Has been a long time since I have done any physics work as a studentfag. Here is my thinking. The debris is moving at the same velocity as the plane at the time of the explosion. So basically, the plane, engine, and debris are relatively still in relation to each other. The debris does have a chance to move towards the plane.

Kek. I was saying debris from the explosion could hit the window of the plane. It is relevant that all pieces had a vector of speed and direction identical at the moment before the explosion occurred. At the time of explosion the debris now had an additional vector of speed and direction. Go back to your common core.
