The thing with complicated maths is that you can cheat, by having cryptographic formulas with more than one possible solution, or even solutions which are calculable with linear time if you happen know a secret about the formula. Oh wait this is how asymmetric cryptography works. People spend tons of money calculating the numbers, when you can simply churn them out as fast as you want.
I'm not sold on crypto not being fiat, simply because math exactly like that exists, and in the real life, the clowns have used such a back door formula that invalidated a commonly used crypto.
