Middlebury College Exempted BLM Protest From Coronavirus Rules After Punishing Others

“Four days before the college rolled out the red carpet for an event that explicitly violated its own policies, Middlebury announced that 22 students had violated its COVID-19 policies.”

We’ve seen this happen over and over again, and not just on college campuses. Everyone just looks the other way on social distancing rules when Black Lives Matter decides to protest.

Vermont’s Middlebury College facilitated a 500-person student rally that included “some faculty and community members,” organized a day after the Breonna Taylor verdict in Louisville, The Middlebury Campus reports.

Under its Phase 2 guidelines that started in mid-September, Middlebury banned gatherings of more than 10 people, “indoors or outdoors, on or off campus.” This meant students could get in trouble for even small gatherings outside Middlebury’s control if they were reported.

Penn prof defends Jeffrey Toobin’s Zoom mishap

University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education professor Jonathan Zimmerman argued that New Yorker columnist and CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin’s accidental self-exposure during a work video conference call was a “pseudo-scandal” rooted in Americans’ “collective unease with masturbation.”

Toobin was suspended from the New Yorker after he left his camera on while engaging in an act of self-pleasure during a Zoom meeting with colleagues. He said he believed that he had turned off his camera.

“We Americans love to talk — and talk, and talk — about sex,” noted Zimmerman while discussing the incident in the New York Daily News. “But there’s one topic that remains taboo, and Toobin is paying the price for it.”

Zimmerman argued that masturbation embodies the fears that arose as a result of the Enlightenment idea of the “autonomous individual, endowed with natural rights” — namely, the propensity for free individuals to “descend into corruption and vice.”
