This isn't even necessary. From personal experience with a family member, one of the FIRST things they should be trying is interruptions in the sympathetic nervous system with clamps.
They use this with hyperhydrosis surgery where they clamp the sympathetic nerves that are enlarged, thus stopping the excess sweating. What was discovered with this surgery is that is also is tied to anxiety disorders. These nerve endings become enlarged for some reason and by putting a clamp on them it seems to cure it.
When my family member had this surgery and the Dr clamped the enlarged nerve, their heart rate dropped 20 beats per minute instantly, while under general anesthesia. Meaning, it had an INSTANT calming effect. The nice thing about the clamps is that they are also removable if they are not successful. There are Dr's in europe who have used the surgery for anxiety/depression, but in the US we have the lovely pharma co's who wouldn't want that.
