PB - sounds like asthma maybe. I've had asthma all my life, was worse as a kid, but attacks always start out with a little tickle in my throat, sinus drip can start the coughing fit and then I'll have narrow airways/wheezy, slight cough for next hour unless I use an inhaler. You really should quit and see if it goes away.
