Look beyond the surface… McCabe is trying and will save face by making a deal.. He will give information, most likely already has, that is integral to future prosecutions of bigger fish.
This is posturing for a future in which he can capitalize on this. Which, if he pays his "restitution" via testimony or intel, is rightfully deserved.
Honestly, I've considered this option..
If the US is truly concerned, and I believer they are, with retaining their hegemony what better way to gain leverage or a better negotiating position on other nations than "pretending" to have a constitutional crisis. Hearing conflicting stories from Obama, Clintons, Carter, Bushes, and Trump…
What better way to cast doubt.. and make every nation and their leaders question everything…
People in positions of ignorance, even if its perceived, are at a disadvantage.
