Number Of Attacks Took Place In Mali Days After Release Of Hundreds Of Jihadists

On October 13, a military camp in Sokura in central Mali, suffered a double terrorist attack, resulting in the deaths of twelve soldiers and twelve civilians. The announcement was made by the Malian army.

The Malian army has faced two attacks. First attack targeted Sokura military camp located in the center of the country, a few tens of kilometers from the border with Burkina Faso.

Nine Malian soldiers were initially killed in the camp. Reinforcements from the regular army were quickly dispatched to the area. They also fell into an ambush not far from a small bridge located between the villages of Bandiaraga and Bankass. According to some sources, the army lost three soldiers in the second attack.

The attackers also suffered significant casualties as at least eleven fighters were killed. Two vehicles were also destroyed.

On Tuesday afternoon, new army reinforcements were sent to the field. The goal was to quickly secure the attacked camp. United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali deployed air assets to secure the area, while peacekeepers provided first aid to soldiers and civilians, and evacuated critical cases by helicopter to appropriate medical centres.

Another attack took place near the town of Bandiagara, where 12 civilians were killed the same day.

Three days of national mourning were proclaimed as of Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Commenting on the attacks on the Malian military, one of the UN officials said that the resurgence of terrorist acts had left about 175 dead in six months.

“The enemy is known and it is possible to defeat him. If we do not win this long-term war, we must be vigilant to win this victory, ” said the President of Mali, Bah N’daw.

On October 5, Malian authorities freed 204 suspected or convicted jihadists as part of negotiations for the release of a prominent Malian politician and a kidnapped French charity worker.

“As part of negotiations to obtain the release of Soumïla Cissé and Sophie Pétronin, more than 100 jihadist prisoners were released on Malian territory over the weekend”, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on condition of anonymity. Reporter at Financial Afrik and Les Afriques, Fenelon Massala, published the photos of reception of the terrorists released from the prisons of Mali, Burkina and Côte d’Ivoire by Iyad Ag Ghali, chief of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM, in person. A party was held in their honor.

Rep. Huizenga tests positive for COVID-19

Following the surge of officials in Washington, DC contracting the novel coronavirus over the past couple of weeks, Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) added his name to the growing list, announcing on Wednesday that he has tested positive.

“Earlier today, I was expected to appear with the Vice President,” wrote Rep. Huizenga. “While taking part in offsite testing protocols, I took a rapid test that came back positive for COVID-19.”

“I am awaiting the results of a PCR test,” he added, “and I am self isolating until I have confirmed results.”

Earlier today, I was expected to appear with the Vice President. While taking part in offsite testing protocols, I took a rapid test that came back positive for COVID-19. I am awaiting the results of a PCR test and I am self isolating until I have confirmed results.

— Rep. Bill Huizenga (@RepHuizenga) October 14, 2020

After President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and advisor Hope Hicks announced in recent weeks that they had tested positive, a tsunami of officials in the nation’s capital reported that they had also contracted the virus. President Trump was forced to quarantine himself, taking up much-needed time away from the 2020 campaign trail, where every single day and event are critical to him and his re-election effort.

As of last Friday, the White House doctor reported that the president is “no longer considered a transmission risk to others.” He is now conducting in-person campaign events and rallies again.

Many experts have theorized that the event they’ve dubbed a “superspreader” which caused this outbreak was likely the Saturday, September 26 White House ceremony where the president announced Judge Amy Coney Barrett as his nominee to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. Many of those who later revealed that they caught the virus attended this event.

Just a sliver of the list of those in D.C. who were infected include Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany; Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel; Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.); multiple national security officials; and among dozens more officials and staffers. Significant figures such as Vice President Mike Pence, Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who is Biden’s running mate, tested negative for the virus.

Rouhani: Iran entitled to free arms trade in days with UN ban expiry

President Hassan Rouhani says Iran will be free to trade weapons as of Sunday after the United States failed in its attempts to secure an extension of the United Nations arms embargo against the Islamic Republic.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Rouhani congratulated the Iranian nation on the lifting within days of the “oppressive” 10-year arms ban on the Islamic Republic despite Washington’s struggles to keep the restrictions in force.

“We fought with the United States on this issue for four years. America was exerting itself to prevent this day (October 18) from coming, [but] that day is coming thanks to our people’s resistance. It is because of the endeavors of our diplomats that the US failed,” he said.

Rouhani also noted that the lifting of the arms embargo was a fruit of the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), for the country.

The JCPOA “removed the arms embargo and as of Sunday, we can buy weapons from and sell weapons to any [country] we want,” he added.

The embargo will be lifted under UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2231, which endorsed the JCPOA.

Prominent Former Rebel Commander Adham al-Akrad has been assassinated in the northern countryside of Daraa.

Al-Akrad was heading on October 14 to the capital, Damascus, to attend a meeting with senior security officials when his car was intercepted near the town of Mothbeen by unknown gunmen in a van.

The gunmen targeted al-Akarad’s car with machine guns and hand grenades. Al-Krad and four other people, including Ahmad Faisal al-Mahamid a former commander of the so-called “Ahfad al-Rasul” faction, were killed on the spot.

Hunter Biden Email Bombshell: Obama Conference Call Addressing US Policy Toward Ukraine Leaked to Burisma

Rudy Giuliani and Steve Bannon, via The New York Post dropped an October surprise on Joe Biden Wednesday morning.

Biden immediately went into hiding and let the tech giants and media sycophants run cover for him.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that a laptop computer abandoned at a Delaware repair shop contains emails between Hunter Biden and a senior Burisma adviser that indicate Hunter Biden arranged a meeting between his father then-Vice President Joe Biden and the adviser in Washington, D.C. in 2015.

There’s more…

According to Hunter Biden’s emails, Obama’s conference call on Joe Biden’s upcoming trip to the Ukraine in December of 2015 was leaked to Blue Star Strategies, a Democrat PR firm that worked for Burisma Holdings.

An associate of Blue Star then emailed several minutes of the conference call in a memo to top Burisma executive Vadym Pozharskyi as well as Hunter and his business partner Devon Archer (both of them sat on the board of Burisma at the time).

Biden’s trip to the Ukraine in December 2015 is very significant because it is when he is seen on video bragging that he threatened to withhold $1 billion in US aid to Ukraine unless they fired Viktor Shokin, the prosecutor general investigating Burisma.

The New York Post reported:

The Obama administration let a Democratic p.r. company that worked for Ukrainian energy firm Burisma take part in a conference call about an upcoming visit to Ukraine by then-Vice President Joe Biden, emails obtained by The Post show.

An associate at Blue Star Strategies then emailed a memo with minutes of the conference call hosted by the White House to a top Burisma executive, Vadym Pozharskyi, as well as to Joe Biden’s son Hunter and Hunter’s business partner, Devon Archer, both of whom sat on Burisma’s board.

The trip, in December 2015, turned out to be the one during which Biden later bragged about forcing Ukrainian officials to fire a state prosecutor who was investigating Burisma by threatening to withhold a $1 billion US loan guarantee.

The memo, sent shortly after the Dec. 2, 2015, call, also “outlined the trip’s agenda and addressed several questions regarding US policy toward Ukraine.”

Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Ron Johnson told Fox News that his committee launched a probe into Hunter Biden’s hard drive.

Rudy Giuliani said there is much more coming out on the Bidens soon.

Former high school football coach charged with sexually abusing players

A former Maryland high school football coach has been charged with sexually abusing two players — and detectives believe he may have victimized others as well, police said.

Christopher Papadopoulos, 26, of Gaithersburg, was arrested Monday after two of the former assistant coach’s players at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville accused him of sexually abusing them while on the varsity football team, Montgomery County police said Tuesday.

The “sexual interactions” between Papadopoulos and the former student-athletes took place after school and not on school property, police said. An investigation into the accusations was launched in late February.

“Detectives learned that Papadopoulos sexually abused and exploited the first victim on multiple occasions,” police said in a statement. “Detectives also learned that Papadopoulos sexually abused and solicited the second victim.”

Court records obtained by the Washington Post show that Papadopoulos allegedly fondled the two players in 2017 after luring them with private training sessions. The illicit sexual contact took place at Papadopoulos’ home, as well as that of one of the teens, the newspaper reported.

Both teens were 17 at the time of the alleged abuse and Papadopoulos — who was then 23 — was like a “father figure” to one of the students, his mother told police.

Prosecutor Adrienne Ferrell said in court Tuesday that Papadopoulos used his “position of authority” to groom and sexually assault the players, according to the Washington Post.

Ferrell also said one incident did occur on school property, contradicting an earlier statement by police.

“It actually happened in a private room at Wootton High School,” Ferrell said.

The prosecutor also accused Papadopoulos of communicating with one player on Snapchat during the 2017 season. The teen later awoke in his basement to find the assistant coach fondling him after the pair drank alcohol together, the Washington Post reported.

An attorney for Papadopoulos, meanwhile, dismissed the accusations as false, claiming an independent investigation by her office led to “very different stories,” the newspaper reported.

“I cannot deny the allegations strong enough on behalf of my client,” attorney Rene Sandler said.

Papadopoulos, who was hired by Montgomery County Public Schools in 2016, has been placed on administrative leave, school officials said Tuesday.

“These charges are troubling, completely unacceptable and represent a violation of the core values of our school and school system,” Wootton High School principal Kimberly Boldon said in a statement.

“This behavior does not reflect the principles of MCPS or our community and it will not be tolerated.”

Papadopoulos was released from custody Tuesday after posting $15,000 bond, WTTG reported.

Detectives believe Papadopoulos may have victimized others and are asking with additional information to contact Montgomery County police at (240) 773-5400.

Wells Fargo Fires Over 100 Employees For Illegally Pocketing Virus Relief Funds

First JPMorgan admitted that over 500 of its generously paid employees had "illegally pocketed" covid-relief funds - and then summarily fired most of them - and now it's chronic lawbreaking recidivist Wells Fargo's turn.

The bank, whose stock tumbled today after reporting dismal results and then was hit with even more selling after cutting its net interest income outlook, has fired more than 100 employees for illegally getting covid relief funds which were meant to help small businesses, Bloomberg reported citing a person familiar.

Warren Buffett's favorite bank uncovered dozens of employees who defrauded the Small Business Administration "by making false representations in applying for coronavirus relief funds for themselves," according to an internal memo reviewed by Bloomberg. Similar to JPMorgan, the abuse was tied to the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program and was outside the employees’ roles at the bank, according to the memo.

"We have terminated the employment of those individuals and will cooperate fully with law enforcement," David Galloreese, Wells Fargo’s head of human resources, said in the memo. Wells Fargo’s actions follow JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s finding that more than 500 employees tapped the EIDL program which hands out as much as $10,000 in emergency advances that don't have to be repaid, and dozens did so improperly.

The bank “will continue to look into these matters,” Galloreese added, saying the employees’ abuse didn’t involve customers… for once. "If we identify additional wrongdoing by employees, we will take appropriate action."

As Bloomberg notes banks were urged by the SBA to look out for suspicious deposits from the EIDL program to their customers and even their own staff, after an analysis identified that at least $1.3 billion was sent out from the SBA for suspicious payments. While the program offers loans to businesses, much of the concern has focused on its advances of as much as $10,000 that don’t have to be repaid.

Wells Fargo is best known for its role in a massive account fraud scandal in which the bank created millions of fraudulent savings and checking accounts on behalf of Wells Fargo clients without their consent over a 14-year period. The fallout led to the bank paying $3 billion to settle criminal charges and former CEO John Stumpf losing his job after a historic Congressional grilling, while also agreeing pay a personal $17.5 million fine. In 2018, Wells Fargo agreed to an unprecedented consent order from the Fed which capped the size of its balance sheet and limited how many loans the bank can issue, one of the factors behind the dismal performance of its stock in recent years, which even prompted Warren Buffett to finally dump some of his Wells Fargo holdings.
