I know that "cult expert" crowd well. I mean, intimately well. Former cult victim here. Their problem is, like any organization involving humans, they are prone to corruption. Good intentions, some genuine facts and truth, but obviously limited in the ability to see a bigger picture. It's a fine line. I saw it way back when, having to deal with the politics of that "element." They become a "spokesman" of sorts, and it goes to their heads. No one challenges them, so onward they sail with blinders.

he was a Moonie, of all things. Reverend Moon, who convinced his followers he was god incarnate/true messiah. Standard SOP for a cult. Tricky part was Moon was staunchly conservative, very anti-communist. He stated the Washington Times as both a business, and way to infiltrate American politics. Many Repubs were swept into supporting his efforts and business. Likely bribed/comp'd from donations. Meanwhile, souls got sucked down the drain. Typical modern day religious cult.
