Now Biden Says Filling Ginsburg Seat 'Not Constitutional' - And Americans Don't 'Deserve To Know' If He'll Pack Court

Update (1617ET): In the latest round of malarkey over whether or not Biden will pack the Supreme Court (he will), the former Vice President confidently said on Saturday that filling the current vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court is unconstitutional.

"Look, the only court-packing is going on right now. It’s going on with the Republicans packing the court now. It’s not constitutional what they’re doing," said Biden while traveling to Pennsylvania for a campaign stop.

"The fact is that the only packing going on is this court is being packed now by the Republicans after the vote has already begun," he added. "I’m going to stay focused on it so we don’t take our eyes off the ball here."

As Politico's Jake Sherman asks: "What's not constitutional here?"

Will some brave journalist ask Biden to elaborate?

Update (1500ET): On the insaneness of modern politics amplifier, things just went to '11', when presidential candidate Joe Biden told a reporter, who asked him the question everyone wants answered currently - "will you stack the courts?" - that voters "don't deserve" to know his stance until after the election…

Rising COVID cases take Europe and US off the travel list for next year

Australians should take Europe and the United States off their travel list for the whole of next year if there is no coronavirus vaccine, with Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham declaring the Morrison government's priority was to establish travel bubbles with "other low-risk nations".

Many European countries experienced huge spikes in new COVID-19 cases last week, making it less likely the continent will get a handle on the global pandemic as it heads into winter.

But Senator Birmingham revealed Australians could be travelling to New Zealand by the end of the year, which will then be used as a blueprint to open up to other countries in Asia and the Pacific.

Asked whether Australians would be able to travel to the rest of the world at any point next year, Senator Birmingham said the government wanted to reopen travel in and out of the country but "it can't be done at the expense of our health and economic strength at home".

"We are beginning to open up to New Zealand because of their similarly strong COVID outcomes and it may be possible to do likewise with other low risk nations," he said.

"However, the prospects of opening up widespread travel with higher risk countries will remain very reliant on effective vaccination or other major breakthroughs in the management of COVID."

With New South Wales and the Northern Territory to begin accepting New Zealand arrivals from October 16, Senator Birmingham confirmed the plan was to establish two-way travel with that country before the end of 2020.

"Work continues on how we can facilitate two-way COVID-safe travel between Australia and New Zealand, and I hope that we can see a reciprocal arrangement of quarantine-free travel with New Zealand by the year's end," Senator Birmingham said.

"Our arrangement with New Zealand will provide a blueprint to prove up the model of how we run safe corridors – green lanes of international visitors coming in and out of Australia - and whether this can be extended to other similarly low risk countries down the track.

"We will also work with health experts on how the rollout of any vaccine will facilitate further international travel."

A decision by New Zealand on whether to open up and allow quarantine-free travel from Australia will likely be made after the October 17 national election.

To participate in the New Zealand travel bubble, Victoria would have to prove it doesn't meet the federal government's definition of a "hot spot": a three-day rolling average of three locally acquired cases, per day, over three days.

Private Security Company Seeking Armed Veterans to Guard Minnesota Polling Sites

A private security company is seeking armed veterans to guard Minnesota polling sites against left-wing activists on Election Day.

The recruiting effort is being conducted by Tennessee-based company Atlas Aegis, which was formed last year and is an entirely military-veteran run organization, according to its website.

Anthony Caudle, the company chairman, posted a listing through a defense industry job site this week seeking former Special Operations forces to staff “security positions in Minnesota during the November Election and beyond to protect election polls, local businesses, and residences from looting and destruction.”

According to the job advertisement, the positions will last “well beyond the elections” with 15 to 30 hours of work a week and a salary and per diem reimbursement of $910 a day. Special Operations forces experience is required for the positions.

Caudle said in an interview with the Washington Post this week that he is planning to deploy a “large contingent” to Minnesota but did not specify how many people he would send.

Democrat Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said Friday that he and other elections officials “strongly” discouraged “this unnecessary interference in Minnesota’s elections, which we have not asked for and do not welcome.”

“Federal law and state law are both clear: No one may interfere with or intimidate a voter at a polling place,” he said. “The presence of armed outside contractors at polling places would constitute intimidation and violate the law. I request this company cease and desist any planning and stop making any statements about engaging in this activity.”

Minnesota election laws bar private security or other related groups or individuals from entering polling places, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon told the Star Tribune Friday.

“We are actively working with state and federal law enforcement to ensure that these laws are strictly enforced, as they always have been,” Simon told the Tribune.

“In addition, our 30,000 election judges at nearly 3,000 polling places are well-trained on those laws. Any outside effort to supplement election judges or local law enforcement is counterproductive, unwelcome, and possibly unlawful,” he added.

‘Mansion Maxine’: Joe Collins Launches Ad Ripping Maxine Waters for Not Living in Her District

Republican Joe Collins, a Navy veteran challenging Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters in California’s 43rd Congressional District, launched a campaign ad Saturday blasting the congresswoman for residing outside the district she represents while her constituents “suffer the consequences” of her policies.

“Maxine does not live in her district. But I do. I was born right here in South L.A., in a place Maxine refuses to live,” Collins says. “Maxine Waters does not drink our water. She does not breathe our air. And while she sits here in her mansion, our district is in ruins.”

Do you know where I am?

Maxine Waters’ $6 Million Mansion.

Do you know where I’m NOT?

Her District.

Mansion Maxine Waters doesn’t live in her District — I do.

My name is Joe Collins and I’m running for Congress against Maxine Waters.

— Joe E. Collins III For Congress CA-43 (@joecollins43rd) October 10, 2020

Collins begins the ad by introducing Waters’ multimillion-dollar home, which is located just outside the 43rd District’s boundary in the wealthy area of Hancock Park.

Collins then proceeds to walk through the district he is campaigning to represent, highlighting the challenges the district has continued to face for decades as a result, he claims, of the policies of Waters, who has served in Congress for over 40 years.

“And why doesn’t Maxine Waters want to live in her own district? Because she doesn’t want to suffer the consequences of her own policies,” Collins says, pointing to spikes in deadly crime, a massive homeless population, and lacking education opportunities specifically for Latino and black school-aged children.

Collins then shifts to the issue of the protests and riots that have plagued cities nationwide since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in May. Waters has said in response to the demonstrations that the law enforcement “tradition” has to be “done away with,” and posed the question in August of when the police would “stop killing black people.”

Collins criticizes Waters’ position on police reform as hypocritical, saying, “Maxine sits safe in her mansion, guarded by the same police she demonizes.”

“Maxine has never had to deal with violence or riots in her neighborhood,” Collins continues. “But this is the way the rest of us live. We need someone to represent us who lives here, who fights here, who wants to improve our way of life. Someone who understands we need safe streets and a strong economy.”

“I was one of the kids left behind by Maxine Waters. I’m going to fight for safety and dignity for South L.A. … Where has Maxine Waters been? Our people deserve better,” he concludes.
