If done after the election, then the election will go to the new House of Representatives for President based on a majority of state delegations. GOP currently holds a slim lead of 26 - 24, and that could very well be lost. Senate would decide VP, which could also be lost. That seems way too risky. Why not just drop it ahead and guarantee a victory on Election Day?
