He could have used his computer as the "thumb drive". I dont know a lot about computers but as far as I have heard, the discrepancy lies in the speed of transfer of information (could not have been over the internet) not whether or not a specific external drive was used…

That wpuld make sense to someone who admits they dont know a lot about computers, however the data transfer rate of a USB cord is slower than the newest USB drive…

That way you could have shown off your big brain in front of your friends without being a narcissistic asshole…
