Anons - I’m the (you) in the Q Padawan post and something just hit me. When I posted “Q, you magnificent bastard.”, at the time it had no meaning other than just a tip-of-the-hat to Q on calling yesterday’s boom. I’ve seen Patton a few times, and always just thought it was a badass phrase. Then I started thinking…why did Q single that one post out?
Then I remembered when Patton said it. He was referring to Rommel, and the full quote was “Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book.” The scene was a tank battlefield, Patton was engaged in combat with the enemy (Rommel’s forces). Rommel was a brilliant strategic adversary, but he made a mistake…he wrote a book and Patton had already read it.
We know Q likes movies and movie analogies (White Squall, Hunt for Red October, Crimson Tide), so I guess my post just spoke to Q…but it seems like this was also a reference to the fact the white hats read their book.
Q post #3596: “What advantages might exist when you know the other sides playbook? Enjoy the show! Q”
