An imaged hard drive would have the OS and supporting files and should be easy to differentiate from an Apple file mirror, I'd think. Also think the shop owner would most likely image the whole drive as the 1st step in a repair.
Question is, who has the physical drive? If Wray has it, you can just shut the FBI down now. Why the fuck do you need to investigate Russian interference if the physical hard drive with emails verified by recipients is sitting in your safe?
I agree with Bannon here. Haul Wray's ass into the oval office, ask him if he's had the physical drive for a year, then fire him on the spot if he says yes. Take the cost for the impeachment out of his pension, too, because fuck you.
