It seems to me like you definitely received a communication. What other people think doesn't mater because you are the one that had the experience.

If God sent you the message it was because you needed to hear it. And if it was God then the part about being targeted really wouldn't apply, unless you consider that you were targeted by God.
The phrase that the devil is the God of this world is and old concept that has been studied quite extensively. Perhaps there is some merit of those words for you to consider.
