Early on Friday morning, Trump made the announcement that he, alongside the First Lady, had tested positive for coronavirus, joining a growing list of world leaders to contract the virus while simultaneously working to contain its spread.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin was quick to wish Trump a swift recovery, offering his support during “this difficult time,” according to a statement released by the Kremlin on Friday; “I am certain that your inherent vitality, good spirits and optimism will help you cope with this dangerous virus,” he wrote.

 

Reuters reports a spokesperson for German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she sends Donald Trump and his wife best wishes for a quick recovery from the infection.

 

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent his “best wishes to President Trump and the First Lady” and wished both a “speedyrecovery from coronavirus”—Johnson was admitted to a hospital ICU in April following persistent coronavirus symptoms.

 

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, wished Trump a “speedyrecovery” on Twitter and underscored the need to remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to tackle the outbreak: “#COVID-19 is a battle we all continue to fight. Everyday. No matter where we live.”

 

“Like millions of Israelis, Sara and I are thinking of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and wish our friends a full andspeedyrecovery,” wrote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Twitter.

 

Polish President Andrzej Duda wished aspeedyrecovery on Twitter. “#Poland and #USA will get through the hardships and succeed in fighting #COVID19.”

 

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus took to Twitter to wish a “full andspeedyrecovery” and the news comes after Trump terminated the U.S.’ relationship with the organization after accusing it of “severely mismanaging and covering up” the coronavirus outbreak.

 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was wishing his “friend” and the First Lady “a quick recovery and good health.”

 

Reuters reports that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wished the President and First Lady a quick recovery at a regular government news conference.

 

Vice President Mike Pence wrote that he and his wife, Karen, “join millions across America praying for their full and swift recovery.” Both tested negative for coronavirus following the President and First Lady’s diagnosis. “God bless you President Trump & our wonderful First Lady Melania.”
