Kissinger Warns: China-US Must Agree To "Limits" On Making Threats Or Risk War

Two major and relatable statements have been issued Wednesday on the question of US ties with Taiwan and China's growing anger and increasingly bellicose rhetoric in response.

First, the notoriously hawkish editor-in-chief of China’s state-owned news tabloid the Global Times issued a threat, saying China should "fully prepare itself for war" with Taiwan in the event it restores diplomatic relations with the United States.

Hu Xijin wrote in his latest opinion piece that "We must no longer hold any more illusions. The only way forward is for the mainland to fully prepare itself for war and to give Taiwan secessionist forces a decisive punishment at any time."

The GT editor added that "As the secessionist forces' arrogance continues to swell, the historical turning point is getting closer." The secessionist forces he was specifically denouncing is the Taiwanese Kuomintang Party, or KMT, who he described as having "woken up on the wrong side of the bed. They have gone downhill and become vulgar."

And the latest actions of its legislators is what he finds most alarming, according to his description:

The Kuomintang (KMT) group in Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" proposed two bills, asking the island's authorities to request US assistance in resisting the Communist Party of China and to resume diplomatic ties with the US. The move is widely believed to checkmate the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and put the DPP in a difficult position.

Xijin was also responding amid US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's continued tour of Asia, where in Tokyo Tuesday he tried to shore up support for something akin to an 'Asian NATO' to counter growing Chinese influence, specifically among China trade partners Japan, Australia, and India.

Pompeo also bluntly told Nikkei Asian Review in response to a question on defending Taiwan from the mainland:

"We've only come to recognize that appeasement's not the answer," he said. "If one bends the knee each time the Chinese Communist Party takes action around the world, one will find themselves having to bend the knee with great frequency."

Meanwhile, addressing the growing bellicose rhetoric for months coming out of Washington and Beijing, also given semi-regular military tensions in the South China Sea, but especially as competing defensive drills escalate around Taiwan and the Strait, ex-Secretary of State and famous veteran diplomat Henry Kissinger called for the United States and China to "agree on limits" when it comes to making threats.

DHS announces ICE enforcement actions on criminal aliens released due to California sanctuary policies

WASHINGTON – Today the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the conclusion to a week-long targeted enforcement operation that resulted in the apprehension of over 125 at-large aliens across the state of California, where sanctuary policies have largely prohibited the cooperation of law enforcement agencies in the arrest of criminal aliens.

The ICE enforcement actions, which took place Sept. 28 to Oct 2, targeted aliens subject to removal who were arrested for crimes but were released by state or local law enforcement agencies, despite having active immigration detainers in place. Over 95% percent of those aliens arrested, had criminal convictions or pending criminal charges at the time of arrest.

“Unfortunately, certain local politicians, including many in California continue to put politics over public safety. Instead of fulfilling our shared mission to protect our communities, they would rather play politics with the law by enacting so-called sanctuary city policies to the detriment of our country’s safety,” said Acting Secretary Chad Wolf “Operation Rise is proof-positive that we will never back down from enforcing the rule of law, with or without the cooperation of local politicians.”

“A part of ICE’s mission is to protect the American people and provide security to our communities. We accomplish this when we are partners and not adversaries with our localities. These partnerships allow ICE to secure dangerous criminal aliens prior to their release into the communities thereby reducing the opportunity for recidivist behavior,” said Tony H. Pham, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the ICE Director. “Unfortunately, California’s sanctuary laws protect and shield criminal aliens, harboring them in our communities where they can potentially reoffend and revictimize.”

During these recent enforcement actions, ICE officers in California identified, targeted and arrested many criminal aliens who were previously released from local and state law enforcement custody despite having lawful immigration detainers lodged with local law enforcement officials.

In the Los Angeles-area alone, officers arrested nearly 100 unlawfully present individuals – with criminal histories that include homicide, sexual assault, sex crimes involving children, assault, robbery, domestic violence and DUI.

Arrests made during this enforcement action included:

A 40-year-old citizen and national of El Salvador arrested on Sept. 29 in Los Angeles and convicted by the Los Angeles Superior Court of first-degree murder in November 2009. Despite an immigration detainer lodged with the Los Angeles County Jail (LACJ), the jail declined to honor the detainer and instead released him into the community. He is now in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

A 50-year-old citizen and national of Mexico arrested on Sept. 28, in Long Beach, California, and convicted by the Los Angeles Superior Court of conspiracy to commit second-degree murder in June 1994. Despite an immigration detainer lodged with the LACJ, the jail declined to honor the detainer and instead released him into the community. He had a final order of removal and was deported back to Mexico the same day.

Nationally, approximately 86% of ERO’s administrative arrests in FY2019, consisted of aliens with criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.

In FY 2019, ICE arrested individuals with more than 1,900 convictions and charges for homicide, 1,800 for kidnapping, 12,000 sex offenses, 5,000 sexual assaults, 45,000 assaults, 67,000 crimes involving drugs, 10,000 weapons offenses, and 74,000 DUIs. ICE continues to target criminal aliens and other public safety and national security threats every day.

ICE does not exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement. All those in violation of immigration law may be subject to arrest, detention and, if found removable by final order, removal from the United States. ICE takes many factors into account when targeting and arresting individuals, including their criminal and immigration history.

Sanctuary policies restrict most forms of cooperation with federal immigration authorities and vastly impede ICE’s ability to work with partner agencies, according to ICE officials, requiring ICE to arrest at-large criminal aliens in the communities, instead of a secure, jail environment.

ICE maintains that cooperation with local law enforcement is essential to protecting public safety, and the agency aims to work cooperatively with local jurisdictions to ensure that criminal aliens are not released into U.S. communities to commit additional crimes.

New England Journal of Medicine Editorial Wants Nation’s ‘Leaders’ Voted Out over COVID

The New England Journal of Medicine has published an editorial calling for the current leaders of the United States to be voted out of office.

The editorial, “Dying in a Leadership Vacuum,” declares:

Covid-19 has created a crisis throughout the world. This crisis has produced a test of leadership. With no good options to combat a novel pathogen, countries were forced to make hard choices about how to respond. Here in the United States, our leaders have failed that test. They have taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy.

The response of our nation’s leaders has been consistently inadequate. The federal government has largely abandoned disease control to the states. Governors have varied in their responses, not so much by party as by competence. But whatever their competence, governors do not have the tools that Washington controls. Instead of using those tools, the federal government has undermined them. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which was the world’s leading disease response organization, has been eviscerated and has suffered dramatic testing and policy failures. The National Institutes of Health have played a key role in vaccine development but have been excluded from much crucial government decision making. And the Food and Drug Administration has been shamefully politicized, appearing to respond to pressure from the administration rather than scientific evidence. Our current leaders have undercut trust in science and in government, causing damage that will certainly outlast them. Instead of relying on expertise, the administration has turned to uninformed “opinion leaders” and charlatans who obscure the truth and facilitate the promulgation of outright lies.

Anyone else who recklessly squandered lives and money in this way would be suffering legal consequences. Our leaders have largely claimed immunity for their actions. But this election gives us the power to render judgment. Reasonable people will certainly disagree about the many political positions taken by candidates. But truth is neither liberal nor conservative. When it comes to the response to the largest public health crisis of our time, our current political leaders have demonstrated that they are dangerously incompetent. We should not abet them and enable the deaths of thousands more Americans by allowing them to keep their jobs.

The editorial does not mention the decision by Democrat governors to send coronavirus-infected patients to nursing homes.

According to CNN, the editorial was drafted two months ago, but only published today. It is one of the few editorials published in the history of the journal.

ICE, local law enforcement agencies announce results of operation targeting sex trafficking

HOUSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Houston, Texas, and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday the results of an operation targeting sex trafficking in Fort Bend County, Texas.

The operation dubbed “Operation Patriot” targeted sex trafficking organizations and sex buyers from Sept. 9 – 16.

Forty-six individuals were arrested as a result of the operation, including six arrests for promotion of prostitution, 40 arrests for prostitution and six arrests for narcotics.

HSI Houston Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Mary Magness explained why it is critical to target both the trafficking organizations and the sex buyers.

“What we often find is if you only eliminate the supply-side of sex trafficking, another criminal organization will move in to fulfill the demand,” explained ASAC Magness. “So we simultaneously target both the organizations behind the sex trafficking and the people who support it, to more effectively eradicate this vile criminal activity from the community.”

In addition to the 46 criminal arrests, HSI Houston and local law enforcement rescued five victims. HSI employs a victim-centered approach to combat human trafficking, which places equal importance on the identification and stabilization of victims, as the identification and prosecution of traffickers.

“Sex traffickers often rely on physical and sexual abuse, threats of harm, economic and psychological manipulation, and cruelty to force their victims to engage in commercial sex,” said ASAC Magness. “To better confront these realities of human trafficking, we integrate trauma-informed victim support services throughout our criminal investigation.”

Other agencies involved in the operation included: the Department of Family & Protective Services; Department of Public Safety; DeliverFund; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office; Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office; Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office; Fort Bend County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office; Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office; Galveston County District Attorney’s Office; Harris County District Attorney’s Office; Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office; Harris County Sheriff’s Office; Houston Police Department; Missouri City Police Department; Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office; Office of the Texas Attorney General; Stafford Police Department; Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission; Texas Forensic Nurse Examiners; and the YMCA – International.

HSI Houston is a partner in the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance (HTRA) for the Southern District of Texas. The HTRA is a multidisciplinary human trafficking task force that implements collaborative approaches to combat all forms of human trafficking in the Southern District of Texas.

In FY 2019, HSI Houston, working in conjunction with the HTRA, arrested 205 individuals for human trafficking-related offenses, which accounted for approximately 10% of all human trafficking-related arrests in the U.S.

ICE arrests alleged Mexican street gang leader

NEW YORK – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) officers took custody of Fernando Olea-Prado, 25, a self-described leader of the Sureños (Sur 13) street gang, in Corona, New York, Oct. 1.

ICE previously removed Olea-Prado, who illegally entered the U.S. at an undetermined time and location, on two separate occasions in August 2013.

On Sept. 11, 2020, New York Police Department arrested and charged Olea-Prado, an unlawfully present Mexican national, with three counts of robbery, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of stolen property.

After his most recent arrest, Olea-Prado had been released from local law enforcement custody despite being the subject of an active ICE detainer. Local law enforcement agencies routinely fail to honor ICE detainers as a matter of policy, which was adopted by the local city government.

“Where is the concern for the safety of the citizens that these local politicians were elected to protect?” asks Thomas R. Decker, ERO New York field office director. “It’s reprehensible that local politicians passed a law that allows a twice-removed, violent street gang member to be released from custody to commit more violence in this city.”

Decker went on to suggest that New York’s sanctuary city policies, which bar local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE’s immigration enforcement activities, underscore the importance of ICE’s public safety mission.

“When you have a criminal alien, like Olea-Prado, who flouts U.S. immigration laws, coupled with his gang membership, and the safe haven granted by local politicians, it creates a dangerous situation for New York City residents,” said Decker. “That’s why ICE officers must continue removing violent criminals like Olea-Prado.”

Olea-Prado will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings before an immigration judge.

About detainers

ICE relies on the exchange of information with its law enforcement agency partners to access foreign-born inmates at local, state, and federal facilities, and the use of detainers as part of its public safety mission. In many cases, these individuals pose a demonstrable threat to communities.

By lodging detainers against those individuals, ICE makes every effort to ensure that removable aliens are turned over to ICE custody after their criminal detention rather than being released into the community where many abscond or re-offend.

ICE recently released a quarterly declined detainer report to raise awareness of the type of dangerous criminals released in New York and communities around the country.

The report explains that ICE is congressionally mandated to remove criminal aliens from the U.S. and that public safety is jeopardized when local governments prohibit law enforcement agencies from honoring ICE detainers. These local policies, the report explains, force ICE to increase its presence in local communities.

CBS News Buries Joe Biden Sex Scandal by Airing Tara Reade Interview in AUSTRALIA

On Sunday, CBS News ran a damning interview with Tara Reade, the woman who accused then-Senator Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993. The segment proved rather juicy — complete with a retelling of the alleged assault, an interview with Reade’s neighbor bolstering her accusation, and Reade’s explosive claim that the legacy media’s bias makes Biden “untouchable” when it comes to sexual assault allegations.

CBS News arguably confirmed Reade’s claims about media bias. Rather than running the explosive interview on the U.S. television program 60 Minutes, CBS News consigned them to the Australian version of the show, nearly ten thousand miles away from most U.S. voters.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) excoriated CBS News for this.

“This is the most complete indictment of media bias ever. Why does CBS think voters in…Australia need to know about these serious charges against Biden, but not voters in…America (where he’s actually on the ballot)? ONLY explanation is that [CBS News]

is covering up for Dems,” he tweeted.

Since 2017, CBS News runs Network Ten, the CBS News subsidiary that produces 60 Minutes Australia on the Nine Network. CBS News also provides selected international segments for the show.

60 Minutes Australia briefly mentioned the fact that 25 women have made sexual assault claims against Donald Trump, claims that Trump has repeatedly denied.

“Unlike Trump’s accusers, Tara has received a barrage of scrutiny,” the host explained. “Do you feel as though, if Joe Biden wasn’t Joe Biden, your allegations would be taken more seriously?” she asked Reade.

“Absolutely. If he was a Republican. I think the fact that he’s an elite Democrat put him in this untouchable position,” Reade argued.

The accuser said that “deep down” Biden knows the claims to be true. “You don’t have to believe me. I’m the one who has to live with it,” she added.

Reade noted that she had nothing to gain in coming forward with this story. “There’s nothing to gain. In my case, I lost everything. I lost work, legitimacy, I lost my reputation, I lost friendships. I lost my housing, everything. Money. Everything,” she said.
