public deserve a deliberative, thorough process, and this falls far short.”

Meanwhile, Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney said he would support a floor vote on President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, giving Senate Republicans enough votes to move forward.

Only two Republican senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, have asked for the party to wait until after the election for a vote on a new nominee following the death of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

A number of Democratic senators have reportedly criticized Feinstein, saying she is not the right person to serve as the top Democrat on the Judiciary panel for the Supreme Court nomination hearings.

The Democratic senators spoke on the condition of anonymity and heavily criticized Feinstein in an interview with Politico, allegedly saying she will hurt Democrats during the Judiciary panel for the next Supreme Court nominee. One of the senators reportedly said there is no way Feinstein could pull off leading the hearings for Democrats.

Feinstein is responsible for leading the hearings for the Democrats and responded to the criticism.

“Let me say this — I know it’s going to be a fight, I understand that,” Feinstein continued. “I don’t have a lot of tools to use, but I’m going to use what I have. We can try to delay and obstruct but they can run this process through. That doesn’t mean that we won’t fight tooth and nail.”

Medical Cannabis Superior to Opioids for Chronic Pain, Study Finds

Sufferers of chronic pain have been faced with a perilous decision–risk a crippling addiction to opioids or find a way to live with the pain. A clinical study has focused on medical cannabis as an alternative to opioids, and the results may be a turning point towards a safe, plant-based option for easing pain.

A study published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine represents hope for millions of sufferers of chronic pain. Researchers at the Cannabis Clinical Research Institute at Soroka University Medical Center, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), found that medical cannabis can significantly reduce chronic pain without adverse effects, particularly among adults aged 65 and older. Use of cannabis, aka medical marijuana, was found to be both safe and effective for elderly patients experiencing pain because of another medical condition, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

One of the head researchers in this study, Prof. Victor Novack, M.D., is a professor of medicine in the BGU Faculty of Health Sciences (FOHS), as well as BGU’s Chair in Internal Medicine. He also heads the Soroka Cannabis Clinical Research Institute. According to Prof. Novack, M.D.:

“Older patients represent a large and growing population of medical cannabis users, [yet] few studies have addressed how it affects this particular group, which also suffers from dementia, frequent falls, mobility problems, and hearing and visual impairments.”[1]

The study surveyed 2,736 patients aged 65 years and older, at the inception of medical cannabis treatment, and throughout the 33-month study period. Surveys indicated the most common reasons for using cannabis were pain (66.6%) and cancer (60.8%). Methods of ingestion included cannabis-infused oils and smoking or vaporizing the herb. After six months of cannabis therapy, researchers provided a follow-up questionnaire which sought to determine any changes to pain intensity and quality of life, as well as any adverse events that were experienced. 901 of the original respondents replied.

After 6-months of medical marijuana treatment (all statistics are +/-):

94% reported an improved overall condition, and a 50% reduction in pain

60% reported improved quality of life, from “bad” or “very bad” to “good” or “very good”

70% reported moderate to significant improvement in their condition

20% of respondents stopped using opioids or reduced their dose

Dear Chris Wallace: We Were In Kenosha, And No, White Supremacists And Militias Didn’t Cause Violence

Chris Wallace and Democrats can keep pretending the right is to blame for the violence. But we were in Kenosha, talking to people on the ground. Voters know who the peaceful protesters are and who the rioters are.

If Chris Wallace’s goal during Tuesday night’s debate was to deflect from the months of left-wing violence from Black Lives Matter extremists and Antifa and instead blame it on President Donald Trump and his supporters, he did an excellent job.

“You have repeatedly criticized the vice president for not specifically calling out Antifa and other left-wing extremist groups,” Wallace, the debate moderator, said to Trump. “But are you willing tonight to condemn white supremacists and militia groups, and to say that they need to stand down and not add to the violence in a number of these cities, as we saw in Kenosha and as we’ve seen in Portland?”

Ignoring for a moment that Trump’s criticism of Joe Biden was absolutely warranted and that Wallace asked Trump to condemn white supremacists but did not ask Biden to condemn Black Lives Matter arsonists and looters, the question itself was specious. The violence in Kenosha was spurred by left-wing extremist groups, not white supremacists. We know — because we were there.

It Was Left-Wing Groups that Trashed Kenosha

Kenosha was up in flames, reduced to the same lawlessness that swept Minneapolis, Portland, Atlanta, and now this small Midwest town. Monday night in Kenosha, a day after law enforcement shot Jacob Blake, men and women stood with baseball bats and guns in front of their businesses and homes, trying to defend themselves against the extremist violence of the Black Lives Matter left. Since there weren’t enough police to control the situation, officers focused on defending public buildings, such as the courthouse, while leaving citizens to fend for themselves.

A woman, who said she had lived in Kenosha for more than 40 years, broke down in tears, saying her city felt like a “war zone” and she was “terrified.”

Boeing Moves All 787 Dreamliner Production To South Carolina

In a massive blow to Seattle, labor unions and the liberal run state of Washington, Boeing is moving its 787 Dreamliner production to South Carolina in an effort to cut costs, Bloomberg revealed on Thursday.

It is a move that is raising questions about how long Boeing may remain at its massive plant in Everett, where it has produced planes since the 1960s.

Dreamliner production is being consolidated as demand for Boeing's planes has dropped amidst the 737 MAX controversy and the ongoing pandemic which has decimated the travel industry. The easiest way for Boeing to cut costs is to move to non-union labor in South Carolina and trim its operations.

It's also the latest move in Boeing bolstering operations in Republican-governed South Carolina. Aerospace analyst Richard Aboulafi noted that 747 production would end by 2022 and that “the overhead costs will be increasingly borne by the surviving planes, the 767 and 777X, which don’t have a lot of pricing power right now.”

Washington Governor Jay Inslee stopped figuring out new ways to raise taxes and defund the police long enough to issue a statement critical of Boeing, stating that the state would need to take a "hard look" at Boeing's tax treatment. He estimated 1,000 jobs could be at risk.

Meanwhile, Boeing has been in the midst of scrambling to shore up its financials after two fatal 737 MAX crashes and the subsequent grounding of its 737 MAX planes in the interim. Melius Research estimates Boeing could see $23.3 billion in cash burn this year as a result of those groundings, coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Boeing CFO Greg Smith said in July: “The goal is to improve cash-flow profile, restore our balance-sheet strength as quickly as possible. And these actions will help get us there.”

Governor Inslee said: "We have asked the Boeing Company multiple times what it needs to keep 787 production in Washington". Inslee also claimed the move would "signal an allegiance to short-term profits and Wall Street…” Yeah, comrade. Also known as "capitalism".

Covid-19 infecting our DREAMS, says study – and researchers claim it hints at ‘some form of SHARED MINDSCAPE’

Many of us consider it a living nightmare and, now, new research proves the Covid-19 pandemic is invading our dreams too. Moreover, it concludes that the similar themes of its test subjects’ dreams point to a “shared” mindscape.

Researchers in Finland used artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the recent dreams of several hundred people, details of which had been recorded on a database. They found that Covid-19 had ‘infected’ over half the dreams that the participants described as ‘bad’. The resulting paper, titled ‘Pandemic Dreams: Network Analysis of Dream Content During the COVID-19 Lockdown’, was published on the online open-access journal Frontiers in Psychology.

To carry out their study, the researchers crowdsourced sleep and stress data from a pool of some 4,000 participants during the sixth week of lockdown in Finland, 800 of whom also gave detailed information about and descriptions of their dreams.

“The results allowed us to speculate that dreaming in extreme circumstances reveals shared visual imagery and memory traces, and, in this way, dreams can indicate some form of shared mindscape across individuals,”said lead author Dr. Anu-Katriina Pesonen, head of the Sleep & Mind Research Group at the University of Helsinki.

The team transcribed the content of participants’ dreams and then fed the text into an AI algorithm that parsed the dreams for shared content and word associations. That produced so-called “dream clusters” from “smaller dream particles” – subplots within dreams rather than entire, meandering narratives.

At least 33 of these dream clusters with shared themes emerged, 20 of which were classified as bad dreams. Some 55 percent of the bad dreams had pandemic-specific content.

As one might expect, dystopia and apocalypse were major recurring themes, as were failures in personal protective equipment (PPE), virus containment, and social distancing.

Over 50 percent of respondents reported sleeping more during the lockdown, while 25 percent reported frequent nightmares, and 10 percent said they had difficulty sleeping.

Meanwhile, at the University of Toronto Mississauga, researchers were conducting a similarly intense study of the pandemic’s impact on sleep, with strikingly similar results.

UK govt report claims Huawei security failings pose long-term risk, but company says defects not linked to ‘China interference’

UK security officials were not convinced by China’s Huawei Technologies that the security risks of using its products in Britain can be adequately managed in the long term, a government report said.

The Chinese company could only give “limited assurance” that risks to UK networks could be sufficiently mitigated from a long-term perspective, the report released on Thursday said. It cited “continued problems” with engineering and security practices at Huawei.

A government-led board, which includes officials from Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), signaled that the intelligence agency stressed that it had no confidence in the company’s ability to complete a cybersecurity overhaul.

While the board admitted that it was not aware of any of the vulnerabilities being exploited by nation-state hackers, it said that if cybercriminals have knowledge of these loopholes and the ability to make use of them, it could “affect the operation of a UK network.”

A company spokesman responded to the findings, saying: “The report acknowledges that while our software transformation process is in its infancy, we have made some progress in improving our software engineering capabilities.”

The US had earlier alleged that products from the world’s biggest maker of telecom networking equipment can be used by the Chinese government for spying. The firm, which has denied these allegations, said on Thursday that the UK assessment acknowledged equipment vulnerabilities were not a result of “Chinese state interference.”

Victor Zhang, vice president of Huawei, said in September that “the US administration has directly impacted Britain’s economy, ending the UK’s leadership in 5G, holding the country back from realizing its full potential for years to come.”

The UK had initially granted Huawei a limited role in its 5G infrastructure. However, PM Boris Johnson reversed that decision in July, ordering all of the company’s equipment to be purged from national networks by the end of 2027. The move prompted China’s Foreign Ministry to claim that Britain had lost its independence on the matter.

The UK government explained at the time that its about-turn was caused by the impact of new US restrictions on chip technology. The US Commerce Department on August 17 expanded curbs announced in May to prevent Huawei from obtaining semiconductors without a special license. The restrictions concerned chips made by foreign firms that have been developed or produced with US software or technology.

This prompted the UK’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) to claim that Huawei was no longer a reliable equipment supplier. At the same time, the report released on Thursday covered 2019 events and did not relate to the subsequent impact of recent US sanctions, the government noted.
