I lusted after the Osborne lunchbox. Didn't have the money and didn't know where to buy one, either. Ended up with a bunch of boxes that became (with a little elbow grease and some studying) an XT with TWO 5.25" DSDD floppies, a 40 meg Seagate HDD, filled out ram slots, a daughter card for MORE ram and both a 10mhz cpu and math co-processor in a flip top desktop case.
Fully tricked out, it eventually (amber, CGA, EGA, VGA) got a decent monitor, too.
To be honest, I MISS the TUI and amber monitor. The ONLY game I ever ran on it was a pirated Wolfenstein 3d. Best wordprocessor at the time was Wordstar Legal. Spreadsheet was Quattro (not yet Pro) and I learned about relational databases with a copy of Alpha 4.
And yeah, this is just a shit post … tired of the baker debates.
