Here is the wording out of the SES Plum books that proves that President Trump cannot fire SES members. Believe it. Check this stuff out yourself. Focus your frustration on the evil ones, not on the truth tellers.

“By law, the appointment to or removal from any SES position in an independent regulatory commission shall not be subject, directly or indirectly, to review or appoval by an officer or entity within the Executive Office of the President.” (p. 218k, last paragraph).

It should be pointed out that this phrase “independent regulatory commission” is impossibly vague and is never defined in the document. This is a classic lawyer trick. That way, it can mean whatever they want it to mean later. Earlier, the Plum Book had said in equally squishy categories that all SES agencies were independent (“Career Reserved when the need to ensure impartiality…”). And of course, all agencies are regulatory.

So, this rule is open ended. It means whatever the interpreters and arbiters want it to mean. They’ll interpret it in your favor if they like you, and the opposite if they don’t.

The only avenues of appeal are the inspectors general inside these agencies who are all, you guessed it, SES members. They specifically ruled out the President and his office from their hiring and firing, as this passage reinforces.
