…Think of a great planetary disorder, when Saturn was displaced by Jupiter. Great arcs of plasma scarring the Earth and shaping it. Seems 'out there' but is well within the realm of possibility. The symbolism is the recorded sky events, along with an astronomical interpretation of myth, legends, 'sacred' texts, etc.
