cousin is a teacher for a stem type school in midwest area 9th and 10th graders. last night we were catching up and the info she gave me was horrifying. she said 80% of her students haven't shown up to one virtual class. these kids are all given laptops and supposed to go into the google classrom during specific class time. none of the kids have their video on, so she sees a black screen, and most never talk. all assignments were for completion so far and only a few kids are passing. not because they did poorly/got the wrong answer, but because they just aren't doing it and aren't showing up to class. most of them tested at 3rd grade math level. this whole virtual learning for people in low income areas with single parents that have to work to pay the bills are being denied the advantage of GOING to school. it's very fucked up.

also she can look at what any single student is doing pretty much whenever she wants to. seems like most of the kids she has looked at just open up their school tabs and ignore those n watch netflix instead or hang out with kids who live near them that are also doing virtual learning. aka stoopkids if u know what i mean.
