It's truly terrifying when you catch them doing it, call them out on it and they just get angrier. In their minds, they're still the rebellious teenagers of the 60s/70s fighting "The Man" when in reality they became "The Man" a good 20-30 years ago and now endorse a level of corruption and totalitarianism that's almost comical. Everything Trump =BAD, everything anti-Trump =GOOD. No nuance, you cannot convince them otherwise. They're so demoralized and beaten down that they'll accept any level of intrusive government overreach as long as a familiar face with a psychopathic smile is telling them it's for their own good.
These aren't the people who raised me, or who I knew growing up. They've either become something else entirely or they're showing who've they've been this entire time. Either way, they're sick.
