Ms Lynch’s concerns are not new; parents around the world have been spooked by the app sparking claims it steals children’s names, details of where they go to school, takes secret pictures of their faces and tells parents to be aware of a possible paedophile ring.

Talking Angela — part of a wider series of apps called Talking Tom and Friends which have been downloaded more than 1.5 billion times since 2010 by adults and kids — encourages users to look into their device’s camera and make specific gestures so she can copy them.
