Poll: John James Makes up 10-Point Deficit Since June, Michigan Senate Race Now Dead Heat

Social media fags work for this guy, important

A poll found Republican challenger John James is in a dead heat with incumbent Sen. Gary Peters (D) in Michigan, with James closing a 10-point gap in just months.

The New York Times reported James was down double digits in June, 41 percent to 31 percent.

That gap has now narrowed to one point, 43 percent to 42 percent, according to the Times/Siena survey.

Via the Times:

The relatively high number of undecided voters reflects the relatively low profile of the two candidates. Around 20 percent of voters do not have an opinion on either of them. Mr. James’s favorability ratings have increased to 45 percent favorable versus 35 percent unfavorable, up from 36 percent favorable and 29 percent unfavorable in the June survey. Part of Mr. Peters’s weakness is that he has thus far failed to match Mr. Biden’s tallies among nonwhite voters, who disproportionately remain undecided. It remains to be seen whether Mr. James, who is Black, will ultimately make significant inroads among these voters.

Breitbart News reported a group affiliated with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority PAC, spent “$5.4 million in one week — this is the most money they are spending on any Democrat in the entire nation,” according to Stu Sandler, the campaign’s general consultant.

“The astounding sum that the Senate Majority PAC is spending shows how close John James is to winning the US Senate seat in Michigan,” Sandler continued.

“Schumer and the Democrats are in sheer panic that the $35 million that they have spent against John James over the past year still has John James within striking distance of winning the Senate race,” the memo said.

A Trafalgar Group poll from late September found James with a 0.1 percent lead over Peters:

Labour MP Declares Free Speech Does Not Include Freedom to ‘Generally Offend’

UK misunderstands free speech, the literal meaning of free speech is say what you will. BOJO us a fucking disappointement

Labour’s shadow government minister for legal aid, Karl Turner MP, has said that freedom of speech does not include the freedom to “generally offend.”

Turner, a self-proclaimed “#LeftyLawyer”, issued his remarkable statement in response to Brexit campaigner turned conservative commentator Darren Grimes defending himself against London police investigating him over an interview in which one of his guests said something offensive.

“Freedom of speech Darren doesn’t afford people the freedom to make racist remarks or generally offend,” the politician declared in a now-deleted tweet, adding: “I shall say nothing further given that you say [the Metropolitan Police] are investigating a complaint.”

The backlash against the lawyer MP was swift and extensive, ranging from members of the public to Members of Parliament.

“Freedom of speech precisely involves the freedom to offend. This is the whole point, from Charlie Hebdo to Voltaire to Rushdie,” responded Simon Clarke, the Conservative MP for Middlesborough South and East Cleveland.

“Of course everyone has the right to freedom of expression, Simon. But that doesn’t mean freedom from the consequences from what they have said,” Turner shot back — somewhat alarmingly, given the context of Clarke’s reference to the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

“As I understand it, the Police are investigating complaints. And it is right that they should investigate racist behaviour,” Turner insisted.

The Labour MP spent much of the day issuing similar, effectively copy-and-pasting similar responses to multiple accounts, as more and more people including the (in)famously forthright Ricky Gervais weighed in on the controversy — but had little success.

“My great-grandfather had the right to freedom of expression. That he was shot by the government for using it is neither her[e] nor there, apparently,” remarked college lecturer Yuan Yi Zhu acidly, in response to Turner’s claim that freedom of expression “doesn’t mean freedom from the consequences” of exercising it.

The Labour MP did seem to row back on his original position somewhat after deleting his original tweet: “With Freedom of Speech comes the right to be offensive,” he conceded.

“But it DOES NOT bring with it the right to commit criminal offences,” he added — rendering his concession meaningless if not nonsensical, given the alleged “criminal offences” in question involve broadcasting illegal speech.

It is also questionable whether freedom of speech in Britain, such as it is in Britain, really does include “the right to be offensive”, given people such as YouTube comic Markus ‘Count Dankula’ Meechan have indeed been convicted for causing “gross offence”.

Amy Furr12 Oct 2020

Even food is now a political cultural statement, bet this will be a big loser

Oreo announced Friday it released packs of limited-edition rainbow cookies to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Starting Oct. 9, the colored cream cookies, which will not be sold in stores, will be given away to the first 10,000 people to share on social media their idea of allyship,” according to Fox 24.

Oreo joined with PFLAG, “the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies,” to launch its #ProudParent campaign.

The company also debuted a film showing “the love between Jen and Amy, exploring parent-child relationships and the challenges of bringing a partner home for the first time – especially for the LGBTQ+ community”:

The PFLAG website named corporations such as Verizon, Walmart, and Hallmark on its list of partners.

“Having a supportive, affirming family—and committed allies—is crucial for the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people,” said Brian K. Bond, the organization’s Executive Director.

“We are grateful for our partnership with OREO, and for OREO’s commitment to our shared vision of a diverse and inclusive world, made better by loving, proud parents and allies,” he continued.

PFLAG said its mission is to “build on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQ people and allies who support one another, and to educate ourselves and our communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value and affirm LGBTQ people.”

For National Coming Out Day on Sunday, Oreo tweeted photos of LGBTQ+ flags such as the Transgender flag, the Pansexual flag, the Bisexual flag, and the Lesbian pride flag.

The Proud Parent campaign is a “year-long initiative designed to shine a spotlight on the powerful impact love & acceptance can have on LGBTQ+ youth,” Oreo’s website read.

“Together we’re committed to empowering and inspiring parents, families, and allies to come out in loud, public support,” the site concluded.

READ: Left-wing Radicals Post Online Guide to ‘Disrupting’ the Country if Election is Close

I guess the only peaceful transfer of power is if leftists win

• An organization of radical left-wing activists has posted an online guide to “disruption” that outlines a plan to shut down the country and force President Donald Trump from power in the event that the 2020 election is too close to call.

• The guide, “Stopping the Coup,” available as a Google doc, is being circulated by a group called ShutDownDC. It casts its plan for disruption as a response to an imagined “coup” by the president in the case of a close election.

• In an email promoting the guide, ShutDownDC declares: “Preventing Donald Trump from stealing the election and remaining in office is likely to take mass, sustained disruptive movements all over the country.” The guide is a manual to that “disruption.”

• Parts of the guide are committed to ensuring a “fair election.” Parts of it, however, read like a manual for staging a coup rather than a guide to preventing one:

• In the context of a coup or highly contested election we need to be clear that our actions must directly affect the structures and pillars of power. Our largest asset in this regard utilizes the ideas of non-compliance through massive, broad based direct action. Where we can, we need to be in the streets, on the highways, or at the sites of power and power holders. In our jobs and lives we must refuse to allow those taking control the legitimacy of the power they seek through strikes, slowdowns, and boycotts, and public refusal to accept an illegitimate ruling party.

• Another section urges activists to stop American life from continuing if the election does not go their way (original emphasis):

• In order to really win we will need to force some pillars of power (business, military, media, or other major institutions) to decide to side with the people, or at least get out of the way. If everyday life goes on, a despot will not leave power, and so there will be no incentive for real systems change. You want to think about what it might take to stop business-as-usual.

• The guide also says that activists plan on “physically protecting the vote count from counter-protestors, federal agents, or white supremacist militias.”

• The guide indicates that activists intend to “demand that no winner be announced until every vote is counted,” and that they will launch “mass coordinated action” to that end.

• The signal for action will be if President Donald Trump is declared the winner on Election Night:

• Trump may try to declare himself the victor before the votes are counted, or Fox News might call the race. Those who can should be prepared to take action against those who are feeding into the stolen election narrative, including social media companies that are letting falsehoods or incitements to violence spread.

• The guide imagines a number of bizarre nightmare scenarios — such as Attorney General William Barr trying “to seize all mail-in ballots and invalidate them” — and uses them to motivate readers and justify plans for “direct action.”

One section says that in the case of a contested election, “we must take action”(original emphasis):

• In the end, the actual electorate might be split, half truly believing that Trump was elected legally, and half knowing that he was not.

• It is in this muddied context of legal and political wrangling that we must take action. We cannot wait to see how the chips fall. That will only ensure more power for the violent white supremacist machine that is the Trump administration and its supporters.

• We want to be clear here, though: we are not a group of Biden supporters. This is not about ensuring that the Democrats win, but actually preparing for the possibility that white supremacist violence will continue.

• The guide also suggests that activists will continue their “disruption” regardless of who wins the election: “We’re absolutely not saying the election is useless, but rather the reactivity of the right and the white supremecist [sic] will be present no matter who wins.”

• The guide also links to a variety of other documents, such as one devoted to preparing for the threat of violence, and another that lists allied organizations. All of the documents seem to benefit from professional-level skills in writing, layout, and design.

•The document appears to be the product of a group called the Disruption Project, whose website describes itself as “dedicated to supporting uprisings, resistance and mass direct action.”

• It suggests a revolution in the United States — “nonviolently”:
