Disney slap racism warnings on classic films Peter Pan, Dumbo and The Jungle Book due to 'negative racial depictions and mistreatment of people or cultures'

Disney has slapped racism warnings on some of its most iconic movies including Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.

Viewers are now alerted to sensitive scenes involving what it perceives to be racial or outdated ethnic stereotypes.

A disclaimer reads: 'This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures.

'These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.'

Classic films and TV shows have received intense scrutiny this year as Black Lives Matter protests thrust racial issues under the spotlight.

In June Sky plastered 'outdated values' disclaimers on 16 of its films as recent as the 2016 remake of the Jungle Book.

Movies to include the warning are 1970 musical comedy The Aristocats, 1955 canine love story Lady and the Tramp and 1960 adventure Swiss Family Robinson.

In relation to The Aristocats - a film about a group of musical felines - Disney warns viewers about a scene where one of the cats, who is voiced by a white actor, chants out stereotypical Chinese 'words' while playing the piano with chopsticks.

Meanwhile Peter Pan viewers are warned that Native Americans Indians are referred to as 'redskins'.

Disney claim scenes in which Peter and The Lost Boys dance in native American headdresses are a 'form of mockery and appropriation of Native peoples' culture and imagery.'

The Jungle Book, a 1967 adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's novel, has also been highlighted, namely for its depiction of the ape King Louie, which has been accused of perpetuating a stereotype of African Americans.

Bloomberg donates $250,000 to boost Jewish support for Biden in Florida

Donation to Jewish Democratic Council of America's Super PAC seeks to reinforce American Jews' support for Biden and fellow Democrats

Billionaire businessman and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg donated $250,000 to a Jewish Super PAC in Florida to support Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden just weeks before the November election.

The Jewish Democratic Council of America's (JDCA) Super Political Action Committee, which represents Jewish Democratic Party supporters, announced the sizable donation on Thursday. The $250,000 is to support the group's digital outreach campaign targeting in Florida.

Bloomberg, who briefly ran for president during the Democratic primaries, vowed in September to spend $100m in Florida so that the Biden campaign could focus spending in other states.

"Every vote will matter in Florida, and Jewish voters in Florida have the chance to vote for a president who will unite us, not divide us," Bloomberg tweeted on Thursday.

While the donation was welcomed by the JDCA, the American Jewish community needs little persuading to vote Democrat.

A Pew Research poll released on Tuesday found that 70 percent of US Jews plan to support Biden, compared with 27 percent who plan to vote for Trump - in line with American Jews' historic support for Democrats.

"We know Jewish voters overwhelmingly support Democrats and we know they turn out to vote. We also know how to reach them in order to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and we won’t stop until we ensure victory in November," JDCA chairman and former US Democratic congressman from Florida Ron Klein said of Bloomberg's donation.

With 29 electoral votes, Florida is one of the key swing states during presidential elections and is turning into a fierce battleground this year.

The state has a large Jewish population in comparison with others, making up about 4.2 percent of the electorate, but it is also home to one of the largest concentrations of seniors, who were a major force in Trump's first win.

In 2016, exit polls showed more than half of all voters over 65 supported Trump; this year, support among seniors is lagging, according to polls.

A CNN poll earlier this month showed Biden with a 21-point advantage over Trump among voters 65 and older. Trump won Florida by less than 113,000 votes in 2016, so even a slight dip in support could cost him the state and perhaps the election - something Bloomberg is counting on.

Facebook COO pledges $2.5 mill to Israel advocacy group, brushing off Palestinian complaints of censorship

In the midst of a campaign by Palestinian journalists accusing Facebook of suppressing their content, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, has pledged $2.5 million to the ADL, an organization that devotes much of its work to Israel advocacy.

We’ll first look at the complaints about censorship, then at the ADL, and then at Sandberg.

The current campaign is the latest in a long line of complaints that Facebook discriminates against Palestinian users.

A 2016 Fortune magazine article reported accusations that a Facebook agreement with the Israeli government had led to the closing of some Palestinian accounts.

A 2017 article in The Intercept reported: “Facebook has been on a censorship rampage against Palestinian activists who protest the decades-long, illegal Israeli occupation, all directed and determined by Israeli officials. Indeed, Israeli officials have been publicly boasting about how obedient Facebook is when it comes to Israeli censorship orders.”

In 2018 there were reports that Facebook had closed 500 Facebook pages of Palestinian activists, journalists and bloggers.

This month a campaign called “Facebook Blocks Palestine” was launched by Palestinian journalists and activists saying that Facebook restrictions against Palestinian pages had “dramatically increased,” including deleting pages and accounts, removing posts, banning comments sections, restricting pages, blocking live streaming, etc.

Colorado man sentenced to 300+ years for human trafficking

A 30-year-old Colorado man was just handed one of the longest sentences ever for human trafficking.

At 304 years, human trafficking and forgery ring leader Chauncey Price will spend the rest of his life and then some in prison. Douglas County District Court Judge Theresa Slade announced the sentence during a hearing Oct. 8, 10 months after Price was found guilty on 13 counts, including human trafficking for sexual servitude andcriminal attempt to commit pimping of a child.

During his trial, three of his victims recounted their nightmarish ordeal at his hands, forced into having sex with strangers for money that they then had to turn over to Price. The customers were found through ads that Price and his accomplices would place online, ads that offered up women and girls for sex.

“Chauncey promised to take care of me,” one of his victims said in a statement she read at the sentencing. "At first he paid for my drug habit and food and let me stay for free. But nothing is free. … He threatened to kill my sister if I didn’t work for him – that is when he turned me out. He kept pushing me to sleep with more and more men, up to eight a day. … I couldn’t even use the bathroom without someone watching me. Once I didn’t eat for three days.

"… I want to make it clear that I came forward to save others from him. … He exploited young girls, controlled them and manipulated them. He will continue to do that if he ever gets out.”

Senior deputy district attorney for the 18th Judicial District Kelley Dziedzic asked the judge for a 300-year sentence.

“Any reasonable good person would have looked at these victims and would have extended sympathy or empathy, but Price only looked at them and saw opportunity. His victims will live with the repercussions of his actions for the rest of their lives. They have a lifelong struggle ahead of them.

"He has been given deferred judgments and had them revoked. He has had probation revoked. He had community corrections revoked. He was in prison, and he committed new acts while out on parole. While out on bond in this case, he tried to contact one of his victims. He has repeatedly turned his back on opportunities for rehabilitation. … In this case that stretched over nearly a year, he had numerous chances to step away, but he never chose to change his behavior.”

“Traffickers trade in flesh and destroy souls, by using up their victims to further their criminal enterprises, with no regard whatsoever for the lives of fellow human beings,” said 18th Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler. “What possible rehabilitation can there be for someone who repeatedly and wantonly engages in this inhuman conduct? Spoiler alert: There is none. This is why we build prisons.”

Where Price will now spend the rest of his life.

“This is not a normal sentence, but this was not a normal crime. You are not a defendant who deserves a minimum sentence,” Slade told Price during sentencing. “You were a master at victimizing these women. … There is absolutely nothing this court can do to make these women whole.”

New Campaign Filings Show Ilhan Omar Rigging The Game To Get Filthy Rich In Public Office

It’s not just by sheer luck or lottery winnings that many lawmakers emerge from a life of public service — on government salaries, mind you — as millionaires who enjoy a life of opulence and comfort after serving their constituents.

It’s especially curious how some of these lawmakers, specifically the ones who entered high-level elected positions without any wealth to speak of, emerge with bank accounts full of cash, expensive houses and full-time wait staff, isn’t it?

According to Free Beacon, one easy method to turn that $174,000 per year government salary into millions in accrued wealth is to have your spouse launch a political consulting business, which is then pumped with millions in cash for various services from your campaign warchest. Just ask Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, because that’s exactly what she’s done.

Campaign filings that came out this week showed that Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, who owns the E Street Group had a fantastic year as his wife’s campaign showered his company with $1.1 million in consulting fees. That number accounted for about 70 percent of the $1.6 million doled out by Omar’s campaign since late July.

Even more insane is that in total, for just this election cycle alone, Omar’s campaign has paid out a whopping $2.7 million to her husband’s political consulting firm.

In other words, Omar begs her constituents for their hard-earned money. Her campaign coffers are then fattened thanks to her woke, radical politics. And then she hires hubby’s firm and from what I can tell, it doesn’t look like she cares about getting a family discount because at the end of the day, her personal net worth is boosted beyond measure.

I’m quite confident that the Founders didn’t intend for public service to be used for such a benefit.

Omar has come under fire before for using her husband’s political consulting firm but she has somehow escaped from being held accountable for her despicable actions. One doesn’t have to hold a degree in law to deduce that there might be some level of conflict of interest there, or at least an ethics violation at the very least.

But Omar is no stranger to ethics issues, either. As Free Beacon reported, she’s also facing trouble in the form of an official complaint from the House Ethics Committee over money she received in the form of an advance for the future publishing of her memoir.

Look, we all want to get rich and live the dream. That’s part of the American dream. A lot of hard work and a little bit of luck and you could find yourself living a life you used to dream about. But exploiting loopholes and taking advantage of one’s public office to gain extreme wealth is the dirtiest, most dishonorable way to do it.

The worst part is that she’s doing this right in front of us, with seemingly no real repercussions. She is a prime example of why a vast majority of Americans have virtually zero trust in our public officials, as many of them — especially on the left — seem to only be in it for themselves.

Afghanistan-Bound Convoy Attacked In Northwest Pakistan, NATO Armored Vehicles Torched

Pakistani officials say several armed men have attacked a convoy transporting four armored vehicles for the NATO forces in Afghanistan and set them alight.

The October 16 attack happened on the outskirts of the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, police official Zaheer Afridi told RFE/RL.

Afridi said the attackers opened fire at the convoy to stop it, ordered the drivers to step away, and doused gasoline on the military vehicles.

The four armored vehicles were destroyed while the two trailers on which they were transported were also damaged, he added.

The fire was later put out by firefighters.

Khyber district police officials said security forces had launched a search operation in the area.

RFE/RL correspondent Farhad Shinwari reported that the movement of NATO convoys carrying military equipment and other supplies to troops in Afghanistan have increased in the area in recent days.

Lavrov Has Had It. Proposes Russia Stops Talking to the West

Sergei Lavrov is a man of no gimmicks–if he says something, that means he means it. By definition it also means Kremlin means it. So, today, he says it as it is at Valdai Conference:

It is my long-standing contention that any professional discussion between Lavrov and former gynecologist such as von der Leyen, including Germany’s Foreign Minister Maas, who is a lawyer and a party worm of German politics is a waste of time. Western “elites” and “intellectuals” are simply on a different, much lower level, than said Lavrov.

You do not negotiate with monkeys, you treat them nicely, you make sure that they are not abused, but you don’t negotiate with them, same as you don’t negotiate with toddlers. They want to have their Navalny as their toy–let them. I call on Russia to start wrapping economic activity up with EU for a long time. They buy Russia’s hydrocarbons and hi-tech, fine. Other than that, any other activity should be dramatically reduced and necessity of the Iron Curtain must not be doubted anymore.

I reiterate, there is nothing in common culturally between modern Russia and the West and the gap is growing. Europe is being primed for cultural and demographic suicide, not to speak of institutionalizing degeneracy both in art and in real life, plus the US needs to eat someone to extend its agony for a little bit longer. It is totally logical, and if I need to see Renaissance art, Hermitage gives Louvre a run for its money. EU is a cemetery and one doesn’t do business with cemetery other than burying.

Lavrov’s statement today is important in that it shows that Kremlin has written the current EU off. As I have stated for years, observing events in EU, when I have the time, I totally expect a stream of refugees from Europe to Russia soon, because many still sane Westerners will be faced with a terrifying choice: either adapt to living in Orwellian reality including a fairly fast (in historic term) transition to third world economies and standard of living, or making a decision to regain personal liberty and common sense, and economic stability and opportunity in Russia and those East European nations which will maintain strong economic ties with Russia.

Thousands mass at PM’s residence as major protests resume after restrictions

Demonstration is first major rally since rules banning travel for protests expired Tuesday, with large crowds in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and around country

Anti-government activists streamed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official residence in Jerusalem for the first time in weeks Saturday night, as regular protests looked to resume following a clampdown during Israel’s nationwide virus lockdown.

Media reports put the crowd size at Paris Square in the thousands, and organizers claimed over 15,000 attendees as of 9 p.m.

Demonstrators waved pink banners and Israeli flags, chanting slogans against the prime minister and blowing on vuvuzelas.

“Sheheyanu!” said demonstrator Meir Moscovitch, invoking a Hebrew prayer for auspicious occasions. “We were away for three weeks and now we’re back to call for honesty — not left, not right, honest.”

While police barricades were allowing demonstrators ample space to socially distance, most were tightly clustered close to Balfour Street near Paris Square.

A second anti-corruption protest at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square also drew large crowds.

Arizona DEM Senate Candidate Mark Kelly’s Campaign Spokesman Apologizes for Calling Cops ‘Worthless F@&#ing Pigs’

Imagine if you will, a United States Senate candidate’s official spokesman saying that the police are “Worthless F***ing Pigs.” That actually happened, and the mainstream media isn’t even touching it. If it was a GOP candidate, or a Pro Trump candidate, it would be the #1 story in the media.

The campaign spokesman for the Democrat candidate for he U.S. Senate in Arizona has now apologized for a tweet he wrote just before joining the campaign where he called the police “Worthless F***ing Pigs.”

T.J. L’Heureux, Mr. Kelly’s deputy press secretary, called police “worthless f–ing pigs” in response to a video that showed Chicago police clashing with protesters in August. He joined Mr. Kelly’s campaign one week later.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported the tweet Thursday morning, prompting Mr. L’Heureux to delete the tweet and lock his account.

“I deeply regret my comment and apologize for what I wrote — I was wrong,” he later said in a statement provided to The Arizona Republic. “My comment does not reflect who I am or what I believe, and most importantly, it is not representative of what this campaign stands for. The language I used and the sentiment I conveyed do not belong in our political process, which is why I have deleted the tweet.”

A statement from Mr. Kelly’s communications director, Jacob Peters, said the Senate candidate is the son of two police officers and respects law enforcement, and that disciplinary action was taken as soon as the campaign was made aware of Mr. L’Heureux’s tweet.

“Our campaign values the public service, bravery and sacrifice of police officers across our nation,” Mr. Peters said, The Arizona Republic reported. “The tweet posted by a junior staff member is unacceptable and we are taking the appropriate action.”

His opponent also a veteran fighter pilot Martha McSally has accused him of being anti-police, and anti second amendment, which he continues to deny despite Project Veritas’s undercover work and investigations showing his staffers talking about Kelly’s disdain for gun rights in America.

Supreme Court to review Trump bid to exclude undocumented immigrants from congressional seat formula

The Supreme Court announced Friday it will review President Trump’s effort to exclude undocumented immigrants from the official tally used to distribute U.S. House seats among the states.

Trump upended the traditional approach to the once-a-decade process in July when he ordered that undocumented immigrations be effectively subtracted from the 2020 census for the purpose of determining congressional seats and Electoral College.

Trump’s petition to the high court came after a three-judge panel of a New York-based federal court blocked his plan last month, ruling that it was an “unlawful exercise of authority” by the president.

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to fast-track a review of the lower court decision, which sided with the coalition behind the initial suit which includes New York and a group of 20 states, cities and localities. The justices set a Nov. 30 date for arguments in the case.

The September ruling from the three-judge panel of the Southern District of New York prohibits the Department of Commerce from reporting any information regarding undocumented immigrants in its census count that could be used to implement the president's directive.

The Constitution requires that congressional representation be based on a population count conducted every 10 years. Congress has assigned that task to the Commerce secretary, who faces a Dec. 31 statutory deadline to report census and reapportionment figures.

The Supreme Court last year blocked the president's effort to add a citizenship question to the census, ruling that the administration had not provided an adequate rationale.

Death toll from missile attack on Ganja rises to 13

52 people were wounded

BAKU, October 17. /TASS/. Thirteen people were killed in the missile attack on the Azerbaijani city of Ganja, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan said on Saturday.

"The bodies of 13 victims were removed from the rubble, 52 people were wounded," the ministry said, noting that search and rescue work continues.

Earleir, the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office reported twelve people killed in the missile attack on the Azerbaijani city of Ganja. "As a result of a missile attack on downtown Ganja at about 01:00 (local time, 00:00 Moscow time) on October 17, 12 people have been killed, over 40 civilians have been wounded, and serious damage has been inflicted on civil infrastructure and transport,"the message informs.

Renewed clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, with intense battles raging in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The area experienced flare-ups of violence in the summer of 2014, in April 2016 and this past July. Azerbaijan and Armenia have imposed martial law and launched mobilization efforts. Both parties to the conflict have reported casualties, among them civilians.

The conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, a disputed territory that had been part of Azerbaijan before the Soviet Union break-up, but primarily populated by ethnic Armenians, broke out in February 1988 after the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1992-1994, tensions boiled over and exploded into large-scale military action for control over the enclave and seven adjacent territories after Azerbaijan lost control of them. Talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement have been ongoing since 1992 under the OSCE Minsk Group, led by its three co-chairs - Russia, France and the United States.

Law enforcement world slams Biden's advice to shoot suspects 'in the leg'

"We shoot to stop the threat," said Lawrence O'Toole, a lieutenant colonel with the St. Louis Police Department. "You could be endangering the public by shooting and missing."

Law enforcement officials are slamming Joe Biden's suggestion that police officers should shoot violent assailants in the leg to avoid a potentially fatal altercation, with experts arguing that police are trained to do exactly the opposite of what Biden advised in order to minimize harm during violent confrontations.

In an extended exchange with a questioner during his Philadelphia town hall event with host George Stephanopolous Thursday, Biden laid out his vision for police reform, including his opinion of how police officers should utilize deadly force while on the job.

"There's a lot of things we've learned, and it takes time," he said, "but we can do this. You can ban chokeholds … but beyond that, you have to teach people how to de-escalate circumstances."

"So, instead of anybody coming at you and the first thing you do is shoot to kill, you shoot them in the leg," he offered as an example.

'Why don't we train the military to do that?'

Multiple law enforcement officials argued to Just the News that Biden had strongly misjudged the logistics of police use-of-force.

"It's a myth," Dana Schrad, the executive director of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, said of Biden's notion that leg shots are a practical alternative to current police training.

"We have a continuum of use of force policies that we follow," she said of police officers. "Officers are trained to de-escalate situations, to use the minimal force necessary, to contain a situation, and to bring it to a peaceful conclusion."

"If an officer is forced to use lethal force," she continued, "that means there's imminent danger. If there's that level of danger that would force an officer to use a firearm, he's trained to shoot to body mass."

"It takes some really special equipment and a real good marksman to disable someone by shooting them in the leg," she added.

Biden's remarks on Thursday were not the first time the politician has given controversial law enforcement advice. He made the same shoot-for-the-leg argument at a community meeting in June of this year. Several years ago, the former vice president also suggested that utilizing a double-barreled shotgun and "fir[ing] two blasts outside the house" would be enough to scare away would-be criminals.

The agreement will serve as an interim agreement and will include the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies in the respective countries.

It will be signed in Bahrain's capital Manama by senior officials from both countries, under the auspices of United States Secretary of Treasury Steve Mnuchin and White House special representative for international negotiations Avi Berkowitz. The Treasury Department said in a release that US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman will also join the US delegation.

The delegation will meet with Bahraini officials in Manama before flying to Abu Dhabi, where “the first-ever Abraham Accords Business Summit” will be held. The group will then fly back to Tel Aviv, the department said.

"The goal is to start implementing the White House peace declaration, putting more meat into it, detailing it and defining the general principles of relations between the two countries," a senior official told Walla.

The statement will serve as the framework for a series of agreements, which will be signed in various locations, according to the official cited by Walla.

Included in the declaration, which will be two pages long, will be an agreement to establish diplomatic relations and an agreement to open embassies in the respective countries.

Within the agreement, Israel and Bahrain will commit to not take hostile actions against each other and will act to prevent hostile actions by a third party. It also emphasizes that the two countries are committed to coexistence and peace education.

Prince William County ignores federal criminal warrant under new noncooperation policy

WASHINGTON – Officials at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center (PWMRADC) released an inmate Sept. 29, who was wanted for felony charges of illegal entry, despite an active criminal warrant for his arrest.

On Sept. 28, the Prince William County Police Department arrested Edras Onel Vasquez Perez, 25, an unlawfully present Honduran national, for assault on a family member. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer for Vazquez with the PWMRADC. In addition, on May 8, 2019, a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in Norfolk, Virginia, issued a criminal arrest warrant for Vasquezfor illegal reentry, a felony punishable by up to twenty years’ incarceration. However, the PWMRADC did not honor either the immigration detainer or the criminal warrant and released Vasquez into the community Sept. 29. ICE arrested Vasquez during a targeted enforcement operation in Woodbridge Oct. 7 and transferred him to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service for prosecution for illegal reentry.

“Prince William County’s new noncooperation policy ignores common sense public safety policies for the sake of politics, even to the point of ignoring a federal criminal warrant issued by a U.S. District Court,” said Matthew Munroe, acting field office director for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Washington. “ICE officers are sworn federal law enforcement officers who enforce the laws enacted by Congress. When local jurisdictions choose to treat a federal law enforcement agency differently, ignoring lawful detainers and warrants, it puts the public at risk, plain and simple.”

Vasquez arrived as an unaccompanied minor in 2012 and was convicted of assault in Montgomery County, Maryland, and sentenced to 18 months incarceration in October 2016. An immigration judge ordered him removed to Honduras Jan. 11, 2017, and ICE removed him to his home country March 31, 2017.

The new policy bars the Prince William County Jail from cooperating with ICE when officers lodge immigration detainers for individuals in local custody who are in violation of immigration law. Per the policy, the jail can only notify ICE of an impending release for individuals booked in on felony charges. If an individual is charged with a misdemeanor, ICE will not be notified, regardless of whether they have a serious criminal history. Additionally, individuals that have been arrested or convicted for criminal offenses abroad or those that may be wanted by foreign law enforcement authorities could be released back into the community as this information may not be visible to local law enforcement in the U.S.

Prince Willian County previously worked closely with ICE through the 287(g) program. The program allows specially trained jail employees to serve immigration detainers to individuals who have been booked into the jail on local charges if they have established probable cause that they are in violation of immigration law. This allowed the safe transfer of individuals into ICE custody where they could be enrolled in immigration proceedings.

CDC: Over 75,000 overdose deaths estimated by end of 2020

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says it expects the death toll from drug overdoses to hit 75,500 by the end of 2020, according to alarming preliminary estimates from the public health institute.

Coverage of the opioid crisis has fallen to the wayside this year as the nation and the rest of the world contend with the largest pandemic in a century.

Before the novel coronavirus arrived on the scene, the opioid crisis was already deadly and far-reaching in scope. Most deadly is how the pandemic has exacerbated drug abuse.

Since the start of the COVID-19 lockdowns, drug use has shot through the roof—both for opioids and drugs like cannabis. This is mostly because the millions of Americans who have been cooped up in their homes often feeling depressed, anxious, stressed, lonely, and bored—factors that increase a person’s likelihood of using drugs.

However, it is worth noting that “party drug” usage has fallen significantly this year, according to a more internationally focused July survey from The Economist, with “party drugs” here referring to ecstasy, cocaine, and ketamine. Cannabis, however, has seen the biggest uptick in usage, the same study found.

The CDC report published on Wednesday found that, in the first three months of this year, there were 19,416 drug-overdose deaths, a 10% spike from the same period in 2019, which saw 16,682 deaths. Between February and March alone, there was a 10,000-person death increase.

Demographically, the group most impacted was white males who fall between the ages of 25 and 64, which is not a significant change from pre-pandemic trends.

What drives home the true scale of this crisis, however, is that only 13 U.S. states have reported a decrease in overdose deaths this year so far, the report said.

These results are preliminary and more data is expected to be published about 2020, likely sometime after the start of 2021.
