Border Patrol In El Paso Raids 7 Stash Houses
EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents strike a blow to human smuggling organizations in the month of September.
Last month’s activity included the discovery of at least seven stash houses, over 100 inadmissible individuals taken into custody in connection with the stash hash discoveries, and the arrest of eight criminal smugglers. Those arrested included aliens from a variety of countries to include Ecuador, Cuba, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Agents collaborated with federal and state law enforcement agencies in Texas and New Mexico to rescue the individuals from harsh and less than humane conditions. The stash houses were located in the Fabens, San Elizario, El Paso and Chaparral communities.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, these arrests demonstrate the reckless and dangerous practices human smugglers use to place their human cargo and our border communities in harm’s way.
“The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t deterred human smuggling organizations from exploiting the youth and others in our communities and utilizing them to further their criminal activities,” stated El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “I am thankful to our border patrol agents and our law enforcement partners for their continued commitment in targeting these criminal organizations and rescuing human beings from these squalid conditions.”

A Recall of Fruit In 9 States Has Been Announced | What To Know
Country Fresh is extending their voluntary recall issued on October 2, 2020 to include various containers of “Freshness Guaranteed “cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples and cantaloupe distributed by Walmart. The recall is a precautionary measure due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes detected on equipment used in an area near where these products are packed. FDA discovered these findings during a recent inspection.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recall affects product codes of various fresh fruit items shipped directly to Walmart retail distribution centers and sent to select stores located in AR, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MO, OK, and TX. The products were packaged in various size clam shell containers (see photos). The “best if used by” dates are between October 3, 2020 and October 11, 2020 and the products are as follows:

Using Old Laws, Dem Michigan Gov. Reissues Mask Order & Gathering Limits Under New Authority
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration dug up old laws that gives the state government authority to reissue mandates in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Robert Gordon, Director of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services wrote:
Today the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is issuing an epidemic order to sustain rules that have protected Michiganders’ lives for months: requiring masks, limiting gatherings, and safeguarding nursing homes. A divided Michigan Supreme Court struck down these requirements on Friday. Our order today flows from a legal authority not at issue in Friday’s case. It is important we stay the course we’ve been on. When it comes to defeating COVID-19, we’re all in this together.
The science is clear: wearing masks can reduce the chance of transmitting COVID by about 70%. Even with masks, transmission is likeliest when people are within 6 feet of each other for 15 minutes, especially indoors. The failure to take proper precautions can enable the disease to spread—whether in an East Lansing bar or at the White House.
When Michigan was hard hit by the virus in March, strong orders based on science played an integral part in our effective response. Michigan initially had the third most deaths per capita in the nation. Our response included firm requirements for individuals to stay home (March 23, strengthened April 9) and to wear masks (April 24). By June, cases had fallen dramatically, but they began to grow, partly due to outbreaks linked to bars. We responded by closing bars (July 1 and 29) and strengthening the requirements around masks (July 17). The curve flattened again.
Today, Michigan has fallen to 10th for total fatalities. That ranking translates into thousands more Michiganders who are still alive. Further thousands are free from debilitating conditions that many COVID survivors face.
Now risks around COVID are rising: students are back in school, colder weather is moving us indoors, and flu season is approaching. The number of cases has been creeping up, too. We are tired of the virus, but the virus isn’t tired of us.
As in the spring, orders are still critical to make clear the shared norms that each of us must follow so all of us can stay healthy. For those of us who sometimes waver—and after seven months, that’s most of us—orders require us, as a matter of law and civic responsibility, to stay the course and protect each other.
