Eurosystem lays out retail digital payment strategy

The Eurosystem is pursuing a new strategy to respond to the rapid digitalisation of the eurozone’s payments market, partly in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fabio Panetta, of the European Central Bank’s executive board, said the strategy would increase the provision of cash and instant payments. It would also include new supervisory methods and work on the ‘digital euro’, he said at a conference organised by the ECB today (October 22). The Eurosystem brings together the ECB and the eurozone

Swiss National Bank opposes ban on ‘war material’ assets

The Swiss National Bank is opposed to a public initiative that would stop it holding securities issued by manufacturers of “war material”, it said on October 22.

The initiative will be put to a national vote on November 29 in Switzerland. It proposes banning the SNB from holding securities issued by companies that derive more than 5% of their annual turnover from producing what the initiative called “war material”.

The ban would also apply to the old-age and survivors’ insurance scheme

BREAKING: Black Prison Rate Under President Trump Is Lowest In 31 Years…Down 24% For Hispanics

Last night, President Trump stood on the debate stage and proudly proclaimed that he’s the least racist person in the room. Unfortunately, for Democrats and their allies in the media who’ve been trying to paint him as a racist since he became the GOP presidential candidate in 2016, Trump’s actions speak louder than their false accusations.

The Washington Examiner reports – America’s imprisonment rate has dropped to its lowest level since 1995, led by a dive in the percentage of blacks and Hispanics sent to jail during the Trump administration, according to a new Justice Department tally.

For minorities, the focus of President Trump’s First Step Act prison and criminal reform plan, the rate is the lowest in years.

For blacks, the imprisonment rate in state and federal prisons is the lowest in 31 years, and for Hispanics, it is down 24%.

“Across the decade from 2009 to 2019, the imprisonment rate fell 29% among black residents, 24% among Hispanic residents, and 12% among white residents. In 2019, the imprisonment rate of black residents was the lowest it has been in 30 years, since 1989,” said the report.

.More than 1 million absentee ballots already cast in Wisconsin

Voters in Wisconsin have already cast more than 1 million absentee ballots, more than a week out from Election Day.

The state has seen 1.021 million ballots cast already, 34% of the total voter turnout in the state during the 2016 presidential election.

Tallies indicate that some areas are voting mail-in in record numbers, with some places seeing more than 50% and 60% of the last presidential race's tally. Milwaukee and Madison are reportedly largely responsible for the high voter tally.

More than 80,000 Wisconsin residents had cast their ballots in person just a day after early voting started on Tuesday.
