GOP Congressional Candidate Gets in Fist Fight With Biden Supporters, Hospitalized With Broken Tibia

A Republican who launched a write in campaign to challenge Rep. Ayanna Pressley in Massachusetts was hospitalized with a broken tibia after a fist fight with Joe Biden supporters on Monday.

Video has surfaced of the incident, in which the candidate and leftists were antagonizing each other before becoming physical.

Rayla Campbell, a black Republican woman, got into a scuffle with the leftists in a parking lot in New Bedford after she left a pro-Trump event. Video of the altercation was obtained by radio station WBSM and appears to begin as Campbell and a man who was filming are already arguing with the two women by their car.

It is unclear who threw the first punch, or how the confrontation started, but WBSM notes that Campbell may have had a hand in instigating the situation.

“The passenger then appears to take a fighting stance against Campbell, as Campbell once again asks, “You want to f—ing do this?” Campbell appears to then make a move toward the passenger, and a tussle ensues between the two women. It is seemingly unclear from the video who initiated the physical attack,” WBSM reports.

Witnesses at the scene say in the video that the women hit Campbell first.

Campbell has since posted on Facebook that she is doing okay.

“I’m ok everyone. I appreciate all of your concern. I was involved in an incident leaving the New Bedford rally today that turned physical. Two individuals, both female, physically confronted and then assaulted me. I got kicked in the head and have a fractured tibia,” Campbell wrote on Facebook. “I’m sore, that is all. Other than that I have no idea about the two females, what’s transpired or anything else and I haven’t talked to any media up to this point. I’m heading home now finally, but thank you all for your well wishes and kind words.”

Facebook Bans Ads Questioning Safety Of COVID-19 Vaccines

Mark Zuckerberg has clearly had enough of being hauled in front of Congress and hectored by a gang of senior citizens and listening to the head of the ACLU slam his company as a vessel for violent hate speech. Because over the past few months, Facebook has done a complete 180 on its position about speech, particularly sensitive political speech. Zuckerberg has apparently been shaken from his non-interventionist approach by announcing that FB wouldn't accept new political ads during the last week of the campaign, and just yesterday announcing that Facebook would crack down on holocaust deniers on its platform.

The company has also launched salvos against QAnon and election-related misinformation, while taking an aggressive approach toward political advertising, and political content in general.

And as global authorities struggle to convince the public that an eventual COVID-19 vaccine will be safe to take despite the expedited approval process, Facebook has decided to give them a hand by banning all content encouraging users to refuse to take a vaccine. It laid out the new global policy in a blog post published Tuesday.

"Now, if an ad explicitly discourages someone from getting a vaccine, we’ll reject it,” the company’s Head of Health Kang-Xing Jin and Director of Product Management Rob Leathern said in a blog post Tuesday.

Facebook will draw the line at allowing users who advocate against "mandatory vaccination," which the company said was a legitimate political position (not an argument made in "bad faith" that some on the left insist), to post as normal. They cited an example of a state lawmaker from Virginia who posted "STOP FORCED CORONAVIRUS VACCINATIONS".

Virginia’s Voter Registration System Goes Down on Final Day to Register to Vote

Virginia’s voter registration system went down on Tuesday, the last day to register to vote in the state.

Virginia’s Department of Elections said they were alerted after a fiber cut near the Commonwealth Enterprise Solutions Center was impacting data circuits and VPN connectivity for multiple agencies.

“This has affected the citizen portal along with registrar’s offices.”

Virginia’s Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax (D) called for the voter registration deadline to be extended.

Recall, Virginia’s voter registration system went down in 2016 on the final day to register to vote.

Beijing urges Asian nations to unite against Washington’s ‘old-fashioned cold war mentality’

China’s top diplomat has urged neighboring states to guard against Washington’s geopolitical ambitions in Asia and called for regional cooperation to thwart foreign provocations in the South China Sea.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a joint news conference with his Malaysian counterpart that members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) should work together to ensure security in the region.

The top diplomat argued that the “South China Sea should not be a ground for major power wrestling teeming with warships,” adding that “China and ASEAN have full capacity and wisdom, as well as responsibility, to maintain peace and tranquility.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Wang, who is visiting Malaysia as part of a tour of Southeast Asia, called for cooperation among ASEAN states to remove “external disruption” in the South China Sea.

He called on China’s regional partners to remain “vigilant” against Washington’s "Indo-Pacific" strategy, which he said presented a clear “security risk” for East Asia.

What [the US] pursues is to trumpet the old-fashioned cold war mentality and start up confrontation among different groups and blocks, and stoke geopolitical competition.

Tensions between Beijing and Washington have been rising for months, with US naval patrols through the South China Sea continuing to strain bilateral relations. Washington has frequently conducted so-called “freedom of navigation” missions – as well as aerial surveillance missions – in the region, claiming that such operations safeguard marine traffic there. Beijing has denounced the US military presence as a provocation that threatens its territorial sovereignty. China has accused Washington of “militarizing” the South China Sea, warning that the unwanted naval activity could lead to accidents. The US, meanwhile, has alleged that Beijing is aiming to create a “maritime empire” in the region.

Pfizer expands coronavirus vaccine trial to include children as young as 12

Pfizer has become the first western pharma firm to begin pediatric testing of its coronavirus vaccine, getting the nod from the FDA to expand its phase III trials to some 48,400 participants, among them kids as young as 12.

The multinational drug giant said it received federal approval to launch pediatric trials in an update on Monday, explaining that testing on younger volunteers will help researchers “to better understand the potential safety and efficacy of the vaccine in individuals from more ages and backgrounds.” Now in its final phase, the trial will also add 4,400 new participants to the original 44,000 enrolled, Business Insider reported, citing a company spokesperson.

The expanded testing comes as Pfizer and a number of other drug makers race to complete phase III trials and seek emergency FDA approval for their inoculations, with Pfizer currently the frontrunner and the first to begin testing for children. The company says it expects to have data on its vaccine’s effectiveness by the end of October.

Vaccine trials are typically carried out gradually, beginning with healthy adult volunteers and, as data accumulates, moving into age groups with different levels of vulnerability. While pediatric trials are a necessary stage before a vaccine can be rolled out for general use, researchers working on a jab for the novel coronavirus have focused more on older populations who are especially susceptible to the illness.

Moderna, one of the other leading drug makers developing a coronavirus inoculation, says it plans to begin pediatric testing by the end of 2020, while Johnson & Johnson will open studies for children “later in the year,” after safety is established for adults.

Under new federal guidelines issued last week, vaccine manufacturers are encouraged to monitor trial participants for at least two months after their last immunization to detect any possible adverse effects, as well as whether they retain a strong immune response. Though Pfizer currently leads the pack among four other vaccine-makers in phase III trials, the new rules mean that emergency FDA approval won’t come until sometime in December at the earliest, likely frustrating hopes from President Donald Trump that an immunization will be ready by election day.

Netflix CEO defends 'Cuties' film after grand jury indictment: 'It's surprising' that we're 'censoring storytelling'

'It's a film that is very misunderstood'

Netflix chief executive Ted Sarandos defended controversial film "Cuties" recently, after a Texas grand jury indicted the streaming giant for running the project, which features the experiences of four 11-year-old girls involved in a French "sensual dance" troop.

While speaking at the virtual Mipcom market on Monday, Sarandos called the film "misunderstood" and said "it's a little surprising in 2020 America that we're having a discussion about censoring storytelling," Deadline reported.

"It's a film that is very misunderstood with some audiences, uniquely within the United States," Sarandos added. "The film speaks for itself. It's a very personal coming of age film, it's the director's story and the film has obviously played very well at Sundance without any of this controversy and played in theaters throughout Europe without any of this controversy."

The award-winning French film — rated TV-MA (for mature audiences only) in the United States — attracted immediate criticism for its overt sexualization of young children upon its debut on Netflix. Outraged viewers rushed to sign a Change.org petition called "Cancel Netflix Subscription," and the hashtag #CancelNetflix soon began trending on social media.

Shortly after, a Texas grand jury indicted Netflix on charges that the streamer "knowingly promote[d] visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time the visual material was created, which appeals to the prurient interest in sex, and has no serious, literary, artistic, political, or scientific value."

Throughout the controversy, Netflix has adamantly stood by its decision to stream the film, only offering an apology for using "inappropriate artwork" to promote the project in late August.

In a statement to TheBlaze, a Netflix spokesperson essentially argued that by streaming a film about the sexualization of young children, the company was working to combat the sexualization of young children.

"Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. It's an award winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we'd encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie," the spokesperson said.

Horowitz: Someone tell Dr. Fauci: Drugs killed four times as many San Franciscans this year as COVID-19

Excess deaths

In a wide-ranging interview with CNN's Jake Tapper yesterday, Dr. Anthony Fauci said he believes the excess deaths we are seeing this year show that the COVID-19 death count is higher than what's officially being reported. "It certainly suggests that is the case," Fauci said in response to Tapper's assertion of over 20% more excess deaths. "Unless you can find another reason — which I can't think of — of there being these excess deaths in the context of coronavirus, you'd have to make an assumption that it's reasonably possible, if not likely, that those are deaths that are related to corona and they are just not being counted."

It's one thing to assert that the cost of panic, lockdown, and social isolation are somehow worth Fauci's alleged gains in preventing coronavirus deaths. But to deny the fact that we are seeing excess deaths this year that are not explained by the virus itself, but likely due to our response to it, is willful blindness. Nowhere is this more evident than with drug overdoses.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, half of the bodies in the city's morgue are from drug overdoses — with the city on pace for 700 drug fatalities by the end of the year. That is a staggering 59% increase from last year. It's hard to explain such an increase in one year without taking into account the mental health toll of the lockdown and social isolation. As city supervisor Matt Haney observed, "It's already killed four times as many people as COVID."

Citing Rise in Violent Sex Attacks, Bangladesh Approves Death Penalty for Rape

The government in Bangladesh has agreed to increase the maximum punishment in rape cases from life imprisonment to death, amid mass protests sparked by a recent series of sexual assaults.

President Abdul Hamid is expected to issue a special ordinance amending the Women and Children Repression Prevention Bill and enact the legislation as parliament is not currently in session, Cabinet spokesman Khandaker Anwarul Islam said on Monday.

The government has also agreed to a proposal that rape trials will be completed in a speedy manner, Islam said. Currently, capital punishment is allowed in Bangladesh only in cases where the victim dies.

The president may issue the ordinance on Tuesday, according to Law Minister Anisul Huq.

The legislative push follows a series of violent sexual attacks in recent weeks. Protests broke out in the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country after a video was posted on Facebook showing a group of men stripping and attacking a woman in a southeastern district. The National Human Rights Commission found the woman in the video had been raped repeatedly and terrorized over the last year.

Women’s rights group Ain o Salish Kendra said that 889 rapes occurred between January and August this year alone, with at least 41 of the victims dying.

Human rights groups say the number of incidents of rape in the country has surged, with many going unreported.

Protesters demanded the resignation of the Bangladeshi interior minister over what they said was a failure to address the alarming rise in cases of sexual violence against women and girls.

Many rape victims have been unable to get justice because influential people were involved in some of these incidents, according to demonstrators. They also accused police of hesitating to arrest rapists, while many of those who did get arrested were released on bail.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on October 5 that the ruling Awami League-led government cannot avoid the responsibility of taking action after incidents of violence against women, including rape.
