Architectfag here.

I can confirm that the cheap parque flooring and ancient HVAC duct-system (see vent above door) are indicators that this is an old (not nice) facility.

Then you have the hospital-green wall protection and black-painted hollow-metal door frame, which suggests this is indeed an institutional setting.

Certainly doesn't seem like a private residence. Those finishes are not high-end, nor do they really coordinate. (suggesting that they were incrementally replaced, over time, or follow a dictated design standard) Certainly doesn't seem to be the home of a multi-millionaire with a lavish lifestyle.

With all of that said, if this is some sort of institutional rehab/psych ward facility, it does appear to be on the higher end. High ceilings, spacious rooms, lots of daylight. Seems like a place that a Billionaire or Senator would send their fuck-up kid to get clean.

Very astute observation, anon. I think you may be on to something.

Basic contract law. Hunter broke the contract, and thereby surrendered the property.

The repair shop would then seek to sell the laptop, which would first require wiping it clean. Obviously, they found the files on the computer.

Not much of a riddle, really.
