NYC joining Portland, Seattle to sue Trump admin over defunding

for 'anarchist jurisdictions'

President Trump called for a review of all federal funds provided to the 3 cities

By Evie Fordham | Fox News

New York City is joining Seattle and Portland, Ore., to file a complaint against the Trump administration in a Seattle court on Thursday over the administration labeling them as "jurisdictions that permit anarchy," which could affect the cities' federal funding.

"It’s morally wrong, it’s legally unacceptable, it’s unconstitutional and we’re going to fight it," New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, said at a press conference on Thursday. "I said weeks ago if the Trump administration persisted in trying to illegally take away funding from New York City we would take them to court, and we will beat them in court."

"We did see them taking more and more moves that might have had an impact on funding, and that was the appropriate trigger for legal action," de Blasio added.

New York City's chief lawyer, Jim Johnson, who also spoke at the press conference, said that the administration has "actually taken this anarchist designation and started to include it in applications for federal grants."

In September, the Department of Justice identified New York City, Portland and Seattle as "local governments that are permitting anarchy, violence, and destruction in American cities" after rioting in some areas of the country.

"When state and local leaders impede their own law enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest," Attorney General Bill Barr said in a statement.

“We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance," Barr's statement continued. "It is my hope that the cities identified by the Department of Justice today will reverse course and become serious about performing the basic function of government and start protecting their own citizens."

Patreon is banning QAnon conspiracy theorists, joining a growing group

of tech companies taking action against the movement

Rachel E. Greenspan 42 minutes ago

Patreon, the membership platform where fans can support creators through subscriptions, announced Thursday that the QAnon conspiracy theory would be banned.

A Media Matters for America reporter recently found that 14 QAnon-related influencers were using Patreon to make money.

As of Thursday, soon after the company's blog post, some of those creators were still available on Patreon.

Patreon is the latest tech company to take action on the QAnon conspiracy theory, announcing in a blog post Thursday morning that creators promoting the movement would be banned from the platform.

Patreon, a membership platform that lets fans support creators and celebrities financially through subscriptions, previously hosted 14 QAnon influencers on the platform, according to a recent report from the progressive media watchdog Media Matters for America (MMFA).

QAnon, the baseless far-right conspiracy theory that alleges President Donald Trump is fighting a deep-state cabal of human traffickers, has recently been banned or limited by Facebook, YouTube, Etsy, Spotify, Triller, and several other platforms.

While many QAnon followers base their beliefs on "Q drops" from an anonymous "Q" figure on the messageboard 8kun, the movement is now spread by QAnon influencers who analyze and explain the "Q drops" for their followers.

Patreon creators who used the platform to earn money included some of the movement's top influencers, MMFA found, including Patriots Soapbox, Sean Morgan, Praying Medic, and InTheMatrixxx, all of which were already banned from YouTube.

As of Thursday morning, soon after the company published its blog post, those four creators were still up and running on Patreon. Those creators have QAnon references in their profiles.

Patreon said that creators who have been identified by Patreon's Policy and Trust and Safety teams as QAnon-specific will be removed, but those "who have propagated some QAnon content, but are not dedicated to spreading QAnon disinformation, will have the opportunity to bring their campaigns into compliance with our updated guidelines."

The company cited other platforms' QAnon moderation plans as part of their decision.

"While Patreon does not propagate this content directly, there are a small number of creators on the platform who have supported the QAnon conspiracy theory with their work. Because of this, and the fact that we have seen a number of other online platforms become overrun with pages and groups actively focused around QAnon disinformation, we are taking action," the platform said.

QAnon believers hunting for child kidnappers should start at

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

It was the perfect political dog whistle — at a frequency that bypassed mainstream journalists but was picked up loud and clear by the millions of internet swamp creatures who dwell in a land of online make-believe called QAnon. With President Trump looking to rally his shrinking base in a presidential election that’s already underway, his compliant acting Homeland Security chief Chad Wolf made a naked appeal to the folks who’ve hijacked the #SaveTheChildren hashtag.

The announcement of a new Center for Countering Human Trafficking, under the banner of Wolf’s Department of Homeland Security, was proclaimed by this week by the DHS chief as a way to integrate federal agencies that deal with different aspects of child trafficking under one roof. And who knows?…under professional and not-politicized management, such an effort could bring some progress against a problem that experts say is a real one if often badly misunderstood, especially by the growing online hordes getting roped by QAnon.

But make no mistake, Wolf’s announcement was a thinly veiled win for QAnon as the conspiracy theory seeks to go mainstream and win new converts, especially among suburban women up for grabs in the presidential election. The ugly truth is that QAnon’s core followers believe there’s a Satanic cult among Democratic Party elites and Hollywood that’s protected by a “deep state” cabal and which engages in rampant pedophilia (at minimum) and maybe rituals where small children are killed by monsters who then drink their blood.

Dimwitted Donald Trump Jr. gave up the game this week when he took to Twitter to complain about the lack of media coverage over DHS’s child-trafficking push, charging the media is “too busy running cover for Hollywood,” the bête noire of the QAnoners. Indeed, believers in the bizarre conspiracy theory got a huge boost from the president himself when he refused to criticize QAnon as his recent NBC News town hall in Miami, first claiming he didn’t know anything about it but then adding he knows they’re “very much against pedophilia” — which true believers took as a signal boost just like his prior refusal to condemn the violent Proud Boys.

“Human traffickers prey on the most vulnerable citizens and people,” the president insisted back in January, calling them “vicious” and “violent.” OK. So I don’t know if Team Trump’s new child-trafficking center will have a hot line, but if it does I’d love to be the very first caller. That way I could report the “vicious” plot to traffic innocent young children for political gain that was hatched at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.
