Michigan state attorney says other groups planning terrorism, more arrests expected
State Attorney General Dana Nessel said groups and individuals inside and outside Michigan were planning acts of domestic terrorism and using the unrest surrounding COVID-19 and police brutality protests to recruit more members.
In a spate of national television interviews Thursday and Friday, Nessel said she expected more arrests would be made but said it was unlikely those individuals are linked to the specific group at issue in the kidnapping plot against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
She noted her department’s investigations involve right-wing groups, but no antifa or left-wing groups.
“There remains a number of individuals, a number of groups that are out there and that continue to plan attacks of domestic terrorism, not just in Michigan but in a multi-jurisdictional fashion across many states,” Nessel told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Thursday.
“This is not just a Michigan problem. This is now an American problem.”

China’s unpopularity hits historic highs in many countries, says Pew Research poll
Unfavorable views of China have soared to historic highs in many countries in a new global poll by Pew Research Center, with the highest in Australia.
A majority of those polled in each of the 14 advanced economies had negative views of China. But in nine of them, China’s unpopularity was at the highest Pew had recorded since it started tracking this subject more than a decade ago– in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, Spain, Sweden and South Korea.
A median of 73% of those polled in 14 countries (Belgium, Japan, Italy, Denmark and France in addition to the nine named above) had unfavorable views of China.
Australians had soured the most, with 81%, going up by 24 points over 2019; the last year has seen a sharp deterioration in ties between the two countries. Negatives views of China went up by double digits in the last one year in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, the US, South Korea and Spain.
And China’s handling of the Coronavirus epidemic appeared to be central to its record unpopularity. A median of 61% of the respondents across all 14 countries polled said China had done a bad job dealing with the epidemic, worse in every case than their own country and global bodies such as WHO.

US budget deficit reaches staggering $3.1 trillion
The latest federal budget figures estimate a staggering $3.1 trillion deficit for fiscal year 2020, an amount that more than tripled last year’s shortfall.
The Congressional Budget Office published their Monthly Budget Review earlier this week, stating that the deficit is an estimated 15.2 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) – the largest gap since 1945.
This year also marked the fifth consecutive year where the deficit increased as a percentage of GDP. Still, the $3.1 trillion deficit is $180 billion less than the shortfall the CBO initially predicted. Revenues increased by $123 billion and spending was $56 billion less than expected.
According to the CBO, fiscal year 2020 can be divided into two periods: before and after the “economic disruption” caused by state and local government responses to the coronavirus pandemic. In the first half of 2020, the deficit was roughly eight percent larger than the deficit during the same period in 2019. For the final six months, April through September, the deficit was eight times larger than the deficit for the second half of fiscal year 2019.
The substantial increase is more than twice as big as the previous record of $1.4 trillion, recorded in 2009 during former President Barack Obama’s first year in office.

Ghanbari said that residents, as well as merchants and shoppers at the market, were among the victims.
A gas leak triggered an explosion followed by a large fire inside a clinic in Tehran in June, killing 19 people and injuring 14.
