They're essentially born into a Vatican style system that is also wrapped up in their geneology, so if they want to reject any part of it they have to be shunned by their communities, and the local rabbis tend to become de facto union bosses.
Any system like that is just going to devolve into self-dealing and crime at the top levels over time. So it's really the rabbinic leadership structure developed by the pharisees that evolved after the destruction of the second temple that's the issue.
All of Orthodox Judaism is overseen by two Rabbis in Israel who take truns ruling; one Sephardic, the other Ashkenazi. Currently the Ashkenazi guy seems pretty decent; traditional but very oriented towards loving your neighbor under all circumstances.
The Sephardic one is kind of a salty, weird old man, and reminds me a lot of Pope Francis. Looks like he's going through the motions.
So in conclusion, the history of the Jewish people has funneled them into a ritual structure that has become wrapped up in the state, and subsequently their intelligence agencies, and it's created a unique problem where if you question the actions of their deep state you get labeled anti-semitic.
