why waste money "buying" grades? they are given away freely. students get to grade the profs, now (student evaluations).

profs with "bad grades" from the students don't get tenure. profs, esp young and incompetent ones,

"buy" good student evaluations by "giving" inflated good grades. ever heard of quid pro quo?

there have a new position in the admin, called the "retention officer," or SSLT. if a prof assigns a failing grade to a student who earned a failing grade, that prof is callied in on the carpet and given a good ass reaming. out of one side of their mouth they preach academic integrity, but out of the other, they demand profs do "whatever it takes" to keep students enrolled. profs learn pretty quickly that it's all about the money, ie, they are told in not so many words to lower the standards and lower the requirements however far is necessary to permit the stupidest to get a passing grade. if they want to keep their cushy academic job, they go along. as a prof, i could do nothing about it. if i kept silent, it continued. if i spoke out, i was dismissed, and it still continued. i spent many an office hour trying to get the good student pissed off, telling them that THEY were the ones being cheated out of the rigorous education they were paying for, just so the "feelings" of the lazy fuckwits were not bruised, and the income stream for the school was not dimished. such is the sorry state of "higher ed."
