H-1B Supporters Denounce Wage-Boosting Regulations

Advocates for the H-1B visa-worker program are protesting the wage increases required by President Donald Trump’s deputies, saying the raises will sharply reduce hiring of the foreign workers.

The labor department “requires the employers to agree to pay foreign workers significantly higher than the market rate—which would prevent many employers from seeking foreign talent in the first place,” said a report by the pro-migration American Immigration Council.

Bloomberg reported:

“It is an earthquake for the H-1B program right now,” said Nandini Nair, immigration partner at Greenspoon Marder LLP in Edison, N.J. Employers looking to renew H-1B visas for workers could see a $30,000 to $40,000 increase in those workers’ wages. “They cannot afford that, that is not something that is sustainable for many employers that I have spoken to,” she said.

The protests show that “the entire H-1B project has been nothing but cheap [labor for] tech,” said Kevin Lynn, founder of U.S. Tech Workers.

“The fact that they would say increasing the wages of the H-1B workers will result in an exodus of H-1Bs from the United States and an increase in [job] offshoring, demonstrates that for the entire time since 1990, the purpose of the H-1B program was to bring in cheap labor — and I emphasize cheap labor — to displace Americans college-grads,” said Lynn, who is encouraging Trump’s deputies to tout their reforms of the H-1B program in the 2020 campaign.

The complaints are higher wages are coming from many people who gain from the increased use of the H-1B temporary visa workers.

“The Department of Labor’s wage rule should be understood as an attempt to price many H-1B professionals out of the U.S. labor market,” complained Stuart Anderson, the director of the pro-migration National Foundation for American Policy.

Anderson calculated that a 2020 salary for imported, inexperienced H-1B “medical scientist” in Boston would jump from $53,810 up to $86,622 under Trump’s rules — and the employer would also have to pay the legal costs of importing the foreign worker.

The new wage calculator is posted at the labor department’s Foreign Labor Certification Data Center.

For example, an employer in Detroit who wants to hire a foreign mechanical engineer will now have to offer $92,830 a year to a new graduate, or $135,990 a year to an experienced, mid-career graduate.

“These regulations will lay the groundwork for the pricing out of foreign labor, which is essential to the solvency of countless American businesses,” said Benjamin Johnson, the executive director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

The science employers at U.S. universities are also concerned that they will have to pay higher wages to their imported lab-workers. Law360.com reported:

Miriam Feldblum, executive director of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education, stressed that the higher salary levels could pose a challenge to universities that depend on highly educated international researchers on H-1B visas.

“Big science cannot be done without international students and scholars and professors. Just look at the vaccine research and who’s involved,” she said, referring to the race to develop a coronavirus vaccine at universities across the U.S.

Sacha Baron Cohen Rips Twitter With Mock Borat Account, Ridiculing Trump

Sacha Baron Cohen has portrayed the fictional Borat - a journalist from Kazakhstan who travels to the United States to study its culture and meet its people - in a self-titled movie, which is expecting a sequel in 2020.

The actor behind the role of the Kazakh journalist Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen, has joined Twitter as his character, rolling out a series of ironic tweets written in the Borat style and spelling.

The verified account, named @BoratSagdiev, emerged on Twitter shortly after the 1 October release of the trailer for the Borat film sequel. Apparently, the fictional Borat character outed himself as a Trump supporter - of course, apart from being "536 moons" old and the "#4 journalist Repubic of Kazakhstan".

"Trump delivered powerful message to 20,000 of his supporters then told them to go back to their communities and spread what they got from him", one of the tweets said, mocking a recent public speech by Trump, who was revealed to have been infected by coronavirus last week.

Trump delivered powerful message to 20,000 of his supporters then told them to go back to their communities and spread what they got from him

— Borat (@BoratSagdiyev) October 10, 2020

Premiere Trump just appear on Whitehouse balcony where he took off his mask and threw into crowd for one lucky patriot to wear!

— Borat (@BoratSagdiyev) October 10, 2020

Trump correct, there were many thousands of people cheering outside hospital when they knew he was dying inside

— Borat (@BoratSagdiyev) October 10, 2020

"Borat" largely ridicules Trump's health and his administration's response to the pandemic, "praising" Trump for being stronger than 200,000 of his American "subjects", those people who have died as a result of becoming infected in the pandemic.

Premiere Trump true leader - he have prove himself stronger than more than 200,000 of his American subjects!

— Borat (@BoratSagdiyev) October 10, 2020

The account was opened with a popular TikTok challenge in which "Borat" waves his leg and is edited to change his outfit to "totally nude".

I first Kazakh ever on DikTok! Please follow to look on me dance to popular music totally nude! https://t.co/CZD9XS7iZE pic.twitter.com/43ADHpEFrJ

— Borat (@BoratSagdiyev) October 9, 2020

Cohen's appearance on Twitter as the fictional Borat comes in the wake of a fresh trailer for the self-titled movie sequel that continues the story of Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiyev who travels through the United States and studies its culture "for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan".

The second mockumentary appears to be on point, throwing Borat into a coronavirus-stricken America that is awaiting a fiercely polarizing presidential election. Some members of the Trump administration are listed as participating in the film - for example, incumbent US vice president Mike Pence, who Borat names "Mike Pennis", and Trump's attorney, Rudi Giuliani.

Who Survives? …It's A New Morning In Hell

“it’s the proper morning to fly into Hell.”

- Arthur Miller (The Crucible)

“One of the greatest delusions of the average man is to forget that life is death’s prisoner.”

- Emil Cioran (On the Heights of Despair)

Increasingly, I think, the American public operates in a mild dissociative state. I wrote about it here. It is almost as if people are afflicted with a kind of PTSD - only one where the trauma is generalized, relatively low grade, but ongoing.

Any of us who have questioned the Covid narrative have had to put up with an inordinate amount of hectoring, name-calling, ridicule, and ostracism. I remember when I signed on the artist appeal as part of the Milosevic Defense Committee, and the abuse and anger I faced whenever this topic came up. People who had no history with the region, knew little of the political landscape, would nonetheless wax irate, furious and near tears that I would hold such outrageous positions.

Now, over a decade later, two members of that committee have won Nobel Prizes (Harold Pinter and Peter Handke). You would think that might cause people to take a moment, reflect, recalibrate their thinking on the topic. But alas, it rarely does.

The Covid narrative has generated the same near-hysterical indignation. The narrative, as it has been constructed by the WHO, CDC, and more likely a dozen or so billionaires (including Bill Gates) is so rife with contradiction and illogic that one might think cracks would begin to show.

That many who accept the word of authority in general, might at this point start to question why none of this story makes sense. But no. Not in America anyway. (or rather, to be more precise, there is a pushback, but it keeps to a low profile lest the little Cotton Mathers of the haute bourgeoisie put one in the stocks).

Leave it to America to make the flu into a morality play. However there are clear signs of people waking up. In Europe certainly.

And not only Germany, doctors and health care professionals in Belgium, too. But the governments are sticking to the story they were handed.

In Norway here I still cannot drive to Sweden. Why? Who knows, there is no reason provided. The PM uttered something about better safe than sorry, and staying the course. Everything is discussed this way, in infantile baby talk, gibberish and slogans. Anti-democratic edicts delivered as if by a kindergarten teacher.

Someone wrote to me on social media the other day and said “Not everyone gets to live in Norway. Here we are surrounded by death”. Now he lives in Los Angeles. In a nice westside area. He is not surrounded by death. Or rather only in his hallucinatory inner theatre of the mind is death present, surrounding him.
