Live update: Kyrgyz President Says Some Political Forces Tried to Seize Power Illegally Overnight

The capital of Kyrgyzstan saw mass protests after the preliminary results of Sunday's parliamentary election, supporting the parties that failed to qualify and demanding re-voting.

Protesters in Bishkek broke into area of the White House where the parliament and the presidential administration of Kyrgyzstan are situated, according to a Sputnik correspondent.

Protesters supporting the parties that did not make it into parliament rammed the gate with the truck and then rushed inside.

According to witnesses, a convoy of cars left the parliament building a few minutes before the incident. When the protesters arrived, there were no officials or guards in the building.

A caption says: "The protesters entered the White House. The son of former President Almazbek Atambayev, Kadyr Atambayev, was taken into the building".

The Kyrgyz capital saw protests after the preliminary results of parliamentary election were released on Sunday. Estimated 2,000 demonstrators gathered on Monday in Bishkek to demand re-voting and support parties that did not pass the seven percent vote threshold to gain seats in parliament.

Political party Birimdik ("Unity"), which is leading in the parliamentary election, agreed for the re-voting in the elections of members of the parliament "if they are announced".

Amid the protests, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov announced plans to meet on Tuesday with leaders of political parties that participated in the election.

University of Kentucky SEGREGATES resident assistants by race for ‘abhorrent’ mandatory white-shaming training

The University of Kentucky has subjected incoming Resident Assistants to segregated training sessions in which the white group was made to identify with racist generalizations, documents leaked by a participant reveal.

Presented with a lengthy list of white “microaggressions” and derogatory accusations of “privilege,” the RAs in the “White Accountability Space” group were required to display the document on their computer screens at all times during marathon “breakout session” Zoom calls, a student whistleblower told Young America’s Foundation on Monday. The student, who wished to remain anonymous for fear of academic repercussions, also supplied a cover letter and a document from the whites-only training titled “Common racist behaviors and attitudes of white people.”

White people, the lengthy document declared, do “not notice the daily indignities that people of color experience;” rather, they “deny them and rationalize them away with PLEs (perfectly logical explanations.” Worse, those logic-addled white folks “believe they have ‘earned’ what they have, rather than acknowledge the extensive white privilege and unearned advantages they receive,” and are secretly terrified of being “found out” as racists.

White students were also accused of “interrupt[ing] and talk[ing] over people of color” as well as “exaggerat[ing] the level of intimacy they have with individual people of color,” while at the same time “internaliz[ing] negative stereotypes about people of color” and thinking whites were superior. Further confusing the issue, they were accused of “act[ing] more distant and formal with people of color.”

During the struggle sessions, students were expected to spill their guts to the facilitator and each other about which of the negative behaviors they recognized in themselves and share strategies about how to “best support our minority colleagues and be more mindful of the micro aggressions we commit against them every day by being white,” the tipster reported. The focus, they explained, was on acknowledging the RAs’ “extensive white privilege.”

Israeli minister urged to step down after traveling despite lockdown & revealing Covid-19 diagnosis

Israel’s environment minister has apologized after coming under fire for testing positive for Covid-19 days after apparently disregarding national lockdown rules to travel some 140 kilometers from home on Yom Kippur.

Minister Gila Gamliel announced on October 3 that she’d contracted the virus, following her journey a week earlier from her Tel Aviv home to a synagogue in the city of Tiberias.

In a statement published by Israeli media on Monday, Gamliel apologized for an “error in judgment,” while insisting she had acted within the guidelines as her husband owns the apartment they stayed at in Tiberias.

“I understand that in this period in which there is great importance in maintaining public trust in government instructions, it's possible I made an error in judgment and that there was room to act differently,” she said.

“I apologize to the public, and announce that I will pay the required fine.”

Local reports claim that the Likud politician evaded health ministry investigators for hours. According to sources cited by Haaretz, Gamliel allegedly told epidemiological investigators that she had contracted Covid-19 from her driver, but the health checks apparently revealed that some of her family members who also tested positive for the virus had not had contact with the driver.

Gamliel then apparently admitted that, along with her husband, she and relatives had visited a synagogue in Tiberias for Yom Kippur.

The controversy over Gamliel’s movements emerged as protests continue in Israel over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s tightening of the country’s second national lockdown. Under new travel rules Israelis are limited to a one kilometer radius of their homes, a decision that demonstrators say is really aimed at discouraging protests. Israel’s Tourism Minister Asaf Zamir resigned on Friday in protest at the PM’s handling of the pandemic.

Former Saudi spy chief: Palestinian leaders have been ‘failures’ for 70 years

In unsparing interview, top ex-official Bandar bin Sultan says Palestinians took Riyadh’s support for granted, calls criticism of UAE deal with Israel ‘reprehensible’

Palestinian leaders are “failures” who have consistently missed opportunities for a settlement with Israel and who are aligning themselves with the enemies of Saudi Arabia, former Saudi intelligence chief Bandar bin Sultan said in an interview with Saudi-owned al-Arabiya TV that aired Monday.

“The Palestinian cause is a just cause, but its advocates are failures. The Israeli cause is unjust, but its advocates are successful. That sums up the events of the last 70 or 75 years,” bin Sultan said.

Bin Sultan served as the Saudi ambassador in Washington for over 30 years, as well as in several high-level intelligence positions after his return to Riyadh. He led Saudi Arabia’s security services from 2012 to 2014, also directing the Saudi National Security Council for over a decade.

In scathing statements on al-Arabiya — a 40-minute lecture, complete with archival footage — bin Sultan discussed the history of Saudi-Palestinian relations. He harshly criticized the Palestinian leadership for what he deemed to be repeated missed opportunities to reach an accord with Israel, and for taking Saudi aid while ignoring Saudi political counsel.

“I believe that we in Saudi Arabia, acting on our goodwill, have always been there for them. Whenever they asked for advice and help, we would provide them with both without expecting anything in return, but they would take the help and ignore the advice. Then they would fail and turn back to us again, and we would support them again, regardless of their mistakes,” bin Sultan said.

“We even went further as a state and justified to the whole world the actions of the Palestinians, while we knew that they, indeed, were not justified, but we did not wish to stand with anyone against them,” bin Sultan said.

The ex-spy chief’s remarks reflect growing public disenchantment with the Palestinian leadership in Saudi Arabia, as well as warming ties between the kingdom and the Jewish state. Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman told The Atlantic monthly in 2017 that he believed that both Palestinians and Israelis had the right “to their own land.”
