A 23-year-old Forestville woman who modeled professionally was one of six people killed when a single-engine plane crashed Monday night on a golf course in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Mariah Coogan was part of a big, tight-knit family in Sonoma County, and relatives on Wednesday recalled her as a passionate, fun-loving person who doted on her younger siblings and loved animals, including the horses she rode competitively.
“Her middle name was Sunshine, and that was perfect because she just brought light into every room,” said her mother, Stacey Coogan.
“She was just a person who took advantage of every opportunity,” said Kelly Coogan, Mariah’s aunt. “She didn’t spare a minute. That’s one thing we keep telling ourselves after this.”
Growing up in Sonoma County fostered an early love of animals in Mariah Coogan. She had two dogs, raised baby lambs when she was younger and became a competitive horseback rider.
“She was probably on her way to going to the Rolex (horse show), which is really the highest level,” her mother said. “It was really her great passion. No one could compete with her horses.”
