Judge Garaufis Recommends Minimum Security Danbury Prison Camp For Clare Bronfman, but He Doesn’t Have Final Say
Last week, Clare Bronfman’s attorney, Ronald Sullivan, Jr., filed a letter asking Judge Nicholas Garaufis to recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Clare be assigned to the minimum security camp at the federal prison complex in Danbury, Connecticut or to another similar camp and to release her $100 million bail bond.
The judge agreed to both.
His order reads:
ORDER: Defendant’s request to exonerate bail is GRANTED. The court recommends to the Bureau of Prisons that Defendant be designated to the minimum security camp at Danbury, CT. So-Ordered. Ordered by Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis on 10/5/2020. (Gurian, Nico) (Entered: 10/05/2020)
It sounds promising for the heiress and she may well wind up in the minimum security women’s camp in Danbury with an estimated 78 other women.
However, the judge does not have the final say on where Clare is placed. That’s up to the Bureau of Prisons [BOP], which is a division of the United States Department of Justice, the same department that prosecuted Bronfman.
It might be argued that if the judge really wanted Clare to be placed in the Danbury camp, he would have specifically asked prosecutors in the Bronfman case to contact the BOP about Clare’s placement.
According to the Albany Times Union, the Danbury camp has “dormitory housing, relatively low staff-to-inmate ratios and limited or no perimeter fencing, according to the prisons bureau. The prison camp at Danbury has over the years offered a baseball field, volleyball net and walking track.”
[The volleyball might seem a little like home for Clare, who used to watch Keith Raniere play volleyball on Friday nights along with many of his other female devotees.]

The nude celebs warned citizens that failure to carefully follow the instructions on a postal vote can result in a 'naked ballot', which will not be deemed valid in the count for the November 3 presidential election.
Liberal comedians and actors have gone nude in a video to warn voters against mailing in a 'naked ballot' for next month's presidential election.
Quite how the sight of Chris Rock, Mark Ruffalo or Josh Gad in the altogether would persuade anyone to do anything is questionable, but the stars urged fellow citizens to closely follow the instructions.
"Take your clothes off and vote!" demanded Comedienne Amy Schumer, the cousin of Democratic Party Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer - regardless of the legal implications.
"I gotta gets my ballot to the MotherF***ing post office. Let's Go!" says Tiffany Haddish from the seat of her car.
School of Rock and Wreck-it Ralph star Sarah Silverman - supported by her buck-naked father 'Schleppy' - and Chelsea Handler warned that in states like Pennsylvania send out ballots with two return envelopes, one of which holds the completed ballot paper and must then be stuffed in the second.

Failure to follow those instructions results in the dreaded "naked ballot" which will not be valid in the count, expected to take weeks after the November 3 polling day due to the predicted tens of millions of postal votes.
The only clothed celeb in sight was Borat Sagdiyev - the alter-ego of British comedy actor Sacha Baron Cohen - who objected "I have hram like can of Pepsi."

Cayman Islands Removed From EU Tax Haven Blacklist
Despite its status as one of the world’s most secretive and low tax jurisdictions, the European Council announced on Tuesday that it has delisted the Cayman Islands from the EU’s list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes – informally known as its tax haven blacklist.
This decision added fuel to the fire for critics who have argued that the criteria for listing is flawed, arbitrary, and perhaps even politically motivated.
“This is an extraordinary decision, and hard to know whether it's testament to the lobbying efforts of the world's worst financial secrecy jurisdiction, Cayman, or the sheer methodological ineptitude of the EU blacklist,” Alex Cobham, Chief Executive of the Tax Justice Network wrote on his Twitter account.
His organization’s Financial Secrecy Index, which ranks jurisdictions according to their secrecy and scale of offshore financial activities, lists the British overseas territory as the world’s worst tax haven. It also determined it to be the third greatest enabler of corporate tax avoidance behind only the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda, according to its Corporate Tax Haven Index.
According to Tuesday’s European Council press release, the Cayman Islands was delisted “after it adopted new reforms to its framework on Collective Investment Funds in September 2020.”
It was one of two jurisdictions, along with Oman, to be removed from the EU list, which was first established in December 2017, and is updated twice a year.
Cayman’s Premier, Alden McLaughlin, welcomed the decision, saying that his government remains committed to good governance standards on this issue, and that he “will continue collaborating with the EU, including through broadening our dialogue to topics of mutual interest.”
As reported by the BBC, the islands became the first U.K. territory to be added to the blacklist in February of this year. Upon receiving the news, its government released a statement saying that it was already in discussions with EU officials to be delisted as soon as possible.
Oxfam, an international NGO, found the news of the Cayman’s blacklisting to be “encouraging” at the time, but stated that there were many other tax havens that should have been included.
In response to this development, Chiara Putaturo, Oxfam’s EU Tax Policy Advisor, said that “removing the Cayman Islands, one of the world’s most notorious tax havens, from the EU tax haven blacklist is further proof that the process isn’t working.”

Grotesque Math Error On Treasury Website Misrepresents Interest On US Debt By 30%
In a time of unprecedented fiscal stimulus, one would think that the US Treasury would at least be able to afford a recent version of excel or at least calculators. But one would apparently be wrong, because a quick look at the Treasury Direct website's disclosure of monthly and annual interest paid on Treasury debt reveals something odd.
Did you spot it?
If not, add across the individual monthly totals and what you should get is full fiscal year total of $517,640,843,766.42. Instead, the stated number is some 30% lower, or $368,102,426,277.71, which would have been appropriate 15 years ago, but certainly not now.
We have asked the Treasury whether this kind of "non-GAAP" math is used elsewhere, like for example in calculating the total amount of US debt, which is now a record $27.05 trillion having surpassed $26 trillion on Oct 1, but if the US authority which literally prints money can't afford calculators, we wouldn't hold out too much hope for computers or other email-enabled devices.

She later theorized that these were likely Trump supporters who were staying ‘silent’ because of her Biden gear.
Eventually, she found a few reluctant Biden “supporters”. But even then, none of them had any real substance as to why they were going to vote for him. Their main argument was that he was “not Trump”.
One lady said Joe Biden was going to win the election but she couldn’t identify a single thing that he had done in his 47 year career.
