Valerie Jarrett signs book deal

Valerie Jarrett, former President Barack Obama’s top adviser during both his terms, has settled a book deal with Viking. Her book, as yet untitled, will be a medley of personal history and civic advice, narrating her path since childhood.

“From her work on ensuring equity for women and girls, protecting civil rights, reforming our criminal justice system and protecting working families, Jarrett will share lessons about making change and her optimistic vision for what the future holds,” Viking said in its announcement, according to The Associated Press. “[It is] a story of history, biography, politics and activism — and will provide ideas about leadership and being a good citizen in the 21st century.”

Jarrett chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls during Obama’s presidency, and she worked as a lawyer, businesswoman and civic leader prior to joining the 44th administration.

“I don’t want to just tell my story,” Jarrett said in a statement. “I want to share the experiences, life lessons and values that have shaped who I am and my ideas for the future.”

Her book’s release is scheduled for 2019. The financial terms were not disclosed.
