Defense Minister and Alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz on Thursday called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prepare a state budget for 2021, accusing the premier of violating agreements between them and urging him not to "harm the citizens of Israel."

In August, the Knesset passed legislation that allowed the government to postpone approving the state budget for next year after disagreements between Netanyahu's Likud and Gantz's Kahol Lavan nearly drove the country to a fourth election in less than two years.

CDC CHANGES ITS MIND AGAIN: COVID-19 IS ‘SOMETIMES’ AIRBORNE

Because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cannot just give a straight answer or provide people with the truth, they have said the “smartest virus on Earth” is sometimes airborne. COVID-19 is apparently, not always airborne, but it can be.

If this makes no sense to you, you’re not alone. The agency is once again claiming that the coronavirus can be airborne, but that it is not the main method of transmission. This is from a mainstream media source, and even they are feeling like this is a mixed message:

For the third time in less than a month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has altered its guidance on how Covid-19 spreads. The agency said Monday that airborne transmission is possible, but that it’s not the most common way the virus travels from person to person — a position that was published and then removed from its website in September. –NBC News

They are desperately trying to push that this virus is contagious even with more than six feet of distance.

The CDC updated its page on the spread of virus Monday to say that “some infections can be spread by exposure to the virus in small droplets and particles that can linger in the air for minutes to hours.”

Those small droplets and particles in turn may be able to infect people who are farther than 6 feet away “from the person who is infected or after that person has left the space.” –NBC News

The coronavirus is the most intelligent virus on Earth apparently.

On Monday, the CDC issued a statement on the latest set of transmission guidelines, acknowledging “the existence of some published reports showing limited, uncommon circumstances where people with Covid-19 infected others who were more than 6 feet away or shortly after the COVID-19-positive person left an area.”

“In these instances,” the statement said, “transmission occurred in poorly ventilated and enclosed spaces that often involved activities that caused heavier breathing, like singing or exercise.”

This could be leading up to another lockdown, especially as we see positive cases rising all over the United States.

Military Experts Say Cal Cunningham’s Adultery Poses a Blackmail Risk, Could ‘Jeopardize a Unit’

Military legal experts say Democrat North Carolina Senate candidate Army Reserve Lt. Col. Cal Cunningham’s recently-disclosed extramarital affair with a veteran’s wife poses a huge security risk because of the potential for blackmail.

Experts say that foreign intelligence services spend a lot of their time looking for compromising material on U.S. service members in hopes of being able to blackmail them for information, and Cunningham’s previously-secret extramarital affair would have put him at high risk.

Attorney and Army veteran Tod Leaven told the Citizen-Times in an interview this week that the Uniform Code of Military Justice’s (UCMJ) ban on adultery is meant to guard against service members being potentially blackmailed.

“Affairs are so sensitive, and people do really, really stupid stuff to try to hide an affair and that could just jeopardize a unit,” he told the paper.

A retired Special Operations Command colonel who wished to speak on background said that it was not the affair itself that put him at risk but the act of hiding it.

“The problem is hiding it makes you a security risk, because you’re subject to blackmail. Hostile intelligence services dream of finding a guy like this,” the retired colonel said.

“They dream of finding a guy who’s hiding an illicit affair like that, because he can be kicked out of the Army and lose everything, or he can cooperate with them and they’ll give him money…so it makes him a massive security risk,” the retired colonel added.

Last week, NationalFile.com published text messages Cunningham, a 47-year-old married father of two, sent to a married public relations executive named Arlene Guzman Todd, 36. The text messages were sexual in nature, and since their disclosure, she has confirmed to the Associated Press that they engaged in an extramarital affair at Cunningham’s family home.

Cunningham is running for North Carolina’s U.S. Senate seat against incumbent Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC). Cunningham has made his military service and devotion to his family key components of his campaign.

For now, Cunningham is insisting on staying in the race to become a U.S. senator despite reports of more damaging information to come.

The U.S. Army Reserve confirmed Wednesday it is investigating Cunningham, and it is not clear what else may be found or what else he may have kept hidden.

Cunningham is no ordinary military reservist — he is a senior military lawyer who serves in the Army Reserve’s 134th Legal Operations Detachment at Fort Bragg, which is home to the Army’s elite special operations units.

UK Gov't Endangers National Security by Putting Profit Before Safety on Huawei Issue, MPs Say

Five months after allowing Huawei’s partial involvement in the top-tier British 5G network, the move was reversed, following sustained pressure from Washington and a revolt by a number of Tories.

The UK is facing a danger of exposure to espionage by other countries because the government has been putting profit before the safety of its people in the nation’s telecommunication infrastructure, according to a Commons Defence Committee report cited by the Independent.

Several MPs say that, despite a belated decision on Huawei in July, the country continues to experience serious problems in national security. The document adds that the nation is being victimized by certain practices that are allowed by the government, making the UK vulnerable to hostile actions by adversaries, the Committee maintains.

“The current situation has led to commercial concerns trumping those of national security, which is unacceptable. The government should not allow a situation where short-term commercial considerations are placed ahead of those for national security and defence,” the report reads.

Regulations meant to deal with the issue “lack teeth” and a failure to update needed measures “would be a gross dereliction of duty,” it states, further dwelling on the Telecoms Security Bill, which is “required to bring regulations up to date and to allow the government to compel operators to act in the interests of security.”

The committee adds that the current regulatory situation for network security “is outdated and unsatisfactory.”

The Committee stresses that there has been an urgent need for the D-10 group of the world’s largest democracies to arrive at an alternative to large Chinese manufacturers, among which Huawei is ranked first, taking the second spot in international shipments, after Samsung.

The MPs note that the UK's profit before people approach earlier permitted Chinese tech giant Huawei’s limited involvement in the build-up of British 5G networks, the only country in the Five Eyes group - which also comprises the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand - to do so.

However, this July, following severe pressure from Washington and Tory MPs citing security concerns, the UK backtracked on the move and stopped the Chinese smartphone manufacturer from participating in the nation's telecom infrastructure.

Opponents, primarily in the form of the Trump administration, accuse Huawei of installing back doors in its software and hardware as a means of allowing intelligence assets in Beijing to spy on Huawei clients in the UK and beyond. Both company management and Beijing have denied the allegations many times, claiming their networks are transparent while welcoming independent investigation into Huawei products.

The 1804 Northern Secession Plot and the Founding Fathers of the Deep State

Hamilton vs. Burr

As I mentioned in my recent paper on Alexander Hamilton’s Genius, America’s first U.S. Treasury Secretary killed by Aaron Burr (aka: the father of Wall Street) in 1804, was indispensable in the young nation’s survival during the first 30 years after 1776. Even though it hasn’t been taught in any western university in generations, Hamilton’s system of political economy which arose from his four reports of 1791 was premised on the practices of 1) national banking, 2) productive credit generation for long term internal improvements, 3) industrial growth (vs slave-based production) and 4) protective tariffs. Most importantly, this system set “economic value” not upon the worship of money but rather on the creative mental activity of citizens through constant scientific and technological progress.

Between 1776 until his death in 1804, Hamilton used every ounce of his influence to ensure that the many traitorous movements launched by diverse branches of British operations in America (including from his own Federalist Party), and often under the leadership of arch-traitor Aaron Burr, failed to achieve their goals. These operations which included Canadian United Empire Loyalists, New York financiers and southern slave interests, can collectively be defined as the “founding fathers of today’s deep state” which evolved over the years and took over much of the nation after the death of Franklin Roosevelt.

In the Philippines, sex with a 12yo is considered legal if it's consensual. But new laws are set to change that

Rosario Baluyot took seven months to die.

The internal injuries she received from an alleged rape caused a severe infection in her cervix that eventually led to her death in a Philippines hospital.

Her gravestone at Olongapo, north-west of Manila, states that Rosario was just 11 years old when she died in 1987.

But the lack of a birth certificate — or any proof of her age — was one factor that led the court to acquit the man originally charged and convicted of rape with homicide in a country where the age of consent for sex is 12.

Her case has since become the subject of a documentary novel, titled Rosario is Dead, and helped to pave the way for significant legal reforms in the Philippines, including legislation in 1992 to give stronger protection to children from sexual abuse or exploitation.

But those reforms did not include raising the age of consent, which has remained at 12 since it was enshrined in a penal code that was first enacted in the Philippines in 1930.

That could be set to change now, as draft legislation proposes raising the age of consent to 16.

Currently, onus on prosecution to prove child was under 12

Heinrich Stefan Ritter, an Austrian doctor, was initially convicted of Rosario's 'rape with homicide'. He was ordered to pay 'moral and exemplary damages' to her family, and immediately deported and banned from returning.

In his appeal, the defence counsel for Dr Ritter argued that Rosario was 13 — above the age of consent — and that as a child-prostitute who lived on the street, she had willingly submitted to his sexual advances in exchange for money.

In most countries, sexual relations with a 13-year-old would automatically amount to statutory rape.

But not in the Philippines, where an adult can legally have sexual relations with a child as young as 12 and argue that it was consensual.

It is the lowest age of consent in Asia, and the second-lowest in the world after Nigeria where it's 11 — though some African or Middle Eastern countries have no age of consent, but ban sex outside of marriage.

In the case of Rosario, the Philippines Supreme Court ultimately ruled that the onus fell on the prosecution to prove that she was under 12 at the time of the alleged rape.

And they found that ultimately it had failed to do so.

He was acquitted of rape and freed.

Raising the age of consent from 12 to 16

But now, 33 years after Rosario's death, Philippine politicians are finally preparing to pass new legislation to raise the age of consent from 12 to 16.

"This law reform is particularly urgent because the Philippines has such a high prevalence of violence against children," chief of child protection at the UN children's agency UNICEF Patrizia Benvenuti said.

"UNICEF and the child rights community have lobbied and campaigned actively for many years on this issue."

Juan Guaidó Creates a Parallel Consulate in Brazil

A “parallel” Venezuelan Consulate in Brazil was condemned in a recent statement by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza. In late September, supporters of the Venezuelan opposition leader, the self-proclaimed “interim president” Juan Guaidó, announced that they would form a new consulate in Brazil. Basically, the objective is to create a parallel Venezuelan diplomatic representation, which meets the interests of the opposition – which is supported by the Brazilian government. The decision has received strong criticism from the Venezuelan government, which considers it illegal. However, despite the criticism, the consulate is starting its operations this week in the Brazilian state of Roraima – a region strategically chosen because it borders Venezuela.

Jorge Arreaza, head of the Bolivarian government’s foreign relations, reinforced his criticism and published an official statement warning the international community against the activities of the opposition, which he classified as fraudulent. According to Arreaza, there is an attempt to usurp the legitimate consular power of the Venezuelan government – which, in legal terms, is correct, considering that Guaidó is not actually the president of Venezuela.

Guaidó’s initiative in Brazil continues a series of clashes between the government of Jair Bolsonaro and representatives of Nicolás Maduro. Last month, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Venezuelan diplomats as “persona non grata” after setting a deadline in April for them to leave the country – which did not happen due to a later decision by the Supreme Court. Now, with the appointment of new “diplomats” by Juan Guaidó, the situation between both countries is even more tense, since the Brazilian government will publicly recognize the role of the opposition’s parallel diplomatic service, while denying maintaining relations with the Venezuelan official diplomacy.

No specific date has been set for the opening of the parallel consulate, and it has just been announced that from this week on the agency would be fully operational. In fact, Guaidó’s “diplomats” are already acting freely in Brazil and even distributing documents to Venezuelan citizens in Brazilian territory. The Maduro government has already stated that such documents have no validity, but the Brazilian government recognizes the actions and cooperates with the oppositionist Consulate. It is also important to emphasize that the employees of the parallel consulate have no diplomatic training, being political militants chosen by Guaidó to represent his interests in Brazil.

The Religion of Green claims to be backed by science. That is not necessarily a lie, because a lot of scientists are enjoying great success thanks to the Religion of Green. Since the popularization of global warming, climate scientists have risen from occupants of an obscure corner of academia into world-jetting celebrities. For these scientists, worldly fame has displaced scientific investigation. But Amazon is late to the green party. Apple and Chevron have been celebrating the Religion of Green for a long time.

YouTube is one of the last big platforms openly hosting QAnon content after its users were kicked off Facebook and Instagram

Facebook and Instagram conducted their most comprehensive purge of QAnon accounts to date on Tuesday.

The sites removed thousands of accounts spreading the groundless conspiracy that President Trump is secretly battling a cabal of child-abusing elites.

YouTube, though, still hosts thousands of pro-QAnon posts.

"Videos are central to QAnon as video is the most used medium to circulate QAnon content across digital ecosystems," commented Marc-Andre Argentino, an online extremism expert.

YouTube has introduced policies meant to limit disinformation, but has only been partially successful in enforcing them.

In the past, YouTube's algorithms pushed extremist content to thousands of viewers, but the site said it is changing them,

The QAnon conspiracy movement suffered a serious blow on Tuesday, when Facebook and Instagram removed hundreds of the movement's largest pages, accounts, and groups.

The platforms said they would ban QAnon content, expanding a policy that had previously tolerated QAnon posts as long as they were non-violent.

However, the movement still has a home on one of the biggest online platforms: YouTube.

And the conspiracy movement will keep spreading online unless YouTube takes action to remove the videos and channels it hosts promoting the conspiracy, experts say.

The site has long been a hub for the movement, where believers promote their theories to tens of thousands of viewers on YouTube channels.

A YouTube spokesman told Business Insider that it had "removed tens of thousands of Q-related videos, and terminated hundreds of Q-related channels for violating our hate and harassment policies since 2018."

Videos claim to unveil a child-abusing elite than runs the world

QAnon videos on the site explore the movement's groundless belief that an elite network of child abusers secretly manipulates world events.

They are widely shared and discussed in private groups on social media, and with thousands of others on platforms like Twitter. The messaging site is another major platform where efforts to limit the conspiracy theory have had only limited success, reported The Washington Post.

The movement, which claims President Donald Trump is secretly working to dismantle the cabal, has been tied to several violent crimes.

The FBI in a memo in 2017 described it as a potential domestic terror threat. Several Republican congressional candidates have openly embraced the conspiracy theory, and in controversial remarks at a press briefing in August Trump said he welcomed its support.

Senior military leaders will have access to same COVID-19 treatments as Trump

With the deputy chiefs of two services testing positive for COVID-19 and many members of the Joint Staff quarantining at home in case of exposure, the head of the Defense Health Agency told Military Times on Thursday that the Defense Department’s health system is ready with therapeutics to treat any serious infections.

While neither Marine Corps Assistant Commandant Gen. Gary Thomas nor Coast Guard Vice Commandant Adm. Charles Ray have been hospitalized, DHA director Army Lt. Gen. Ronald Place said that the military health system has access to the most advanced treatments available, including some of the same medications given to President Donald Trump during his recent stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“We have therapies that either we hold licenses to, or we have use under emergency-use authorizations,” Place said. “The most common of those involve the use of steroids ― dexamethasone is a good example of it ― COVID convalescent plasma ― so the blood plasma of those who have recovered from a prior COVID infection ― and Remdesivir.”

Trump received all three therapies during his weekend hospital stay, later announcing via Twitter he felt well enough to go home on Monday evening.

The military health system also has access to drugs in development, either by requesting them or via suggestions from the makers themselves.

DoD has traced Ray’s and Thomas’s possible exposure back to a meeting in the chairman of the Joint Chiefs' office on Friday. Following Ray’s diagnosis Monday, all who have been in close contact with those who attended that meeting have been in quarantine, per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

“The Marine Corps is following established policies for COVID, per CDC guidelines, to include quarantine and contact tracing,” according to a Wednesday statement. “According to CDC guidelines, any Marine Corps personnel who were in close contact with the general will also quarantine.”

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement Wednesday that no other senior leaders have tested positive.

The Defense Department unveiled Thursday a new "Data Strategy" aimed at treating the vast amounts of information collected across the force as a weapons system for decision-makers from the Pentagon's E-ring to the front lines.

"Data is the ammunition of the future," a defense official said about the strategy to organize data pipelines and speedily harness information for warfighters.

"The principal challenge in the Data Strategy isn't getting the data – the Department has access to vast data reserves," Dana Deasy, the DoD's chief information officer, said in a statement.

The goal is to "build the engine to turn this resource into insight for our service members at the speed of need."

Under Chief Data Officer David Spirk, the DoD's Data Council will be expanded to bring in the combatant commands and field operations to manage the data and make it user-friendly.

Spirk, a former Marine and chief data officer for U.S. Special Operations Command, will have the task of overseeing the council's effort at "making data visible, accessible, understandable, linked, trustworthy, interoperable and secure."

"Data is the ammunition [and] is increasingly central to warfighter advantage on and off the battlefield," Deasy said. "This strategy is our first step to making that ammo persistently available to the men and women of the DoD, regardless of echelon or geographic location."

On background, the defense official said demand for data is constantly increasing but "it's not easy delivering the capability" in an organization saddled with "thousands of legacy systems."

In addition, mindsets will have to be changed to give data "the same attention we give to weapons systems," the official said.

"It's time to turn this into action [by getting data specialists] into the field sitting next to operators" making tactical decisions, the official said. "Our warfighters are counting on us."

The official stressed that the data must be usable, easy to retrieve and understandable at the lowest level, and not just be seen as a tool for the higher echelons.

If the enterprise takes that exclusive approach, "then we're missing the point," the official said. "We definitely are thinking about that lance corporal out there – how to make this real."

The official had no initial cost estimate for the new strategy but said, "If we do this right, a lot of the resources exist right now."

The project is expected to take about a decade, according to the official.

"I would hope it doesn't take us 10 years," the official said. "I think we can accelerate this timeline."

As the motion picture industry begins to death-spiral into oblivion due to the pandemic, attention-starved celebrities are going topless to implore people to avoid 'naked ballots' - due to a law in 16 states which requires voters to insert their mail-in ballots into two separate envelopes in order to be counted.

According to the Wall Street Journal, WarnerMedia is planning a restructuring which would mean thousands of job cuts, as the company seeks to cut costs by as much as 20% in the wake of sagging income from movie sales, cable subscriptions and TV ads, according to 'people familiar with the matter.'

The restructuring would begin within weeks, and would affect employees across Warner Bros. assets such as HBO, TBS and TNT.

The Journal notes that rivals Disney and Comcast have slashed jobs in recent months as their film and TV businesses are similarly struggling.

"Like the rest of the entertainment industry, we have not been immune to the significant impact of the pandemic," said a WarnerMedia spokesman, who added that the company would 'reorder its operations to focus on growth opportunities.' "We are in the midst of that process and it will involve increased investments in priority areas and, unfortunately, reductions in others."

While Warner's TV assets are suffering, their movie business is also sucking wind - after their uber-expensive sci-flick "Tenet" flipped, leading the studio to push "Wonder Woman 1984" from an October release to the end of the year.

Meanwhile, "Dune," which was supposed to premiered during the holidays has been bumped until next year at the soonest, while "The Batman" has similarly been bumped from 2021 to 2022.

The layoffs will mark the second wave of job cuts, after WarnerMedia handed out over 500 pink slips in August.

And while nobody knows the exact size of WarnerMedia's workforce, its predecessor employed around 26,000 people before AT&T acquired them in 2018 for approximately $85 billion. By the end of June, AT&T's headcount was 243,000.

FBI Thwarts Anarchist Plot to Kidnap and Kill Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer – Whitmer Blames Trump

The FBI announced on Thursday during a press conference that it thwarted a plot by a so-called “right-wing militia” to kidnap and kill Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and overthrow the state government.

Early Thursday morning, federal agencies raided a house in Hartland, Michigan and arrested six men: Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, Daniel Harris, and Brandon Caserta.

“All of us in Michigan can disagree about politics, but those disagreements should never, ever amount to violence,” said Matthew Schneider, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. “Violence has been prevented today.”

US Attorney Andrew Birge said the anarchists were planning to kidnap Whitmer from her vacation home before the Nov. election.

The FBI became aware of the plot through discussions on social media in early 2020, however they decided to pull the trigger today (interesting timing).

The six men spent months practicing their plot with other militia members.

Adam Fox wanted to try Whitmer for “treason” according to law enforcement.

Whitmer immediately blamed the plot on President Trump telling the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by.”

“Hate groups heard the president’s words as a rallying cry, as a call to action,” Whitmer said.

The Proud Boys had nothing to do with the plot to kill her and overthrow the state government.

One of the men arrested in the plot is an anarchist.

Brandon Caserta is one of the ringleaders of the group of men arrested for a plot where the group planned to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Caserta has an anarchist flag behind him and in YouTube videos trashes police.

Seventh Circuit Court Blocks Wisconsin Delayed Absentee Ballot Deadline

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday blocked the Democrat’s attempt to delay counting ballots received up until the 9th of November — a week after the election.

This is a HUGE blow to the Democrat Party’s attempts to sow doubt and confusion in the November presidential election.

A federal appeals court on Thursday blocked a decision to extend the deadline for counting absentee ballots in battleground Wisconsin, in a win for Republicans who have fought attempts to expand voting across the country.

If the ruling stands, absentee ballots will have to be delivered to Wisconsin election clerks by 8 p.m. on Election Day if they are to be counted. Results of the presidential race in the pivotal swing state would be known within hours of polls closing.

Democrats almost certainly will appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Under state law, absentee ballots are due in local clerks’ offices by 8 p.m. on election night, but Democrats and allied groups sued to extend the deadline after the April presidential primary saw long lines, fewer polling places, a shortage of poll workers and thousands of ballots mailed days after the election.

U.S. District Judge William Conley ruled last month that any ballots that arrive in clerk’s offices by Nov. 9 will be counted, as long as they are postmarked by Election Day on Nov. 3.

QAnon Conspiracies Are Taking Over Canadian Conservatism

The group exploded onto the news cycle in July when a man smashed his pickup truck through the gates in front of Rideau Hall.

It may be tempting to laugh at Michael Caputo, the top communications official at the United States’ Health and Services Department, who recently accused Center for Disease Control scientists of “sedition” and predicted a socialist uprising would follow the November election.

“Remember the Trump supporter who was shot and killed [in Portland late last month]? That was a drill,” Caputo declared in a bizarre, hyper-paranoid broadcast on Facebook Live on September 13. He added: “If you carry guns, buy ammunition, ladies and gentlemen, because it’s going to be hard to get.”

Canadians often watch with fascination as American conspiracy theorists embarrass themselves. It’s certainly tempting to boastfully tell ourselves that intrigue inventories such as QAnon, which Caputo indirectly referenced in his rant, won’t gain a foothold here.

The thing is, it already has. And the mysterious Q — an alleged U.S. government insider who surfaced on the murky 4chan platform in 2017 with claims that Satanic forces were attempting to overthrow President Donald Trump and his administration — has drawn a following in Canada.

QAnon exploded onto the news cycle in July when Manitoba resident Corey Hurren smashed his pickup truck through the wrought-iron gates in front of Rideau Hall, the grounds currently hosting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family, who weren’t home at the time.

Carrying an illegal rifle, revolver and a prohibited magazine of ammunition, Hurren was apprehended after a two-hour stand-off with police. In a two-page letter shared with Global News by an unnamed, Hurren raved that Trudeau was turning Canada into a “Communist country.” Foreign Policy magazine called this the “most high-profile action inspired by QAnon.”

That Hurren was a member of the Canadian Rangers — he even won an award from the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery — isn’t exactly surprising. Multiple investigations have revealed numerous adherents to far-right ideologies or groups within the military, including the Three Percenters and Soldiers of Odin, who have marched in an anti-mask rally alongside QAnon followers.

But even more troubling is QAnon’s infiltration of Canada’s political sphere.

In 2018, a year after coming just short in his bid to lead the Conservative Party of Canada, Maxime Bernier shared a “must watch video” to Twitter that featured a prominent QAnon YouTuber. A few days later he tweeted about a “future world government” — a trademark Q tenet — that would “destroy Canada.”

Body found in search for missing Brisbane Federal Circuit Court judge Guy Andrew

The body of Brisbane Federal Circuit Court judge Guy Andrew is believed to have been found five days after he went missing.

Queensland Police said just after 8pm on Thursday that the body of a missing 55-year-old man had been found, but did not confirm his identity.

Federal Circuit Court of Australia Chief Judge William Alstergren has released a statement that confirmed Judge Andrew's death and paid tribute to him.

"His Honour will be remembered as a fine, highly respected barrister and a diligent and determined judge who lived a life of service to others and to the law," Justice Alstergren said, according to the Brisbane Times.

"The esteem in which he was held was evident by the large number of judges, barristers, solicitors, associates and other Court staff who took an active part in the search for him.

"His tragic passing is a timely reminder of the extraordinary pressure on all who practice in the often highly emotive family law jurisdiction.

"This pressure can be exacerbated by appointment.

850 NBN staff paid more than $200,000 amid government pay crackdown

More than 850 employees at the national broadband network are paid above $200,000 a year with more than three-quarters of its workforce earning six-figure salaries, new data has revealed, amid growing scrutiny from the federal government on public sector wages.

The $51 billion taxpayer-funded organisation, under fire for paying bonuses to its executive team during the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, has confirmed 110 of its workers are paid between $300,000 and $400,000 and 34 received base salaries above $400,000 before bonuses.

It can also be revealed NBN Co spent $265,000 on entertainment and function expenses between February and June at the height of the coronavirus pandemic this year when millions of Australians were unable to travel, socialise in groups or go to restaurants and cafes.

The NBN Co was given an extra $4.5 billion in the federal budget on Tuesday for an upgrade by 2023 to improve the speeds available. Another $29.2 million was provided to accelerate the rollout of ultra-fast 5G mobile networks.

New figures, provided to a Senate committee, show that as of September 9 this year 4859 of its 6300 employees were paid in excess of $100,000 a year, including 733 workers on salaries worth between $200,000 and $300,000.

An NBN Co spokesman said staff were employed under individually negotiated contracts, enterprise agreements and other commercial arrangements.

"In order to remain competitive and attract and retain critical talent to the organisation, NBN Co benchmarks senior executive remuneration against other telecommunications companies, although the remuneration … is more aligned to the more modest ratio of comparable government business enterprises, rather than that of listed entities," he said.

The spokesman said the network and its employees were also accountable for corporate expenses and "aware of our corporate expense policies".

He said this budget includes community engagement functions, which were maintained during the pandemic, as well as hotels and food for staff on business trips.

The spokesman said travel and events expenses were reduced during this period with the amount incurred equating "to an average monthly expense of approximately $8 per month, per employee".

The rollout of the network finished earlier this year and the NBN Co has revealed plans to reduce its staffing levels to 5500 by the end of 2020, leaving 800 people redundant.

Labor's government accountability spokeswoman Kimberley Kitching said NBN Co was the new "millionaires factory".

"NBN Co employs public servants who take no private-sector risk, but are given multimillion-dollar rewards," Senator Kitching said.

There are 877 NBN workers earning about the same or more than the base salary of a backbencher, which was $211,250 on July 1.

The technology provider came under fire earlier this month over the potential payment of millions of dollars in bonuses to senior executives this year. CEO Stephen Rue received a $1.7 million salary package in 2019 and an extra $828,000 in short-term incentives.

Other publicly-funded executives are also under pressure after the Morrison government told the board of directors of Australia Post to veto more than $7 million of bonuses at the same time as the nation faces the worst recession in more than 90 years.

UK Seizes $13 Million in Unexplained Wealth From Businessman

In what is being described as a landmark case, the U.K.’s National Crime Agency, NCA, relied on an Unexplained Wealth Order to seize millions in property and assets from a businessman with alleged ties to organized crime.

Despite not having been convicted of a crime himself, Mansoor ‘Manni’ Mahmood Hussain, a 40-year-old residing in Leeds, was required to submit a 76-page statement to the NCA to explain how he amassed his multi-million dollar real estate empire – which inadvertently helped NCA build an even bigger case against him, it said in a press release on Wednesday.

“Hussain, who has links to a murderer jailed for 26 years, an armed robber and a convicted fraudster who acted as his accountant, used threats of violence and blackmail to buy his properties,” the NCA said.

The NCA was able to uncover this evidence through an Unexplained Wealth Order, a mechanism introduced in the U.K. in January of 2018, which forces investigated individuals to explain their assets if they appear disproportionate to their income.

Graeme Biggar, NCA Director General of the National Economic Crime Centre, said that “this case is a milestone, demonstrating the power of Unexplained Wealth Orders, with significant implications for how we pursue illicit finance in the U.K..

“This groundbreaking investigation has recovered millions of pounds worth of criminally obtained property. It is crucial for the economic health of local communities such as Leeds, and for the country as a whole, that we ensure property and other assets are held legitimately.

This asset recovery of roughly 10 million pounds (US$13 Million) was the first one that has been obtained solely based on an individual's alleged involvement in serious organized crime, the NCA said.

Politicians from multiple parties expressed praise for the successful asset seizure, and the potential Unexplained Wealth Orders have for going after illicit finance.

Margaret Hodge, a UK Labour Party Member of Parliament for Banking said on Twitter that it was “fantastic to see the first Unexplained Wealth Order success story.”

She said that they are “a vital tool in the fight against money laundering” and that law enforcement agencies “must continue to use this weapon to crack down on our dirty money crisis.”

James Brokenshire, a former member of parliament for the conservative party also called the news “fantastic,” and said that he “strongly support[s] work to protect the U.K. economy and our communities from criminally financed assets and property.”

Europol: COVID-19 Causes Spike in Cybercrime

As the coronavirus pandemic forced many to work from home, criminals seem to have adapted to the new situation and are also increasingly working remotely and causing an upward trend in cyber crime, according to Europol's Internet Organised Crime Threat Assessment, IOCTA, for 2020.

“During the lockdown, we turned to the internet for a sense of normality: shopping, working and learning online at a scale never seen before,” Europol said in a press release accompanying the report. “Although the COVID-19 crisis showed us how criminals actively take advantage of society at its most vulnerable, this opportunistic behaviour of criminals should not overshadow the overall threat landscape. In many cases, COVID-19 has enhanced existing problems.”

Social engineering and phishing attacks remain two of the most common crimes on the web, according to Europol. With an elderly and often non-tech savvy population unexpectedly thrust into remote work, that type of crime has become all the more lucrative.

“Criminals quickly exploited the pandemic to attack vulnerable people; phishing, online scams and the spread of fake news became an ideal strategy for cyber criminals seeking to sell items they claim will prevent or cure COVID-19,” said Europol.

Ransomware, however, is still one of the most terrifying tools at a cyber criminal’s disposal.

With the increase in remote working, especially amongst essential public service, health and safety workers, keeping virtual networks running smoothly is of the utmost importance. With a ransomware attack, cyber criminals can hijack an online system’s ability to operate and hold it hostage, while demanding a significant ransom.

“The clear majority of law enforcement respondents named ransomware as a top priority threat,” said the IOCTA report. “Considering the scale of damage that ransomware can inflict, victims also appear to be reluctant to come forward to law enforcement authorities or the public when they have been victimised, which makes it more difficult to identify and investigate such cases.”

The importance of the healthcare infrastructure amidst the pandemic makes hospitals and other public services lucrative targets, while the increasingly remote workforce, operating from less secure home computers, has become increasingly vulnerable.

The IOCTA report also found that the rise of cryptocurrencies, with their less traceable nature, has made them the choice currency for cyber criminals to demand ransoms and payments for their illicit activities.

Suburban Chicago couple charged with child labor trafficking

CHICAGO — A suburban Chicago couple was charged in federal court Thursday with child labor trafficking, for allegedly forcing an illegal alien teen from Guatemala to work for them. The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Department of Labor, with significant assistance from the Aurora, Illinois, police department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Santos Teodoro AC-Salazar, 23, and Olga Choc Laj, 30, both of Aurora, Illinois, are charged with using force, threats of force and threatening abuse of the law and legal process in order to force the minor female to comply.

Court documents allege Choc Laj accompanied the teenage victim to the United States from Guatemala, having given false identification to U.S. border authorities to illegally smuggle her into the country. The charges further allege that once in the U.S., Choc Laj harbored the victim at her Illinois residence and forced the victim to provide labor and services for Choc Laj’s financial gain. AC-Salazar is alleged to have later joined Choc Laj in their residence and participated in the labor trafficking by, among other things, forcing the victim to perform household chores, including taking care of the defendants’ infant child.

The public is reminded that charges are not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The charges in the complaint are punishable by up to 20 years in federal prison. If convicted, the court must impose a reasonable sentence under federal statutes and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
