should i use image stabilization on a boat?

should I use Image Stabilization in the open seaโ€‹

It may depend on the situation. Is the boat moving? Is what you are shooting moving?

On stationary boat shooting stationary object: Yes, I would use Image Stabilization.

On moving boat shooting something traveling at the same speed and direction (water skier, another boat): Yes.

On moving boat shooting something not moving: Use Mode 2.

On moving boat shooting something moving in a different direction: Use Mode 2.

Shooting someone on the same boat: No.

OR

if they are using a tripod, they should have turned the "image stabiliazer" off. This could be causing the slight movement.

  1. Tips for a Stable Image

While image stabilization systems can be very useful to smooth handheld footage, they can cause issues when using a camera on a tripod and so should be switched off.

camera setting. on a moving object both sites state to turn it off, for a boat or an airplane.

I guess image stabilizer works when a person is holding the camera. On a tripod, the image stabilizer must get confused. its base is not moving, but it can feel the movement of the boat/plane.
