Linux. 99% of all the worlds supercomputers run linux. You should too. It's free and solid. Start with Ubuntu. Do a dual boot if you really need Micro$oft Window$.

No it is not, it is easy. Install linux it to a USB stick and get your PC to boot from it. You may have to 'change the boot sequence' in the BIOS. You can run it right from the USB stick to test it without modifying anything on your PC.
And yes, lots of free help at the ubuntu site/community and on youtube.

Linux is a well written OS, so constant duct tape patches are not required. All updates happen together, when YOU WANT. It is ok run from a USB but it is WAAAY faster if you install it. Alos, you can't update the USB, it needs to be current to be max safe.

Watch some videos. You'll love it. Linux Mint is pretty awesome too. Gaming is problematic, so caution there.
