The next full moon is a blue moon, and occurs on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 9:49 a.m. EDT (14:49 UTC), but the moon will appear full the night before and after its peak to the casual stargazer. October's first full moon occured on Oct. 1 and was the Harvest Moon, though it has many other nicknames by different cultures.
