there was a time most believed a release like these would cause global panic and market crashes,

it is false, you can release it all down to aliens or atlantis or vampires and whatever other shocking thing you've got classified and the public would accept it and move on with their daily lives to a degree that would still shock you..

it isnt that they are desensitized (though its a factor)

it is rather that humans are capable of withstanding and normalizing off the cuff, far more then they give each other credit for..
