Biden’s Son-In-Law Advising Campaign On Pandemic While Investing In Companies That Will Benefit From It

In what should be an obvious conflict of interests, Joe Biden’s son-in-law Howard Klein is advising Biden’s campaign on the Coronavirus pandemic, while investing in companies which stand to gain from it.

Try to imagine the reaction from Democrats and the media, if Trump’s son in law was poised to benefit financially from the pandemic.

It would be front page news.

Politico has the story:

iden’s son-in-law advises campaign on pandemic while investing in Covid-19 startups

At the same time that Joe Biden’s son-in-law, Howard Krein, has been advising Biden’s campaign on its coronavirus response, Krein’s venture capital business has been running a special initiative to invest in health care startups that offer solutions to the pandemic.

In March, as Covid-19 began spreading in the United States, the investment firm, StartUp Health, unveiled a new coronavirus initiative soliciting pitches from entrepreneurs with products that addressed the outbreak.

The next month, reports in Bloomberg and the New York Times listed Krein among those participating in daily calls to brief Biden on health policy during the pandemic, while StartUp Health announced its intention to invest $1 million across 10 startups with coronavirus applications within 30 days.

“StartUp Health is putting the full support of its platform and network behind building a post-Covid world that uses technology and entrepreneurial ingenuity to improve health outcomes,” the firm said at the time.

Krein simultaneously advising the campaign and venturing into Covid investing could pose conflict-of-interest concerns for a Biden administration or simply create the awkward appearance of Krein profiting off his father-in-law’s policies.

This is outrageous.

What is it with the Bidens? They openly cash in on connections and the media looks the other way.

As public opposition to lockdowns grows, WHO seeks other methods to control virus

Economic shutdowns are "making poor people an awful lot poorer," a WHO special envoy for COVID-19 response said last week.

The World Health Organization has made a pronounced shift in its public messaging on economic and societal shutdowns as primary COVID-19 mitigation measures, now urging countries to consider such methods only as last resorts after exhausting other, less disruptive and damaging alternatives to contain the spread of the virus.

The notable shift comes as public sentiment against lockdowns continues to grow, with a majority of U.S. voters now opposing such measures along with a series of protests in Europe against the continent's ongoing restrictions on daily life.

Lockdowns have been among the more polarizing elements of the COVID-19 pandemic, with government leaders around the world imposing open-ended, often severe measures, including school and business closures, bans on large gatherings, the suspension of non-emergency healthcare procedures, the shuttering of houses of worship, and capacity limits on indoor events.

The World Health Organization — one of the primary institutions shaping the global response to COVID-19 — has expressed similar support for shutdowns. Earlier in the year, the WHO praised lockdown measures as viable means of fighting COVID-19, in particular noting China's aggressive use of lockdowns and whole-population house arrest to counteract the spread of the virus.

"[W]hat China is doing — serious measures in Wuhan and Hubei province and others, hammering at the source — can help us to contain [the virus]," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a February press conference.

The organization's message was unchanged in April, when Tedros said, "There is no question that stay-at-home orders and other physical distancing measures have successfully suppressed transmission in many countries."

As late as July, meanwhile, WHO Health Emergencies Program Executive Director Mike Ryan said that although officials "want to avoid whole countries going back into total lockdown … there may be situations in which that is the only option."

Lockdowns could result in 'doubling of world poverty,' WHO official says

Last week, a strikingly different message emerged from the World Health Organization, one that urged governments to move away from the lockdown paradigm toward more targeted measures of virus containment.

"We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus," British doctor David Nabarro said during a teleconference.

Hawaii "Has Committed Suicide" - Local Rages "Hardly Anyone Is Sick, But We're All Broke"

For many 'mainlanders', the thoughts of a vacation to Hawaii (or anywhere but the apartment they have been suffering in for 7 months) are heavenly. However, as the following 'rural Hawaiian' exclaims in her Twitter thread, "Hawaii is committing suicide" with its "cargo-cult level bullshit" travel restrictions.

'Mom Folding Laundry' (@Folding_Laundry) begins her righteous rant as follows: "Guys… I cannot tell you how bad it is in Hawaii."

They cancelled our flight without telling us.

It took an hour to get through the new security checkpoint. A guy there (a surgeon with an exemption) was telling the people to go ahead and arrest him.

We had to check into a hotel in Oahu overnight. We can’t leave the room because we are technically “quarantined.”

I have to fill out paperwork AGAIN to go from one island to our own.

This is BULLSHIT.

They think tourists are coming back in 4 days???)

Hawaii has committed suicide.

We may legit have to move. This is ridiculous .

In closing, I will say this:

Shut the fuck up about the “dangers of COVID.”

What is happening in Hawaii is some cargo-cult level, praying to the gods for deliverance from the “plague”, bullshit.

Hardly anyone is sick here.

But we are all broke.

At this point, I feel like the response to covid should have been managed at the federal level. This state to state bullshit is not working.

I am a goddamn American. I am entitled to the same rights as any other American .

I’m not even kidding that there were only like 50 people on our plane to Oahu from Seattle, and one of them [a surgeon] ended up yelling at airport security to go ahead and arrest him.

The state of Hawaii is trying to detain him - even though he has surgeries to give in the morning.

This man comes to Hawaii once a month to perform surgeries.

Every month.

They keep changing the regulations for entry.

The state or Hawaii is denying their citizens ACCESS TO MEDICAL TREATMENT via their constant changing of their rules.

This doesn’t even surprise me.

Many of us here in Hawaii use medical services that come from other islands, or even from the mainland.

Hawaii’s ridiculously overzealous travel restrictions are going to make it so that even FEWER doctors are available to serve the citizens

The veterinarian who sees my horse normally flies in from Oahu.

Until recently, he was the ONLY equine vet serving the island.

Our only pediatric psychiatrist on island works 1/2 time on another island.

These travel restrictions are not only cumbersome, but risk lives.

Council of Europe Ready to Help Belarus on Its Way to Genuine Reforms

The Council of Europe is ready to help Belarus on its way to reforms, the CoE leaders said in a joint statement.

The statement was made by the Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the President of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, Rik Daems, and the Secretary-General of the 47-nation Council of Europe, Marija Pejcinovic Buric.

"Developments after the presidential elections of 9 August in Belarus and the crackdown exercised by the authorities and law enforcement remain of greatest concern. Freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental European values which must be respected. Violence against peaceful protestors is intolerable", the document said.

The CoE leaders strongly condemned the use of violence in Belarus and called to respect the rights of journalists, adding that "mass arrests and extensive ill-treatment of peaceful protesters cannot be tolerated on our continent".

"We firmly recall our position that all those detained must be released and that there is a need to start genuine and respectful dialogue with the representatives of civil society in view of the constitutional reform long-awaited by the whole country. An end to the crisis and meaningful reforms cannot be negotiated with pro-governmental forces only", the statement said.

The leaders said success could be seen only with the participation of all forces, including the opposition.

"The Council of Europe stands ready to help Belarus on its way to genuine reforms", they said.

Mass opposition protests began across Belarus on 9 August, after the presidential elections, won for the sixth time by President Alexander Lukashenko, who, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC), gained 80.1 percent of the vote. At first, the protests were suppressed by law enforcement officers, who used tear gas, water cannons, stun grenades and rubber bullets against the protesters, who disagreed with the election results.

According to official data, over 6,700 people were detained in the first days. The Belarusian Interior Ministry reported that hundreds of people had been injured during riots, including over 130 law enforcement officers. The authorities have officially confirmed the deaths of three protesters.

Protests have continued to this day, the largest ones taking place on weekends. In addition, events are held by supporters of Lukashenko, whose inauguration took place on 23 September.
