Hunter indicted before the debate?
That's a bridge too far.
All of the hard evidence points to Hunter. There is certainly evidence against Joe, but he wouldn't be indicted before Hunter.
Unless Hunter has flipped….
It's a fantastic plot twist, and very much plausible.
But I don't think Joe getting indicted [by Trump's government] hours before the final Presidential debate is the optics we are going for. (Too easy to dispel as partisan and authoritarian, given the timing.)
I would also think they would cancel the debate, and blame Trump's DOJ.
But Hunter being indicted is a very different bird. Joe would still be expected to debate, and it would be impossible to ignore the breaking news topic.
It would be a much more damning spectre looming in the background, I think.
