Coup Who?

Scaremongering Democrats protest too much.

In August, two retired military officers published a piece in Defense One which literally encouraged America’s top military leadership to have the 82nd airborne to descend on Washington in the event of a disputed election and escort President Trump out of office.

“In the Constitutional crisis described above, your duty is to give unambiguous orders directing U.S. military forces to support the Constitutional transfer of power,” they write. “Should you remain silent, you will be complicit in a coup d’état.” In other words, the military must prevent a coup by staging one of their own. Thankfully, the Pentagon publicly condemned John Nagl’s and Paul Yingling’s musings.

In some regards it is unremarkable in a nation with millions of military veterans that two of them would have some kind of Clockwork Orange-style MSNBC viewing party and put crayon to paper long enough to come up with this violent fantasia. However, the problem isn’t so much that Nagl and Yingling gamed out this scenario—every election that I can remember for the last 30 years has featured fringe voices expressing concern that the current occupant will refuse to leave.

The real problem is that, for once, a respectable media outlet went ahead and published it. If anything, the Defense One op-ed was just the most explicit example of the anti-Trump coup pornography that’s become a staple of mainstream media. And when the media is not baselessly fretting Trump will refuse to leave office, they’re outrageously and falsely characterizing Trump and his administration in ways that justify his violent removal.

The Washington Post recently ran an “analysis” in the business section, quoting a bunch of academics warning that Trump was leading America into autocracy. The article ended with this kicker quote from a Swedish political scientist, Staffan I. Lindberg at Sweden’s University of Gothenburg: “‘if Trump wins this election in November, democracy is gone’ in the United States, [Lindberg] says. He gives it about two years. ‘It’s really time to wake up before it’s too late.’”

Doctors in Australia demand end to Victoria lockdown while WHO says restrictions should not be primary course

Warning Victoria’s strict Covid-19 lockdowns are “disproportionate and unscientific,” 500 doctors in Australia have penned a letter urging the government to reconsider - joining opposition to policies even the WHO backtracked on.

The Australian state’s coronavirus control measures - some of the strictest seen outside of Wuhan, China, at the start of the pandemic - are causing “a massive collateral damage in health and mental health,” Dr. Eamonn Mathieson, one of the doctors who signed last week’s open letter, warned Australia's 7NEWS on Sunday.

The declaration is unequivocal in its alarm, urging Australian states to repeal the control program: “Left unchecked, the Victorian government risks creating the state’s worst ever public health crisis.” The lockdowns, it explains, cause harm to all age groups: children who are denied the social interaction vital for growing into healthy adults, adults who risk not being diagnosed with chronic disease because all medical resources are focused on Covid-19, elderly who risk dying in care homes into which infected patients are carelessly introduced.

The response to the virus will cause more deaths and result in far more negative health effects than the virus itself.

While the declaration was posted last week on the website of the Australian Covid Medical Network, it sat gathering dust for days - hyped on social media but ignored by the Australian establishment - until it presumably could no longer be ignored. The Australian Medical Association has attacked the letter as “fatally flawed,” warning that letting up on lockdown will lead to a fresh spike in cases, but this has not deterred Mathieson and his colleagues from demanding a loosening of restrictions.

Mathieson was one of just 18 doctors to sign his name to a similar statement directed at Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews on August 31, when the harms they predicted would be wrought by the state’s harsh lockdown were more hypothetical. Two months later, thousands more doctors have rushed to pledge their support, both in Australia and in similar declarations worldwide.

Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has changed its tune on lockdowns, once trumpeted as the only surefire way to beat the epidemic. WHO coronavirus envoy Dr. David Nabarro told the Spectator over the weekend that the WHO does not advocate the use of lockdowns “as the primary means of control of the virus”.

Letting coronavirus spread freely for ‘herd immunity’ is unethical, says WHO

The World Health Organization has warned against the idea of allowing Covid-19 to simply spread through society, calling this “herd immunity” approach to fighting the pandemic “unethical.”

“Never in the history of public health has herd immunity been used as a strategy for responding to an outbreak, let alone a pandemic,” WHO chief Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus said during a virtual briefing on Monday, calling the idea “unethical.”

Tedros added that herd immunity to a virus is usually achieved when the vast majority of the population – 80 percent, in the case of polio – is vaccinated, rather than deliberately infected.

“The vast majority of people in most countries remain susceptible to this virus,” he said, adding that “allowing a dangerous virus that we don't fully understand to run free is simply unethical. It's not an option.”

Tedros’ words came days after the WHO’s Dr. David Nabarro warned world leaders against using lockdowns as their “primary control method” against the virus.

Nabarro explained that lockdowns only buy healthcare systems time to “reorganize, regroup, [and] rebalance your resources,” and have disastrous economic consequences that worsen poverty and inequality in society.

The WHO did not always oppose lockdowns, but it cautioned at the outset of the pandemic that, unless accompanied by proper systems of isolation and contact tracing, they would only pause the spread of the virus. Additionally, the organization advised against travel restrictions back in January and February.

Republican Running Against Maxine Waters Releases Viral Ad: ‘Our District Is In Ruins’

Joe Collins is the Republican Navy veteran running against Maxine Waters for Congress in California.

He recently released an ad which has gone viral on social media, racking up millions of views on Twitter alone.

In the ad, Collins takes you from the mansion Maxine Waters lives in to the district she represents and showcases the stark difference.

The Daily Wire reports:

‘Our District Is In Ruins’: Maxine Waters’ Republican Opponent Joe Collins Rolls Out New Ad Campaign

Republican congressional candidate Joe E. Collins III rolled out a new ad campaign Saturday against his opponent Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), highlighting how she lives in a mansion outside of the 43rd Congressional District she represents.

Collins, a Navy veteran who grew up in Waters’ south Los Angeles district, also detailed the many ways in which the city has declined in recent years, thanks in large part to policies Waters has supported.

“Do you know where I am right now?” Collins says in a video depicting him walking up to Waters’ house. “Maxine Waters’ $6 million mansion. Do you know where I’m not right now? Maxine Waters’ district. Yep, that’s right. Maxine does not live in her district, but I do.”

“I was born right here in South L.A., in a place Maxine refuses to live,” Collins continues. “Maxine Waters does not drink our water. She does not breathe our air. And while she sits here in her mansion, our district is in ruins.”

Watch the ad below:

This district deserves a change.

The people should give Joe Collins a chance.

Radical plan to make Australia smoking-free says prescription cigarette sales should be considered

A bold plan to end smoking in Australia has flagged prescription cigarette sales among measures aimed at slashing tobacco usage.

The University of Queensland study said Australia's smoking prevalence stands at just under 15 per cent, but a detailed road map is needed to reduce that figure to zero.

Proposals by the Centre for Research Excellence on Achieving the Tobacco Endgame (CREATE) include reducing the number of tobacco retailers and restricting sales to particular outlets such as pharmacies.

"Australia is a global tobacco control leader and has been at the cutting edge of many new policies," Associate Professor Coral Gartner, CREATE director, said.

"An effective tobacco endgame strategy should accelerate the decline in smoking prevalence while assisting governments, retailers and people who smoke to transition to a smoke-free society."

Researchers also suggested ending sales to people born after a specified year and phasing out commercial cigarette sales.

Associate Professor Gartner said specific plans and a timetable had still to be determined.
