Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Wednesday sent a letter to CIA Director Gina Haspel expressing frustration with her failure to disclose Russia probe documents they requested more than 2 months prior.

“We are becoming increasingly disappointed by the CIA’s continued inability to timely respond to our legitimate oversight requests,” the letter (pdf) states. “Your staff met only once with our staff to discuss these requests, and CIA has not produced a single document in response.”

The retired Florida State football coach was recently diagnosed with coronavirus, and he’s now in the hospital in Tallahassee. His wife Ann told the Tallahassee Democrat that he was admitted to the hospital Tuesday because of fatigue. Despite being in the hospital, Ann remains optimistic.

“I feel sure he’s going to be OK…I am very positive. I am not an alarmist. He hasn’t been getting around much at all due to his leg; it has been pretty painful. He sleeps much of the day,” Ann explained.

Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday the city’s police would crack down on Jewish protesters who light fires or commits acts of violence while demonstrating against new restrictions in areas of the city that are seeing spikes in coronavirus, including Jewish sections of Brooklyn and Queens.

“The NYPD will not tolerate people doing harm to others. There will be no tolerance for setting fires,” de Blasio said. “If anyone commits an act of assault, of course there will be consequences.”

On Tuesday night, there was no New York City Police Department action — meaning no summonses or arrests — after a Hasidic protesters in Brooklyn grew aggressive, setting a fire and attacking a photographer, according to the New York Post.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who imposed the new rules restricting capacity at houses of worship and businesses in parts of the city, said the blame rests with communities that did not carry out his previous edicts to the letter.

“To the extent there are communities that are upset, that’s because they hadn’t been following the original rules. And that’s why the infection spread, because they weren’t following the rules,” he said at a news briefing Wednesday.

“And the rules weren’t being enforced. The rules weren’t being enforced because the communities didn’t want to follow them. I understand that. But that’s why we are where we are. Make no mistake.”

Speaking to Jewish protesters Tuesday night, community activist Heshy Tischler seethed defiance over the restrictions, according to the Post.

“It’s called civil disobedience, we can fight back,” Tischler said after ripping his mask from his face.

He breathed scorn at elected officials.

“Do not allow them to torture you or scare you,” he said.

As a separate protest, Democratic NYC Councilman Kalman Yeger told Jewish marchers, “We are not going to be deprived of the right that we have in America, like everybody else in America, the right to observe our religion.”

During the protest, demonstrators threw their masks into a fire, WNBC-TV reported.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris of California was more grating than great, according to a focus group that watched Wednesday’s debate between Harris and Vice President Mike Pence.

Pollster Frank Luntz conducted a focus group of 15 undecided voters across eight battleground states during the face-off between Harris and Pence at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

“The complaint about Kamala Harris was that she was abrasive and condescending,” said Luntz, according to Fox News.

Luntz said voters had some negatives about Pence as well.

“The complaint about Mike Pence was that he was too tired, but [he was] vice presidential, or presidential,” the pollster said.

The bottom line, though, was that Pence’s solid performance outdid Harris’ antagonistic approach.

“If this is a battle over style and substance — which is often the case with undecided voters because they simply do not choose on policy, they also choose on persona — this was Mike Pence’s night,” Luntz said.

A Democrat senator has admitted Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a suitable choice for the country’s highest court. In an interview with MSNBC Wednesday, Delaware Sen. Chris Coons said he disagrees with Barrett on several major issues, but believes she is equipped to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Coons also remarked on her strongly conservative views by calling them comparable to those held by late Justice Antonin Scalia. He said he looked forward to interviewing her during the confirmation process.

“I’ve been reading her opinions and law review articles, and I’m increasingly convinced that she’s even more conservative than Justice Scalia for whom she clerked on the Supreme Court,” he stated. “And she has demonstrated a willingness to reverse long-settled precedent…I think she is qualified as a judge, I think she’s going to be an engaging candidate.”

Coons went on to admit his reluctance to see her confirmed did not originate in her qualifications, but in his personal politics stating “what matters is how she will change the balance on the court.”
