Trump Administration Denies California Request for Wildfire Disaster Aid

The Trump administration’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied California Governor Gavin Newsom’s request for disaster relief after fires have consumed more than a million acres in the state.

FEMA offered no comment for the decision. The state is expected to appeal.

The wildfires are the worst in the state’s history, as property damage is expected to exceed the $250 million estimates made last month. Some of the fires are still burning.

A major disaster declaration allows for cost-sharing for damage, cleanup and rebuilding between the state and federal government. It also activates federal programs led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

California did not ask for a specific dollar amount because damage estimates are not complete, Ferguson said.

“The true cost won’t be known for months or years afterward,” he said.

He added: “What the state is looking for is the highest level of federal support, which requires the highest bars be cleared. But we feel our case for those requirements has been met.”

Thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed, many of them uninsured.

Newsom also said funds would go toward helping rebuild public infrastructure, miles of roads, parks, signs and fire shelters.

“Many of the counties impacted by these wildfires are still recovering from previous devastating wildfires, storms and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Newsom wrote.

He added, “Californians are exhausted.”

The state is expected to run a staggering $54 billion budget deficit largely due to the pandemic. The twin hits of the coronavirus and the massive wildfires mean the state is probably going to get some money from Washington. How much will be up to Trump.

Trump has made no secret of his disdain for the state’s political establishment. The mayors of Los Angeles and San Francisco have personally criticized the president, and Governor Newsom has defied Washington on several occasions.

But is that any reason to take out your frustrations on ordinary people?

Donald Trump will lose the state of California in a landslide on November 3. It is a very liberal Democratic state that opposes his policies on everything from immigration to environmental issues.

But there are millions of Republicans in the state who would also be hurt if the feds deny California the disaster relief funds. What would be the point of that?

In fact, it’s petty and small of the president to carry on a personal vendetta against California to the point that innocent people are hurt. Using the power of the federal government to exact revenge on his political enemies may make him and his supporters feel good, but it’s not the American way and never has been.

How Charitable Billionaire Robert Smith Got Away With Cheating Taxes For 15 Years

Billionaire Robert Smith is likely best known for his charitable stunts, such as vowing to pay off the debts of Morehouse College’s entire graduating class last year.

That clean image may run into trouble due to a recent agreement with the IRS showing that Smith lied for years to avoid paying taxes. Smith reportedly used false statements, forged paper trails, and also used a network of offshore accounts.

He will only avoid prosecution due to compliance with a larger tax avoidance investigation into Robert Brockman, recently accused of the largest tax avoidance case against an individual in U.S. history. Smith will also pay $139 million in back taxes, fees, and interest. He agreed to drop $182 million in tax refund claims due to purported charitable contributions, as well.

Federal officials announced the agreement Thursday, saying that Smith had been under investigation for over four years. Smith admitted to them that he had used millions in untaxed funds to buy and renovate real estate properties. He spent $2.5 million on a California vacation home in 2005, using untaxed income stored in the British Virgin Islands and the Swiss Banque Bonhote.

Five years later, Smith moved to Switzerland, using the money in his Swiss account to buy two ski properties and a commercial estate. He eventually moved back to the U.S., living now in Austin, Texas.

He took more than $13 million back with him. He states that he used the money “to build a home and make improvements to property that he owned in Colorado and to fund charitable activities on that property for inner-city children and wounded veterans.”

Federal Court Rebukes D.C. Mayor's Double Standard on Church Services and BLM Protests

Last week, the District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that Capitol Hill Baptist Church (CHBC) can resume outdoor services despite Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser’s coronavirus restrictions. In his ruling, Judge Trevor McFadden implicitly rebuked Bowser for encouraging one type of gathering — Black Lives Matter protests — while cracking down on religious gatherings.

“No matter how the protests were organized and planned, the District’s (and in particular, Mayor Bowser’s) support for at least some mass gatherings undermines its contention that it has a compelling interest in capping the number of attendees at the Church’s outdoor services,” McFadden wrote.

Bowser’s COVID-19 restrictions prohibit church services with more than 100 people (originally they only allowed services with 10 people or fewer).CHBC, an 853-member church in D.C., requested permission to meet at the 45,000-plus-seat Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, which would give them ample room to social distance, but the city refused the church’s request. On September 22, CHBC filed a lawsuit and requested a temporary restraining order preventing Bowser from penalizing them for gathering.

CHBC cited the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which requires the government to meet strict scrutiny when abridging religious liberty. This means the government must prove that it has a compelling state interest and that its restrictions are the “least restrictive means” of meeting that interest.

The judge ruled that CHBC is likely to prevail in its lawsuit since Bowser’s double standard on the protests undercuts her claim to have a compelling state interest to prevent gatherings to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Consider the District’s response to mass protests over the past year, which included thousands of citizens marching through the streets of the city, including along streets that the District closed specifically for that purpose,” McFadden noted. “And the Mayor appeared at one of the mass gatherings, ‘welcom[ing]’ hundreds if not thousands of protestors tightly packed into Black Lives Matter Plaza and announcing that it was ‘so wonderful to see everybody peacefully protesting, wearing [their] mask[s].'”

The judge also noted that Bowser “christened ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza’ when ‘she directed the D.C. Department of Public Works to create a mural on 16th Street N.W., near the White House, to ‘honor the peaceful protesters from June 1, 2020 and send a message that District streets are a safe space for peaceful protestors.””

Indeed, Bowser directed staff to paint “Black Lives Matter” on the road across from the White House in an act of state-sanctioned graffiti.

“The Mayor’s apparent encouragement of these protests also implies that the District favors some gatherings (protests) over others (religious services),” McFadden argued. “When faced with similar facts in a First Amendment challenge, another court explained that high-profile government officials encouraging and participating in protests ‘sent a clear message that mass protests are deserving of preferential treatment,'” the judge added, citing Soos v. Cuomo (2020).

In that case, the court noted that Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio “could have ‘been silent’ or ‘could have just as easily discouraged protests, short of condemning their message, in the name of public health,'” but they did not take either of these courses.

Canadian TV Network Sued After ‘Falsely Accusing’ Independent News Site Of Being Part Of Russian Cyber Operation

Consortium News, which frequently covers WikiLeaks and various whistleblower stories, has sued Global News for “falsely accusing” the media organization of “being part of a cyber-influence campaign directed by Russia.”

As the lawsuit [PDF] filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia indicates, on December 10, 2019, Global News allegedly spread “false, unfair, and inaccurate statements” that held Consortium News “up to scorn, ridicule, and contempt in the industry.”

The statements suggested Consortium News was responsible for “grossly unethical behavior, dishonesty, lack of integrity, conspiracy,” and the organization was unfit to publish in the news media.

During January, libel notices were sent to Global News and the Communications Security Establishment (CSE). The notices demanded a retraction of any mention of Consortium News as well as an apology.

Consortium News editor-in-chief Joe Lauria said at the time, “We’ve been targeted before, but never in this most overt way by a named powerful Five Eyes intelligence agency and a major television station.”

Global News reported on “secret intelligence records” they obtained and claimed the files showed Russia as a “hostile foreign state” that targeted Canada with “cyber influence” campaigns.

One file from the CSE said “the first attack was a February 2017 report in the ‘online Consortium News’ followed ‘in quick succession’ by pro-Russian English language and Russian-language online media.”

In other words, the mere fact that certain Russian media organizations took an interest in a report by Consortium News was considered an indication that the independent outlet was “involved” in a campaign directed by a foreign power.

The file referred to a report Consortium News published on February 27, 2017, titled, “A Nazi Skeleton in the Family Closet,” about Chrystia Freeland, who is currently the finance minister in Canada.

CN truthfully reported that Freeland concealed the dark family secret that her grandfather, Mykhailo Chomiak, faithfully served Nazi Germany right up to its surrender, and Chomiak’s family only moved to Canada after the Third Reich was defeated by the Soviet Union’s Red Army and its allies – the U.S. and Great Britain.”

“CN truthfully reported that Freeland’s grandfather was not a victim of the war. To the contrary, he was on the side of the German aggressors who collaborated with Ukrainian nationalists in killing Russians, Jews, Poles and other minorities. Hertz Snags $1.65 Billion Financing Deal: Here’s What It Means For The Car Rental Company

After filing for bankruptcy in May, Hertz has been given a lifeline with $1.65 billion in debtor-in-possession (DIP) financing.

The rental car company’s share price soared nearly 130% on Friday with news of the financing deal. Hertz has filed for approval of the DIP financing in a Delaware bankruptcy court, with a hearing slated for Oct. 29.

The financing will help Hertz move through the Chapter 11 process with up to $1 billion dedicated to equity for vehicle acquisition in the U.S. and Canada and up to $800 million for working capital and general corporate purposes.

The financing was provided by some of Hertz’s creditors and is subject to approval by the bankruptcy court, the company said.

Hertz found itself in Chapter 11 bankruptcy as the coronavirus bite down on the travel industry. As business and leisure travelers stopped traveling because of the pandemic, Hertz’s sales plummeted, causing the company to seek bankruptcy protection.

Hertz President and CEO Paul Stone said: “This new financing will provide additional financial flexibility as we continue to navigate the pandemic's effects on the travel industry and take steps to best position our business for the future. We are pleased with the strong interest from our pre-petition first-lien lenders and appreciate their support of Hertz and our future opportunities as a rental car leader.”

Shares of Hertz were trading at $2.3591 as of 1:22 p.m. EDT, up $1.3291 or $129.0388.

‘This is China, Inc.’: Emails Reveal Hunter Biden’s Associates Helped Communist-Aligned Chinese Elites Secure White House Meetings

Newly obtained emails from a Hunter Biden business partner lay out in detail how the Vice President’s son and his colleagues used their access to the Obama-Biden administration to arrange private meetings for potential foreign clients and investors at the highest levels in the White House. These never-before-revealed emails outline how a delegation of Chinese investors and Communist Party officials managed to secure a private, off-the-books meeting with then-Vice President Joe Biden.

In a 2011 email, Hunter Biden’s business associates also discussed developing relations with what one called “China Inc.” as part of a “new push on soft diplomacy for the Chinese.” These emails are completely unconnected to the Hunter Biden emails being released by the New York Post.

These and more explosive never-before-revealed emails were provided to Schweizer by Bevan Cooney, a one-time Hunter Biden and Devon Archer business associate. Cooney is currently in prison serving a sentence for his involvement in a 2016 bond fraud investment scheme.

In 2019, Cooney reached out to Schweizer after becoming familiar with the revelations in his 2018 book Secret Empires. Cooney explained that he believes he was the “fall guy” for the fraud scheme and that Archer and Hunter Biden had avoided responsibility.

Archer, who was also convicted in the case, saw a federal judge vacate his conviction. But an appellate court overturned the lower court judge’s ruling, reinstating Archer’s conviction in the case. Archer, Hunter Biden’s longtime business partner, awaits sentencing.

Cooney, their associate who is currently serving a prison sentence on his conviction in the matter, later reestablished contact with Schweizer through investigative journalist Matthew Tyrmand. From prison, Cooney provided Schweizer with written authorization, his email account name, and password to his Gmail account to retrieve these emails. He authorized, in writing, the publication of these emails— notable because it is the first time a close associate has publicly confirmed Hunter’s trading on his father’s influence.

The emails offer a unique window into just how the Biden universe conducted business during the Obama-Biden Administration. These associates sought to trade on Hunter Biden’s relationship with, and access to, his father and the Obama-Biden White House in order to generate business.

For instance, on November 5, 2011, one of Archer’s business contacts forwarded him an email teasing an opportunity to gain “potentially outstanding new clients” by helping to arrange White House meetings for a group of Chinese executives and government officials. The group was the China Entrepreneur Club (CEC) and the delegation included Chinese billionaires, Chinese Communist Party loyalists, and at least one “respected diplomat” from Beijing. Despite its benign name, CEC has been called “a second foreign ministry” for the People’s Republic of China—a communist government that closely controls most businesses in its country. CEC was established in 2006 by a group of businessmen and Chinese government diplomats.

Facebook Maintains Low Profile After Censoring Bombshell Biden Story

Following Facebook and Twitter’s decision to censor a recent bombshell article from the New York Post about Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter, Facebook has remained mostly silent about the issue as Twitter has dominated the headlines with its link blocking, suspension of prominent media & politicians, and policy changes.

Breitbart News recently reported on the New York Post’s bombshell story that indicated that Joe Biden may have met with an adviser to the board of Burisma while he was Vice President, arranged by his son Hunter, who was working as a lobbyist for the company at the time. Joe Biden has previously said, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”

But, the leaked emails allegedly show that Hunter introduced his father to a Bursima executive less than a year before Biden, acting as Vice President, pressured the Ukrainian government into firing a prosecutor who was investigating the company. Shortly after the story broke, many found themselves having trouble sharing it across social media. This censorship comes just weeks after executives from both Facebook and Twitter joined the Biden transition team.

Facebook and Twitter immediately went to work censoring the story across their platforms, in a tweet Andy Stone, who works for communications at Facebook and is a former Democrat staffer, stated that Facebook would be reducting the story’s distribution until third-party fact-checkers had verified the report, a level of scrutiny not often applied to news stories on Facebook:

Mark Levin: Joe Biden a Nasty Human Being Who Lied His Way to Power

Mark Levin described Joe Biden as “a very nasty human being,” while reflecting on the former vice president’s decades-long political career on Friday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

Levin, author of Unfreedom of the Press, and host of his eponymous radio show, BlazeTV’s LevinTV, and Fox News Channel’s Life, Liberty, and Levin, contrasted Biden’s character and record with those of President Donald Trump.

“Joe Biden has spent his long career in Washington, DC, coddling up to segregationists, doing the most awful things as a senator, trying to destroy the families and characters of men who’ve come up to serve this country, Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, and others,” Levin said.

As senator, Biden chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee and led the Democrats’ campaign against Republican Supreme Court nominees.

“Joe Biden has been accused of rape by Tara Reade — rape — it’s what she’s accusing him of, and nobody cares. Meanwhile, anything that is said about the president results in some kind of a criminal investigation,” Levin added.

“Joe Biden is a very nasty human being. He always has been a very nasty human being. He has lied his way into power. He’s been a plagiarist. He has cheated on exams in law school. He has stolen words out of Robert Kennedy’s mouth. He is a man who is desperate to be President of the United States, and this is his third run,” Levin said.

A 1987 Associated Press report documented Biden’s lies about his academic record. According to the report, “Sen. Joe Biden claimed during a campaign appearance in New Hampshire last spring that he finished in the top half of his law school class, although records indicate he finished near the bottom.”

Biden also admitted to plagiarism in 1987. The Washington Post reported at the time, “An emotional Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) yesterday acknowledged he had plagiarized in a paper he submitted while a first-year law student in 1965, but defended his integrity and vowed to remain a candidate for his party’s presidential nomination.”

Levin identified Trump’s non-political history as an asset relative to Biden’s near-lifelong involvement in politics. He described Trump’s Twitter communications as reflective of the president’s genuineness.

Japan expected to dump over 1 MILLION TONS of radioactive Fukushima water into Pacific, fishermen fear ‘catastrophic impact’

The Japanese government is planning to release more than one million tons of contaminated radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean, angering fishermen, local media have reported.

Japan has debated what to do with the rapidly increasing store of radioactive wastewater for years, and now the decision to release it into the ocean could be confirmed by the end of the month.

Currently, Japan houses the water in more than 1,000 tanks, but with 170 additional tons of the radioactive by-product being produced every day, storage space is quickly running out.

It is estimated that all tanks will have reached maximum capacity by the summer of 2022 and Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said on Friday that the decision was one they could “not keep delaying,” Kyodo News reported.

The water is used to cool the Fukushima nuclear reactor core, which went into meltdown after the catastrophic 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck the plant.

The government previously considered building more tanks to house the additional water, or attempting to evaporate the water into the atmosphere, but an advisory panel recommended releasing it into the ocean as the most efficient solution. However, the release process is not expected to begin until 2022 and is likely to take 30 years to complete.

The prospect of an ocean release has reignited concerns among local fishermen who fear it could destroy their industry.

“We are terrified that if even one fish is found to have exceeded the [radiation] safety standards after the treated water is released, people’s trust in us will plummet,” Kyodo News quoted a local fisherman as saying.

Hiroshi Kishi, who heads a confederation of Japanese fishing cooperatives told officials last week that the release could have a “catastrophic impact” on the industry.

Fishing was completely halted following the 2011 disaster, and despite a recent recovery, fishermen in the region continue to face international trade restrictions. South Korea, which still bans all fish imports from the region, has described the proposal as a “grave threat.”

The initial meltdown in 2011 forced the evacuation of 150,000 people from within 20km of the plant as well as from outside areas that experienced high levels of fallout. The clean-up process is expected to take many more years to complete.

Nakhichevan, formally known the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, is a 5,500 km2 landlocked region of Azerbaijan. The region lays between Armenia and Iran.

In a brief statement, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan claimed a tactical ballistic missile was launched on October 16 by Armenian forces from Gubadli in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The missile allegedly struck the area of Ordubad in Nakhchivan.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenian quickly dismissed Azerbaijan’s claims, accusing the Baku’s military and political leadership of lying.

“We declare that no missile was fired in the direction of the Ordubad region of Nakhichevan,” Shushan Stepanyan, Press Secretary of the Armenian MoD, said “this is another lie of the Azerbaijani military-political leadership, which aims to expand the geography of the conflict.”

The supposed missile strike on Nakhchivan was likely a stray fire accident. Since the outbreak of the battle in Nagorno-Karabakh, dozens of projectiles and even drones landed in Iran’s territory by mistake.

Azerbaijan may be indeed planning to expand the geography of the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh to cover the Armenian regions separating its territory from Nakhchivan.

Poll finds just 15% of Americans confident in US democracy, as partisan divisions only grow ahead of presidential vote

Less than one-sixth of US voters believe that American democracy is working “very well,” while most Americans seem to agree that their society is extremely divided about its core values, a new survey has shown.

Almost three quarters of registered voters believe the nation “is headed in the wrong direction,”says a poll conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, the latter being a self-described non-partisan research group at the University of Chicago. It’s based on interviews with 1,121 eligible voters from all the US states and the District of Columbia.

The absolute majority, or 85 percent, said that the American society is “greatly divided” over the most important values and just over one third expects things to get somewhat better in the coming years.

The poll also revealed a perceived sorry state of US democracy, with only 15 percent of the respondents saying it still worked “extremely or very well.” Another 36 percent said it still is keeping afloat while a total of 49 percent admitted it either does not look particularly good to them or is no good at all. Supporters of President Donald Trump appeared to be much more confident in US democracy than those of his Democratic opponent in the November 3 election, Joe Biden.

The partisan divide was also clearly showing in predictions of the future, with 76 percent of Trump supporters believing a Biden election victory would only worsen the existing divisions and 91 percent of Biden backers saying the same of a Trump win. Neither candidate is seen by the majority of respondents as capable of uniting the nation or strengthening its democratic principles.

A significant number of respondents were also concerned about potential violations at the upcoming elections. More than a half of Biden’s supporters are more or less confident that the vote count would be accurate. This figure, however, falls down to just 28 percent when it comes to Trump’s backers.

The pro-Biden respondents also appear to be more concerned over potential voter suppression, while those supporting Trump cite voter fraud and an ability of supposedly non-eligible people to vote as the major problem. A Pew Research poll held back in early 2020 showed that almost 60 percent of Americans were dissatisfied with the way US democracy was working at that time.

EXCLUSIVE: 1-On-1 With Rudy Giuliani — What Haven’t We Seen From The Hunter Biden Hard Drive, And Why Won’t He Release It In Full?

New York City — Direct evidence implicating former Vice President Joe Biden in a pay-for-play corruption scandal will be released to the public 10 days prior to the 2020 election, Rudy Giuliani told Daily Caller’s senior White House correspondent Christian Datoc in an exclusive interview.

The former New York City mayor spoke Thursday evening with Datoc about all of the new allegations raised by emails and text messages alleged to have been pulled from a hard drive previously owned by Hunter Biden. Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, did not deny that this is a political hit job. He said the reason he is releasing it slowly is to catch Biden in “lies” as his campaign denies the allegations.

Datoc pressed him to release a copy of the hard drive in full so that the Daily Caller could verify it, but Giuliani declined.

Giuliani further accused Datoc’s questions about the veracity of the information originally published by the New York Post as “pettifogging nonsense” pushed by the “liberal press” and that asking those questions is a “load of crap.”

“We can deal with the process all you want, but nobody dealt with the process when they stole Donald Trump’s tax returns and published it without verifying anything, and they don’t even have an unnamed source for it,” he continued. “What’s the difference between that and this? This has three people on the record, now four. It’s a hard drive and text messages. If you read them, it’s almost impossible it’s not Hunter Biden’s.”

Though he claimed the information he said he will release in the coming weeks will effectively end Biden’s election chances within 10 days of election day, he would not commit to ever releasing the hard drive in its entirety to be inspected by the media.

Giuliani says the hard drive originally came into his possession after the Mac Shop owner created four copies to distribute to his friends because he feared for his life. He passed along the original, physical hard drive to the FBI, and finally handed over the copy in Giuliani’s possession to Robert Costello, Giuliani’s attorney, months later. He claims the shop owner attempted to give it to other Republican operatives but no one would take it.

Giuliani claims the hard drive corroborates a tip he received from a confidential informant about a secret meeting between Hunter Biden and former Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken at the State Department that violates the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). In total, he claims the hard drive includes “six or seven” FARA violations.

Giuliani claimed that text messages sent by Hunter Biden indicate a “kickback” program where he sent “half of his salary” back to Joe Biden, “which is a Chinese method of corruption.” He did not answer questions about whether there were bank documents or other evidence supporting that claim contained on the hard drive.

CEOs Of Facebook, Twitter, Google Will Attend Oct. 28 Senate Hearing

At least two of the tech titans who appeared before the House Antitrust Subcommittee back in July will return to Capitol Hill on Oct. 28, accompanied this time by Twitter's Jack Dorsey, as they sit for a hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee, to dig into what happened this week as Big Tech - Facebook, Twitter and Google - appeared to blatantly and aggressively work together to smother a story about Hunter Biden's seedy international business dealings which included incriminating emails and photos that the MSM has denounced as "hacked".

Though there's so far no evidence that the materials published by the NY Post were obtained by hackers, the tech companies continued with the practice for at least two days, until Jack Dorsey earlier apologized for the second time.

All three CEOs agreed to appear voluntarily.

Meanwhile, Sen. Josh Hawley has filed a complaint with the FCC, and is urging the Trump Administration to make a formal complaint against the companies.

After Twitter and Facebook first censored posts from the president earlier this year, he issued an executive order attacking their Section 230 liability shield from the 1996 Communications Decency Act.

Turkey Fires S-400 Missiles From Black Sea Coast In First Test

Missiles have been fired in the Black Sea region where S-400 tests were scheduled to take place on Friday, according to video footage

Turkey has initiated its Russian-made S-400 defense systems test on Friday, as confirmed in local video circulating and confirmed by Reuters.

"The video, taken in the coastal city of Sinop, showed a narrow column of smoke headed high into the blue sky," Reuters reports. "In recent days Turkey had issued notices restricting air space and waters off the coastal area to allow firing tests."

It's likely to stoke further tensions with Washington, given recent warnings and threats not to carry through with it or take the Russian-made systems operational, which Ankara has said it plans to do by April 2020.

All flights have been banned in the area running east of the test field at an altitude less than 25,000 feet, according to Turkish aviation notices this week.

The tests were expected to run anywhere between Wednesday through Friday of this week.

Throughout the whole S-400 and F-35 diplomatic saga and standoff of 2019 which took US-Turkey relations to an all-time low, compounded by Turkey's attacks on Syrian Kurds which were being supported by US troops in northern Syria, Ankara didn't blink under US threats of potential sanctions or other punitive action. This even as Washington offered the Patriot system as an alternative to Russian air defenses.

US Budget Deficit Triples To Record $3.1 Trillion In 2020 As US Spends 90% More Than It Collects

Those who have been following the record surge in US public debt (excluding the roughly $100 trillion in off-balance sheet obligations), which exploded by $3 trillion in the three months following the covid shutdowns and which just hit an all time high $27.1 trillion this week, will be all too aware that the US budget deficit this year - and every year after - will be staggering.

Sure enough, in the latest just released deficit report, the Treasury announced that in September the US burned through another $124.6BN, which while modestly better than the $200.1 billion deficit reported in August, was a whopping 50% more than the $82.8 billion deficit last September.

Specifically according to the Treasury, in August, government outlays were $497.8 billion, up $74 billion from the $423.3 billion spent in August, and a whopping 71% more than the $291 billion the US spent last September…

… while receipts rebounded from the $223.2 billion received in August to $373.2 billion, and effectively identical to the $374 billion collected last September (the question of why anyone still pays taxes in a time of helicopter money, when the Fed simply purchases whatever debt the Treasury issues, remains).

Rudy Giuliani Describes the Bidens as a Crime Family. Here's Why We Should Listen to Him.

Rudy Giuliani is all over the news these days, detailing the emails and documents on that MacBook Pro laptop purported to have belonged to Hunter Biden. According to Giuliani, only about 5% of the hard drive’s relevant content has been published. That 5% already paints Joe Biden as either the figurehead or director of a conspiracy to use his political positions to generate millions of dollars from dubious and even hostile foreign sources, with son Hunter as the prime conduit. The money goes to the Biden family.

It’s an explosive charge. The Democratic Party’s presidential nominee could be the head of a syndicate trading on U.S. power as a product. Such would also greatly endanger American national security and corrupt our government at the very highest level.

But why is Rudy Giuliani the one who’s talking about it? What’s he got to do with all this?

According to the New York Post, the computer repairman who noticed the “disturbing” files on the laptop imaged its hard drive and gave that image to Giuliani via his attorney.

This makes more sense than it may seem. Giuliani has been out of office for decades now and most people probably see him as a talking head and surrogate for Donald Trump. Some may remember his unsuccessful run for president in 2000.

But Rudy Giuliani is much more than that.

In 1989, when Rudolph Giuliani stepped down after six years as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, he was perhaps the most famous law enforcement official in the United States. He left a legacy of successful prosecutions of leaders of New York’s “Commission” of organized crime families, the Mafia’s international heroin and cocaine ring in the “Pizza Connection” case, as well as high-profile political corruption and Wall Street criminal cases.

The short version is, Giuliani became #3 in the U.S. Justice Department under President Reagan, then was named the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and went to war against the mafia in 1983. He and his prosecutors systematically dismantled the mob over the course of the next six years. He took down mob bosses and henchmen, forced the corrupt Teamsters union to de-mobify and hold fair elections, and he also prosecuted corrupt politicians and inside traders on Wall Street. During the 1980s, Rudy Giuliani was arguably the best and most successful prosecutor in the world.

He unsuccessfully ran for New York mayor as a Republican in 1989, ran again in 1993, and won. Rudy’s time as mayor was the city’s rebirth. New York had descended into a deep violent crime problem over the course of decades of liberal Democrat rule and mob and union corruption. In the course of a few years, he fought crime and cleaned the city up. When he was term-limited out, Michael Bloomberg switched from Democrat to Republican and ran on a platform that amounted to saying he would do what Rudy did.

Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio has turned his back on Giuliani’s methods, and New York is suffering for it. Murder is getting out of control again.

Air Force to Pay Out $25 Million for Accidental F-16 Strafing Run That Killed Contractor

The family of a U.S. contractor accidentally killed during an Air Force live-fire training exercise will receive nearly $25 million from the U.S. government, a district judge ruled this week.

Charles Holbrook, a retired master sergeant and former Tactical Air Control Party airman, died Jan. 31, 2017, at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, after an F-16 Fighting Falcon student pilot incorrectly identified the target location during the nighttime training, instead shooting at Holbrook's location, according to court documents.

Holbrook, who was working as a contractor for Sensors Unlimited, now a division of Raytheon Technologies, was killed when the student "mistook the line of rental cars for the similarly aligned target and was ordered to fire at the group, blowing up one of the rental cars and striking Holbrook in the head with a 20 mm round," the records show. The news was first reported by the Alamogordo Daily News.

Holbrook died several hours later at the hospital.

The exercise involved the student and an instructor pilot, both only identified as 'John Does' in the report. The training was meant to reenact a "close air support scenario where F-16 fighter jets would attack with live ammunition an enemy position when 'friendlies' were nearby," according to the documents.

In all, there were four jets in the air – two instructors and two student pilots each in their own F-16 fighter. There were 10 people on the ground, some of them in training to direct air-support fire.

"These groups had never worked together before," the documents say.

The pilot going in for the attack was inexperienced in this type of training, the documents say. It was the student's "first night close air support mission, first use of night vision goggles while piloting the aircraft, and the first time he would be performing a nighttime high-angle strafe of unlit targets."

The ground crew was positioned at an observation post less than half a mile away from the intended training target, which was in "almost identical configuration as the target." The real target was a line of vehicles on a dirt circle.

Most of the people on the ground were Joint Terminal Attack Controllers, who are qualified to identify targets and call for close-air support. Holbrook was invited to demonstrate a laser imaging device for three JTACS from the Dutch Air Force.

Military suicides were up slightly in the first half of this year

The number of troops taking their own lives has increased slightly so far this year, according to the most recent Defense Department data available, with 12 more service members dying by suicide in the first half of 2020 than had in the same time period in 2019.

DoD reports 306 suicides in the first and second quarters of this year, which represents a 1-percent increase from 2019. But it includes a 4-percent uptick in the period from April to June, as well as a 14-percent spike on the active-duty side.

“The DoD recognizes the potential impact of COVID-19 on the well-being of our Service members and families,” according to the 2nd quarter report, released Thursday. “We are closely monitoring potential impacts and proactive steps to mitigate those potential impacts from COVID-19.”

Last month, Army officials told the Associated Press that they had experienced a summertime spike in suicides, setting off alarm bells about how the coronavirus pandemic ― and the relentless stress of 2020 in general ― is affecting troops.

“I can’t say scientifically, but what I can say is — I can read a chart and a graph, and the numbers have gone up in behavioral health-related issues,” Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told AP.

Though DoD will not released 3rd quarter numbers until early next year, an official told CNN earlier this month that that 35 active-duty soldiers died by suicide in July alone, compared to 43 in the previous three months, and 38 in the three before that.

The DoD numbers show 81 Army suicides through June, and 114 through the end of August, CNN reported, up from 88 total during the same eight months in 2019.

Brady White's Cop Confessions 2: 'There Is a Mass Exodus in Law Enforcement, Nationwide'

My name is “Brady White.” It’s not my real name but I am currently a police officer in a major city. If I were to write this under my real name I’d be reassigned, investigated, suspended, or possibly even fired.

I am taking on a risk by writing these columns. But the reason I do so is twofold: One, I can’t remain silent anymore and; two, because the public needs to know what the day-to-day front-line patrol officer deals with.

There is a mass exodus in law enforcement. Nationwide.

Read that again. Let it sink in.

Let me explain.

Every week men and women are leaving departments. Retirements, medical disability pensions, officers killed in the line of duty. But now people are also taking early retirements, leaving before they become vested in a pension system and going into another career field. Those who are vested in the pension system? Most are hanging on and counting down the days, weeks, months, and years. I’ve talked to many and they don’t blame anyone for getting out.

For whatever reason, separations this year are through the roof. COVID-19, civil unrest, the loss of qualified immunity like in Colorado, fear of a civil suit for doing your job within policy ruining not only your finances, but the financial future of your family (see: Atlanta and their corrupt DA). Some cops have had it, and I honestly can’t blame them.

When I first came on the street I loved coming to work. We were still on the tail end of being able to be proactive, and we were allowed to be police. There wasn’t as much administrative red tape designed to prohibit us from making arrests.

Now, in the face of COVID19 and BLM/Antifa riots and general anti-law enforcement sentiment, we are encouraged to use any tool other than a physical arrest whenever possible.

Via LinkedIn, the Dallas Police Department just graduated Class 371. The class added three officers to the force. In the largest city in Texas. They essentially replaced attrition losses for one week. Via a source with the NYPD, there are so many Officers retiring that they simply cannot process all the separations right now. They don’t have enough people to do all the paperwork so there are literally people waiting in line like they’re ordering cold cuts at a deli to retire from the largest police department in the United States.
