Susan G. Komen, an organization that’s raised millions of dollars for breast cancer research and treatment through its annual Race for the Cure events, is closing all of its regional affiliates, including one based in Pittsburgh.
The nonprofit will centralize operations at its national headquarters in Dallas as part of a plan to focus on direct patient advocacy and research.
Pittsburgh’s operation became affiliated with the national group in 2005, but the Race for the Cure has been held annually in Schenley Park since 1993.
Kathy Purcell, chief executive of Komen Greater Pennsylvania, said she did not have information about whether the local race would continue.
